TL: Moonlit

Lu Tianjin still hasn’t figured out what these people are up to. They had been heading east all along, but now they stopped here, hidden in the woods. Lu Tianjin couldn’t understand their intentions.

Lu Tianjin was forcefully brought in front of Yin Cheng and Xu Shengfei, two individuals similarly dressed in black robes that concealed their faces. At first glance, they looked like a family.

Yin Cheng examined the black-robed person in front of him with a dark expression, then glanced at Xu Shengfei, who was slightly shorter but also dressed in a black robe.

“Your people?” His tone carried a hint of interest.

Xu Shengfei shook her head, and one of the people beside her answered on her behalf, “They are not wearing the same black robes as the ‘Corpsemother.'”

It was a sign of respect for the “Corpsemother.”

Yin Cheng coldly said, “Take off your hood.”

Just as the person about to do so was about to act, a harsh and unpleasant voice came from beneath the black robe. “We are of the same kind, why should we fight amongst ourselves?”

The harshness of this voice rivaled that of Xu Shengfei.

The people beside Xu Shengfei were all taken aback, looking at the black-robed figure with suspicion.

Yin Cheng sneered, “Playing tricks! Take off your hood!”

Then everyone said, “…”

“Damn!”

“What the hell is this?!”

The people nearby were frightened and began to scream, even the ones who had brought Lu Tianjin here hurriedly backed away, terrified by its terrifying appearance. Even Yin Cheng himself took a few steps back in fear.

This was too ugly, even scarier than zombies.

Zombies were commonplace, and humans had already adapted to their appearance. But what on earth was this grotesque, withered creature?

Even uglier than zombies, Lu Tianjin thought. Wasn’t he a handsome guy back in the day?

Yin Cheng frowned deeply, only now realizing that the heavy stench was emanating from this creature right in front of him.

After the apocalypse, a putrid smell lingered in the air year-round. The difference was in its intensity. Outside the metropolis, there were more zombies, and the stench in the air was heavier than inside the metropolis. Moreover, they had someone who could control the zombies constantly moving around them. With the mixture of these smells, they had become careless.

Yin Cheng’s preliminary judgment was that it was a zombie, but it could speak!

Yin Cheng asked, “What exactly are you?”

Within a few steps of Lu Tianjin, there was no one else. It put its hood back on and replied, “I am an Undead.”

A tall and thin youth standing beside Xu Shengfei sneered, “We ‘Undead’ don’t have someone like you.”

Lu Tianjin said, “Sorry, I received unfavorable genes and accidentally mutated.” The group of Undead fell silent.

He felt like he was cursing at someone.

Xu Shengfei, with her hoarse and unpleasant voice, said, “You are not an Undead.”

Lu Tianjin looked at Xu Shengfei, who was also enveloped in a black robe. “Because you can’t control me, you think I’m not an Undead?”

Xu Shengfei didn’t respond.

Lu Tianjin shrugged. “I’ve already said it, I mutated.”

The tall and thin youth, Yu Lai, asked, “Regardless of whether you are an Undead or not, why were you following us?”

Lu Tianjin paused for a moment and came up with a very reasonable explanation. “Lurking and hunting for opportunities.”

Yin Cheng furrowed his brow. “Are you eating humans?”

Lu Tianjin replied, “Don’t Undead eat humans?”

Of course, the Undead ate humans. They relied on consuming humans to increase their strength. If they could consume superhumans and obtain sufficient energy, they would become even stronger.

Yin Chengrui: “You don’t look like an Undead. You seem more like a zombie.”

Conscious zombies, a specialty of Ling City.

A woman with short hair, wearing a vest and carrying a sniper rifle on her back, leaned against the car with her arms crossed. Her gaze was cold, not looking at anyone, yet she seemed to have control over everyone’s actions.

Suddenly, she stood up and walked over to Yin Cheng, whispering something in his ear.

Yin Cheng’s face didn’t show any change, but his fingers clenched tightly. He turned and got into his military vehicle, and his team of superhumans followed suit. The door slammed shut.

Yin Cheng’s expression was particularly grim. “What level? Can you tell?”

The woman with short hair leaned against the car wall, her expression indifferent. “Just a probe of psychic power, what can you tell from that?”

Xiang Xiachen, Tao Shuang, and Ai Qing felt somewhat unwilling. They had already planned everything to this point. Were they really going to give up?

Ai Qing said, “Lin Wenjie, don’t you have a counter-espionage psychic?”

Lin Wenjie gave him a cold glance. How could she not have detected it? As soon as she noticed someone probing with psychic power from the other side, she immediately launched a counter-espionage probe. Unfortunately, the person reacted quickly and immediately severed the psychic connection, making it impossible for her to trace it.

Wen Qingling’s psychic power had been following Lu Tianjin. When he was caught, Wen Qingling was just enjoying the show and casually checked the number of people on the scene. Then, it was discovered by a hidden psychic superhuman.

That short-haired woman who looked like a man wanted to use psychic power to counter-espionage against him. How could Wen Qingling give her a chance? Was she questioning Wen Qingling’s business abilities?

It was impossible to find out what couldn’t be found out. Otherwise, Wen Qingling wouldn’t know where to put his old face. He didn’t want to tip his hand… or maybe he already did?

Wen Qingling pondered. What were the chances of abandoning the military vehicle and rushing over on the backs of two large zombies?

He estimated that he would probably throw up. It was too stinky.

Forget it, it was better to stay comfortably in the car.

Lin Wenjie said, “He’s probably just a naive youngster, probing so openly without any attempt at concealment.”

The naive youngster, who had just used a strand of psychic power to attach to a small piece of grass by the side of the car, Wen Qingling, “…”

Wen Qingling felt that he was already a dead man.

