Chapter 131 - The sound of his beating heart

Clara was beginning to suspect Leo.

She doesn't understand why the little princess was now insisting that she wants to sleep with her in her room.

Leo would be the one to carry her over to her quarter, like she can't walk on her own.

The little princess would insist that they should both put her to sleep.

While doing that, Leo's hands and legs will keep brushing her own. Sometimes, he would apologize, sometimes he would pretend as if he didn't realize what happened.

The annoying part is how he also fell asleep on her bed with the little princess. She would have to wake him up after the little princess was finally fast asleep.

The same was happening right now.

Leo brought Belle into Clara's room and let her lay on top of her bed. Clara was laying at her right side, while Leo was at the left side.

He was grinning from ear to ear, but pretending as if it was meant for Belle. Clara kept staring at him, but he made sure to avoid eye contact.

Belle snuggled in between both of them and Enjoyed their warmth. Leo's leg occasionally brushed against Clara's own, same as how he purposely held her hand.

He had said, 'sorry! Excuse me! Oops!' More than 10 times already.

Clara bit down on her lower lip and stared at him. His eye lid was down, making his well set eyelashes very obvious and making her felt so amazed by the length.

Her eyes strolled down to his well pointed nose and sexy lips that were obviously hiding a smile. Even though Leo was trying to control himself from laughing, his lips kept quirking up on its own, making Clara realize that he was doing it on purpose.

Clara cleared her throat after realizing how long she has been staring at his lips. "I would like to have a conversation with you after Belle fell asleep, so you had better keep your eyes open and not sleep as well." Clara said.

"Sure." Leo replied, his heart beating hard against his chest. He just couldn't calm himself whenever he was around her.

And of course, one of the most important reasons why Leonard was extremely happy about the little princess, aside from the fact that she was so adorable and made him feel happy from the fatherly role, was that he finally had something that ties both him and Clara together.

The little princess had a deal with Leo. If she helped him with Clara, he would make her crush visit her and play with her.

The little princess saw the picture of Tim on Leo's phone. She liked him immediately and kept staring at it shyly while holding her blushing face with her tiny hands.

Leo realized that she barely wanted to part with his phone. Immediately he returned home from work, she would ask for his phone.

Leo caught her in the act a week ago and an idea popped up in his head, so they made the deal.

She was practically drooling over Tim's picture and claimed that he was so handsome.

After Belle fell asleep, Leo and Clara walked to the living room to have a talk.

After both of them had settled down on the sofa, Clara looked into his eyes seriously and spoke up. "Why do I find you suspicious these past days, Leonard?" Clara asked.

Leo looked at her innocently. "Suspicious? Me? How do you mean?" He asked.

Clara let out a sharp breath. "She was always obsessed with Mick since she arrived, and wouldn't leave his side. Why does she suddenly switch to me and why do you always tag along? Most importantly, what is with the,

'Mommy and daddy are here'

'Mommy and daddy will take care of you'

that you keep saying? Do you know how frustrated I felt each time you said that? It's not as if she's a newborn baby, she is  five!" Clara poured out her heart.

Leo cleared his throat. "First of all, I didn't tag along, I carried her here." He said.

Clara raised her brows at him. "I'm sure she knew her way to my quarter by herself," she countered.

Leo suddenly looked at her seriously, making Clara felt her heart skip. His eyes bored into her own and she couldn't look away. They are so deep and she felt like he was looking directly into her soul.

His lips parted and he spoke after searching her eyes for a while and saw how his own was able to hold hers in place.

"What do you think about spending the rest of your life with me? I mean, we have a child now, and you can use this opportunity to spend my money as you want and get your revenge on me to your fill." Leo said.

Hearing his words, Clara gulped down on her saliva and felt her heart start to race wildly, as she stared at him in surprise.

She doesn't understand why her heart raced each time Leo was around her, ever since the day she felt Leo's heart beat wildly for her, when she was abducted. Her mind kept drifting to the sound of his beating heart.

Tim, who had openly proposed to her, never crosses her mind once, but the man who she hated was making her heart race each time he was around her now.

Clara finally found her voice after their 3 minutes staring contest. "You! what did you just say?" She asked.

Leo could see the confusion in her eyes. He planned to wait, but wanted to slowly give her something to think about. He wanted to get into her head.

"I was only just teasing you. To be sincere, you seem different recently. Your temper was now in check. Could it be that being a mother changed you, or you have fallen for me?" Leo tried to turn the table around.

Clara laughed at his last sentence. "Fall for you? I would rather fall for a dog than you, and unless you've forgotten, I don't think of you as a man." Clara said nervously, her wavering eyes betraying the words coming out of her lips.

Leo would have felt bad if he didn't see how her eyes couldn't help but look away from his own before she replied. She couldn't say it straight to his eyes.

"What is the meaning of this?" Clara asked as Leo's hand suddenly reached for her. His right palm rested in between her neckline, making her heart go crazy and her body feeling unsettled.

Leo leaned closer, their face inches apart and Clara couldn't summon the courage to headbutt him like he did, the last time. "Why?" He asked, his fresh breath tickling Clara's lips, yet she felt like something was pinning her on the spot.

"You said you don't see me as a man, so how about I start treating you like how a woman treats a fellow woman." He said and gave her a mischievous smirk, before a wink followed.

"You pervert!" Clara pulled back away from him instantly.

Leo chuckled. "Why are your cheeks so red?" He teased.

"Leave right now! I'm done talking to you." Clara said, avoiding eye contact.

Leo stared at her with his lips pressed together and eyes full of affection. "Fine! I would leave. I would bring our daughter tomorrow as well, so I hope you get used to it, goodnight honey." He said and got up on his feet.

Hearing his footsteps exiting the room, Clara finally turned to stare at Leo's departing back.

She scoffed after he was finally out of sight. "Why does it feel like he was doing this on purpose? Is this some kind of revenge or what?" Clara muttered to herself.
