I’ve Been Exiled, But I’m Alive and Well - Chapter 109

On the third day after my fever, Giselle finally gave me permission to get out of bed.

When I returned to my room after taking a bath, Giselle was waiting upon me as a matter of course, and I gave up trying to warn her as she wouldn’t listen no matter what I said.

“Miss Elle, there’s something I’d like to talk to you about.”

“What is it?”

“I have confirmed with the gatekeepers that Duke and his party left Arburn.”

“I see…”

Did they get the message that I wasn't returning?

No, from the look of Gislain, it seems that he had no intention of giving up on me. Perhaps there's a reason why they need to hurry back to the Ansanse Kingdom.

It's no wonder, since they are not in a position to leave the country as they please.

“Giselle, I’m going to thank Jed.”

“I will go, too.”

“That’s fine, but you cannot snarl at him.”

When I cautioned her, Giselle smiled bitterly and replied, "I would never snarl at the person who helped me save you, Miss Elle.”

Apparently, she could tell that he was not a bad person.

I left the room and headed to the next room and knocked on the door.

“Sorry for making you wait. Come inside.”

I shouldn't be alone with him, but Giselle was there now.

"I'm sorry. I'm going to clean up now, so sit down in that chair.”

"Okay."

I did as I was told and sat down in the chair to wait for the cleanup to be finished.

In the meantime, I was thinking about the letter that Jed was holding. The seal was made of bright red sealing wax. The emblem on it was a lion clad in flames. The person holding such seal was a member of the Imperial Family of the Fall Empire.

Why would Jed receive a letter from the Empire, and from the Imperial Family at that?

I couldn’t figure it out. It's possible that it was sent to him by a mistake. There are a number of people who use similar wax seals to fool others in the name of the royalty and nobility. However, I was only able to see it for a moment, and there was no way to confirm it.

If he was related to the royal family, he wouldn't be able to travel so carefree, though.

"Thanks for waiting. So what can I do for you?"

"I came to thank you for all your help."

Jed has always helped me when I've been in trouble, even though I have been so rude to him.

“Don't worry about it, I just helped you when you were in trouble, it’s nothing special.”

“Please let me thank you in some way.”

There was only so much I could do, but let me do something.

Jed put his hand on his chin and made a thoughtful gesture, "There is one thing I would like to ask you of.”

"I want to go out with you alone, Elle…”

He said with a hint of embarrassment, but honestly, I wanted to reply, "Is that all?"

I don't think it would be fun to go out with me, but if Jed wants this to return the favor, I'll do it.

I can't help but notice that Giselle, sitting next to me, had a smile on her face filled with anger, but we're just going to walk around the town. It's nothing to be that angry about.

“Sure.”

“Really?”

“Yeah, can we do it tomorrow?”

“No problem, I will be looking forward to it.”

Jed smiled happily, and I returned his words, "I will be also looking forward to it.” Giselle, who was sitting next to me, stared at me with a dumbfounded gaze.