Yin Cheng coldly looked at her. “Be cautious without making any big mistakes unless you can determine the identity of the probe.”

Lin Wenjie smirked. “So, are you going to give up on the plan you’ve had for so long just because of this? Don’t forget the sacrifices made by the First District to lure the Corpsemother to Frostfall City.”

Lin Wenjie confidently said, “With me here, you don’t have to worry.”

Among the psychic superhumans in Central Mega City, Lin Wenjie was already at the ceiling level. She had the highest rank, which was why she was sent by Yin Cheng to assist him in this operation.

Yin Cheng wasn’t as optimistic as Lin Wenjie. He couldn’t ignore even the slightest bit of uncertainty. Despite Lin Wenjie stacking her energy crystal hand to B-rank, making her one of the strongest psychic superhumans among the group in Central Mega City, nothing was absolute. Yin Cheng had been through so much, and if he wasn’t cautious in every step, he wouldn’t have survived until now.

Seeing that Yin Cheng was hesitating, Lin Wenjie sneered, “If I told you that Xiao Hen is in that vehicle, what would you do?”

Hmm? Xiao Hen? Why would Xiao Hen leave Mega City and come here?

The tenacious “Little Grass Student” rolled up the grass into the shape of a horn and stuck it on the car door, openly eavesdropping.

Yin Cheng looked at Lin Wenjie fiercely, his expression distorted. “Is it really Xiao Hen? Are you sure you saw correctly?!”

Lin Wenjie coldly replied, “Don’t doubt my abilities.”

Yin Cheng cursed and immediately gave the order, “Fall back to the third line. Leave the second line to the Undead!”

Lin Wenjie and the team were all astonished. They had thought that when Yin Cheng heard Xiao Hen’s name, he would charge forward without hesitation, determined to personally kill Xiao Hen. Why was reality different from what they had imagined?

Lin Wenjie said in a deep voice, “Xiao Jiang was heavily injured, Xue Feng is on the verge of death. The front car only has Xiao Hen and a small soldier. If you’re afraid, you can leave first. I want to personally kill Xiao Hen!”

Yin Cheng angrily replied, “This is an order!”

Xiang Xichen interjected, “Colonel, this is a rare opportunity…”

Yin Cheng glared at him fiercely, “When did Xiao Hen return? Are the spies in the Third District blind?!”

The spies felt wronged too because Xiao Hen hadn’t returned to the Third District at all. Even if they weren’t blind, it wouldn’t have mattered.

Lin Wenjie sneered, “I really didn’t expect that you would be so scared by just a Xiao Hen…”

“Lin Wenjie!” Yin Cheng glared at her menacingly. “I’ll say it again, fall back to the third line!”

Xu Shengfei and the others, after seeing Yin Cheng and his team get into the car, kept their eyes on that vehicle. They all knew that there was a powerful psychic ability user by Yin Cheng’s side, so they had to be extra cautious in everything they did, lest they give away any clues.

Yin Cheng wanted to lead his people back to the third line and leave this side to the Undead. Xu Shengfei had no objections. They had already agreed that Xu Shengfei would be the blade in Yin Cheng’s hand, and the First District wouldn’t step into the spotlight until the matter was resolved.

Wen Qingling, who had been passive all this time, how could he let them leave? But the distance was a bit far, and the power of his wood-type ability might weaken. Wen Qingling had no choice but to use delaying tactics. “Woman, don’t leave. I want to battle with you!”

The voice appeared directly in Lin Wenjie’s ear, causing her to sit up straight, her hand already on the sniper rifle. “Who?!”

Everyone inside the military vehicle looked at her, and Lin Wenjie tightened her grip on the rifle. “Psychic ability user?”

Wen Qingling relayed a message to Lu Tianjin. “The chicken pecking begins. Keep an eye on them. If they run, I’ll hold you accountable.”

Lu Tianjin: “…”

Do I have no dignity?

The two large zombies were too slow, and Wen Qingling didn’t have time to wait for them. He planned to take a step ahead.

Inside the vehicle, Lin Wenjie angrily shouted, “Stop pretending to be mysterious! Identify yourself!”

“Do you really think you can change your name and sit anonymously? My surname is Wen, my name is Daddy!” Wen Qingling’s voice exploded in Lin Wenjie’s ear.

This sentence was heard by everyone inside the vehicle.

That familiar voice, that familiar arrogance, caused Yin Cheng and the others, who had witnessed Wen Qingling’s strength, to all have their pupils contract. “Wen! Qing! Ling!” Yin Cheng roared with clenched teeth.

Wen Qingling asked, “Why aren’t you calling me Daddy?”

Yin Cheng hated him to the core. “Dare to come to Central Mega City, and I will make sure you die here!”

Wen Qingling: “…”

Talking tough while driving away, quite impressive.

Lin Wenjie lowered her head, pushing the energy crystals one by one into the sniper rifle’s energy slot. “Stop the car.”

Stopping the car was impossible. Yin Cheng wasn’t prepared to deal with Wen Qingling yet. “He’s powerful, don’t confront him head-on…”

Lin Wenjie raised her gaze and looked at Yin Cheng, devoid of any emotions. “Xiao Hen and Wen Qingling are both here, and I’m going to kill them.”

“I know you hate them, but now is not the time to confront them!” Yin Cheng said desperately.

Lin Wenjie lifted the gun and smashed it toward the driver. “I told you to stop…”

Before Lin Wenjie could finish her sentence, everyone in the vehicle was thrown forward, and then the vehicle spun like a washing machine. With a loud crash, it slammed onto the ground, leaving everyone inside dazed.

Wen Qingling’s nonchalant voice sounded, “I helped you stop the car. You’re welcome.”
