Sasaki Emi

Certainly, that character does exist in the game.

[Sasaki Emi] was a supporting character that appears in [Breaking the Chain of Sadness].

That’s right, she did not appear as a heroine but as a supporting character.

I didn’t expect to meet such a low-profile sub-character here.

Sasaki Emi in the game was depicted as a short girl sporting a twin-tail who has a baby face and a mole under her left eye.

Since she’s a sub-character, there was almost no illustration that depicted her appearance aside from her character portraits.

For her characteristic, the word [Dependant] would describe her best.

That being said, it was not Juumonji Takeru the protagonist that she was [dependant] on but Akechi Hideyori instead.

[[I and Hideyori-kun are tied with a red string of fate you know]].

Such was her character’s introductory line on the game’s official site.

Hideyori’s girlfriend who appeared in the first entry of [Breaking the Chain of Sadness].

That description was attached to her in the common route of the scammy free trial version of the game where any of its depressing elements were yet to be introduced.

Her introductory line came from when Hideyori allegedly helped her out when she was hit on by some random playboys on the street and that incident deceptively gave Hideyori the impression of [A friend character who may appear frivolous at first but is actually a capable man with a strong sense of justice]. In other words, the whole thing was there to mislead the players.

Moreover, the Devs even continued with that lie on the official site of the first game if I remember correctly.

That’s why they were flamed so bad after the full game was actually released…….

Th, this girl, she’s straight up the game’s Hideyori acquaintance isn’t she?

I think it was said in her setting that her house was right next to Hideyori’s though…….

The family that just moved in next door my aunt told me about this morning huh!

The game’s narrative is progressing.

The world is cornering me as though it was trying to make fun of my determination to avoid getting myself involved with the storyline.

“Nice to meet you, Hideyori-kun.”

“Y, yeah…….”

Moreover, since it’s her, this is certainly not a kind of romantic development either.

Here’s the line that Hideyori himself said to the protagonist. [[There’s no way that I would actually be in love with that idiot right? Her chest was practically non-existent and it’s not like she’s good-looking after all. I just wanted myself a convenient pawn so I used [Dominating Decree] on her and made her play as my girlfriend. That’s all.]]

Indeed, you can not call Emi a beautiful girl. However, since she’s a cute younger girl type of character, his words still sounded terribly cruel.

After all, if you take out her role as Hideyori’s girlfriend, she would be doing just fine as a heroine character.

In the most hated characters poll of the entire [Breaking the Chain of Sadness] series, she was placed 3rd. (With the 1st and 2nd places being me and the protagonist who have garnered an overwhelming amount of votes.)

Due to her part in the heroine harassment and her excessive dependence on Hideyori from the second work on, she was no longer regarded as a character that you should sympathize with but a broken girl instead.

I did not dislike her character but at the same time, my thoughts about her character can be summed into only [Man, she really can’t find happiness huh].

“It was amazing you know, this is my first time seeing a Gift in person.”

“…..glad you like it.”

Being told that by someone whose life was ruined by that very same Gift, I felt nothing but discomfort.

Her character in the game was that pitiful after all.

She’s a character that the Devs did not treat with any shred of love, in another word, a victim.

“This has to be a secret between us alright, Emi. You can’t tell anyone about my Gift. Not to your dad, your mom, not your friends either okay.”

“Un! It will be my and Hideyori-kun’s secret!”

If it’s like this then she probably won’t tell anyone.

There’s no need for me to use my Gift on her.

Even I also want to place my trust in someone else after all.

“You know pinky-promise right? Let’s do that.”

“……sure.”

“Pinky pinky, swallow a thousand needles if you lie. Pinky promise.”

Emi was the one who sang the pinky promise song while I silently joined my pinky with hers.

If she only let it slip that I can use a Gift then I won’t consider the promise broken either.

Still, children love these pinky promises just like how they did in my previous life huh.

“I will treasure the coin okay.”

“Do whatever you want with it.”

No matter how much she treasures it, its real worth is only 10 yen.

If she put it in her wallet then she might even accidentally spend it on some juices after all.

“Well, let’s go home.”

“Un!”

Emi and I left the playground and started walking home.

“I actually moved here today you know.”

“As I thought, the house next door huh……”

“Eh? Hideyori-kun is my neighbor!? I will be in your care okay!”

“Y, Yeah……”

Actually, I don’t really want to get involved with Emi.

I have no intention of going out of my way to actively get involved with the game’s narrative.

After all, my only wish is to just slip out from the stage of [Breaking the Chain of Sadness.]

“You really live next door!”

As though she’s happy about something, Emi seems to be in high spirits.

She sure looked happy even though both of us might be dead in just 10 years from now.

“Ara, Emi!”

“Ah, Okaa-san!”

When we arrived near our houses, Emi’s mom walked toward us. Perhaps she was about to go pick up Emi.

“I was just finished setting things up so I was about to pick you up at the playground, good timing.”

“Un!”

I see, so that’s why Emi was at the playground huh.

Conversely, maybe it might have been better for me if I stayed in my room instead of going to the playground today huh.

“Who’s your friend?”

“This is Hideyori-kun! He’s our neighbor!”

“Ara? That means you are with the Akechis?”

“Yes, nice to meet you.”

“How polite. Thank you for playing with Emi today.”

“It’s nothing, I have fun as well.”

“Let’s play together again okay, Hideyori-kun!”

“S, Sure.”

To be honest, knowing that she’s a character from the game made me want to avoid being around her as much as possible though.

“It seems that Emi also took a liking to you, Akechi-kun. Please take good care of my daughter from now on too okay.”

With a bow, I excused myself and parted ways with the Sasaki family.

If the daughter suffers a terrible fate, then it means that her mother will suffer as well……

I already know how it ends for Emi and her family.

After all, the cause of all their suffering was me………..
