Chapter 228 - Don't hurt alone

A group of prisoners could be seen engrossed in their daily activities of mining and being monitored so that they wouldn't slack off.

Jerry was present.

Just like the others, he was putting on an orange uniform and lifting rocks as instructed.

He was a little energetic today, because his plan was going on smoothly. Despite his age, he wasn't among the ones being shouted at, because he was very diligent with what he was doing.

His eyes constantly move about the men that had been brainwashed into thinking they would escape and soon, they could start their life as his men and have access to wealth.

It was a dream they never thought would come through, because if any one of them was let out from here, probably the time to face their death and someone suddenly came with hope.

They were already shielding him against bullying in the cell and Jerry had been trying to reach out to his connection that would make that happen.

But not everyone present there was a rogue. Some made a huge mistake which led them to this place and the preaching from the pastor that came to them might have annoyed some, but others are already turning a new leaf.

They don't mind paying for their sin with their death. They've been reporting Jerry's poach attempt to the warder and it has been brought to Leo's attention a lot of time.

Right now, Leo was dressed in a gray suit, looking as dashing as ever and staring at Jerry from afar.

He saw for himself that the man doesn't have any regrets for what he did. He was still feeling like a king.

He turned around and nodded at the group of men that came with him.

He wasn't paying any attention to it before, but after those people called Ella, despite their promise, he realized that if he doesn't moderate his kindness, it would blow back on his face, just like it did with her.

If he kept turning a blind eye, Jerry might motivate those gangs to breach their way out, due to the assurance he was giving them.

He didn't want to be a reason for his loved ones to get hurt again. Enough is enough.

Jerry heard his name and turned around.

Seeing those men dressed In black suits staring at him through the metallic net that demarcates where they work and the way to their cells, he looked so relaxed.

Perhaps those idiots finally contacted who he asked them to help him get through to.

He walked after the guard that came to take him away and secretly nodded at the guys, who seemed excited.

Leo was already in his car outside the building. Through the tinted glass, he saw Jerry being brought out with his hands cuffed behind his back.

He looked so damn relaxed.

Leo couldn't help but scoffed. He had never seen anyone as worse as this man. Somehow, he felt good about the decision he made.

Jerry saw the van from a distance and word couldn't describe his excitement. He finally gets to breathe fresh air again.

He's finally free!

He knew it must be his connection that was secretly making this transfer, since no one said anything to him.

'You wait till I get back at you, bastard." He thought and soon, they got to where the van was parked.

He noticed a car with tinted glass behind it and wondered who was in it.

They drove away from there, but inside the van, Jerry was shocked when they began strapping his body to a stretcher.

Is this a method to get him out?

He thought and didn't want to fight and messed up their plans.

Perhaps they lied that he's sick.

Yes! That must be the reason.

He mentally assured himself.

They began leaving the premises to go know where in Jerry's mind, while Leo couldn't wait to see his expression when he realized it wasn't what he was thinking.

He was sparing him because of his son, Alex. But now, he would take care of the boy himself.

The man isn't playing any important role in the boy's life anyway. Except the fact that he was still alive and Leo wasn't planning on killing him.

He had gone insane and he wanted to help him tune up his insanity and put him with where people like him should be.

Those with mental issues.

After a long drive, they drove into a private psychiatric hospital and soon, Jerry was helped down on a stretcher.

They let down the standing and carried him on it, before pushing him inside.

He was now confused. Why is he in a real hospital?

A mental institute at that!

His question was ignored, because he suddenly stopped cooperating.

He trashed his body and asked where they were taking him, but no response.

Anyone who sees him won't doubt that he was indeed crazy.

He was pushed into a ward and he noticed the back view of a man, sitting closer to the bed.

That identity got clearer as he was further pushed there and damn! It was this damn bastard!

"You!" He exclaimed.

Leo chuckled softly.

"Who did you think it would be? I put you there didn't I? Were you expecting your late brother to help you out from there?" He asked and Jerry's heart began thumping fast.

Why are things taking a turn like this? He wondered and he couldn't let out the curses that were always in store for this boy.

"Let me go. I have a son." He said.

Leo didn't reply and nodded at them to continue.

"Your son died. I killed him." Leo said and as a father, he was supposed to look affected, but as expected.

"An eye for an eye. I killed your father and you killed my son. You got your revenge, so release me." He said like they were having a negotiation.

Leo's anger flared up immediately.

He wasn't planning to do it directly, but reached for the liquid substance in a small bottle on the table.

"What is that?" Jerry asked.

Without mercy, Leo shook it in his chest and passed in the content.

He gasped and gagged as he pulled it out.

His head twitches and hands raise as if he wanted to talk.

"If someone should be dead, it's you. Not the boy." Leo said and stood up.

"Lock him where people like him should be." He said and they bow softly.

He began walking away without looking back.

The bastard didn't even mind that his son was killed.

Before Leo left the premises completely, Jerry was already looking like his soul had left him.

His gaze blank and brain no longer sane.

....

"Where are you?" Leo texted Clara.

It was during the weekend and Clara was in her house, her thoughts roaming about.

Mainly on where Sonya could be right now. When would she come around?

She wasn't crying over it again, but her heart longed for her. She missed her.

Reaching for her phone, she smiled softly when she saw Leo's name appear.

"I'm at home." She replied.

"I'm outside your doorstep." Leo replied and Clara's eyes widened.

She dashed towards it and immediately she opened the door, his body covered her own.

He held her so tightly that Clara's cheeks felt warm. He held her like she is the most important person in his life.

It was like his breathing depends on this hold.

"Are you okay?" Clara asked, not getting the chance to hug him back, because like I said, he covered his body to her own.

"I want to hold you much longer." He said and she chuckled.

"At least let me return the favor. I also want to hold you, Mr." She said and his hold relaxed.

She let out her hands and hugged him back.

"Did something happen?" She asked again.

"I was just so pissed at someone. I felt like I'm losing it." He said.

"Ella's parents?" She asked.

"Someone worse." He said.

"Jerry?" She asked.

"Yes, him." He affirmed to it.

"What did he do? Do you want to talk about it?" She asked.

"No, baby. It's not worth talking about. I just confirmed how inhuman he was, because when I mentioned that I've killed his son, he said an eye for an eye. He didn't even look a bit concerned." He included a short reason, so that I wouldn't seem like he did not appreciate his Interest in what happened.

"What a monster." Clara said, feeling her inside twisted.

She pulled back and he didn't resist.

She knew that must have awoken his long locked memories. She tugged at her wrist and dragged her along with him.

"Sit down." She said and Leo obeyed.

She also sat a bit far and Leo turned to look at her. She patted her lap and asked him to sleep.

He felt warm but still couldn't bring himself to laugh and Clara understood. Like an obedient child, he rested his head on her laps.

Clara stroked his hair softly. "You can always come to me when you feel like this. Don't hurt alone." She said.

"Thank you." He said and somehow, the strong urge to sleep came.

His breathing soon got even as Clara included singing. She hummed a soft tone to him as his silky hair felt so nice to touch.
