Guidance

It was late at night. The hospital was silent.

Lian Jing gently closed the door of the ward and walked to the lounge chair near the elevator door.

“President Lian, the information you asked for is here.” Secretary Zhong Xin turned around and rubbed his red eyes.

It was already 11 o’clock at night. If Lian Jing had not suddenly rung him up and summoned him, he would have been sleeping soundly.

“Very good.” Lian Jing carefully scanned the ID photo of the person on the document. His gaze moved down slightly and he saw the words ‘Chief Forensic Pathologist, 3rd Precinct, Xinhe District, Beijing’.

He slammed the file shut and suddenly muttered, “So she’s a female forensic pathologist. No wonder she’s so strong.”

“Oh, right.” Zhong Xin looked at his cell phone and reported, “Miss Yun said that she’s about to join the production team for filming. She wants to meet you for dinner at Wang Jiang Restaurant tomorrow night.”

“No.” Lian Jing handed the document back to him. He looked forbidding and distant. “I have other plans tomorrow night. Don’t say anything to anyone.”

“Sure.” Zhong Xin sighed and left in the elevator, exhausted.

The next day, the atmosphere in the office of the 3rd Criminal Investigation Division was much more relaxed than usual.

“What? The case is solved?” Shen Yin sat in front of the screen, drinking the yogurt that Meng Heng had specially bought for her.

Zou Sheng snapped his fingers and leaned towards her mysteriously. “Captain Wu dragged the murderer out of bed last night. He’s still in the interrogation room.”

“Watch your words. They’re suspects. They haven’t confessed yet.” Wu Zheng walked in with a stack of documents. Meng Heng quickly helped him distribute them to everyone present.

“Them?” She raised her eyebrows and drank the last of yogurt, concentrating on the case report in her hand.

“That’s right. Based on Dr. Shen’s autopsy report yesterday, we quickly identified one of the suspects. It was Liu Feng, the wife of the CEO of the securities company where the deceased worked.”

Shen Yin nodded and said as if she had expected it, “The child belongs to the CEO.”

“The wife found out about the affair. She hired a killer several times and used all kinds of methods to kill the mistress.” Zou Sheng flashed the remittance records between Liu Feng and the hired killer on the big screen. “It’s a cliché, but she’s really ruthless.”

Wu Zheng looked at Shen Yin appreciatively and thanked her. “Thank you, Dr. Shen. If you hadn’t found out that the deceased was pregnant and provided us with clues, we wouldn’t have solved the case so quickly.”

“Thud, thud, thud.” There was a sudden knock on the office door, interrupting the conversation within. Han Xu made himself as small as possible and said in a voice as soft as a mosquito buzz, “Sorry to disturb you, Boss. The chief wants you in his office.”

“Then I had better go.” Shen Yin stood up and left. Behind her, Zou Sheng waved reluctantly. “Beautiful Sister, come again next time!”

Wu Zheng said, “Shut up!”

When she pushed open the door to the director’s office, Chief Wang Zhigang had just hung up the phone. He waved for Shen Yin to close the door and said earnestly, “Are you adjusting to working here?”

Shen Yin smiled politely. “Yes, Chief Wang. Can I help you?”

“It’s like this. The entertainment industry is about to film a television drama series about forensic pathologists. The production crew’s goal is to promote the work of forensic pathologists in society and increase public awareness of the daily life and working conditions of forensic pathologists. This is also a good opportunity for us to improve the public image of forensic pathologists.”

Chief Wang adjusted his glasses and picked up the steaming teacup on the table. He smiled and said, “The production team requested for the main lead to visit the police station and receive training. I’ve already agreed. You’re the highest-ranking forensic pathologist in our police station. I’ll leave this matter to you.”

“Understood, Chief Wang. I’ll guide him well.” This sort of thing was actually very common. Shen Yin had no reason to refuse. Besides, it was just a formality. It was not difficult to briefly explain the work of a forensic pathologist to an actor and it was not very time-consuming.

“Great.” Chief Wang put down his teacup and nodded. “Go ahead then. The actors will be here later. Wait in the conference room on the third floor.”

Someone had already cleaned up the conference room. She heard that even the bonsai had been rearranged. It was a mark of how highly the police department regarded this actress.

Shen Yin casually found a seat and sat down. She crossed her legs and scrolled through her phone in boredom. An hour had passed before there was a commotion downstairs.
