Chapter 166 - The Rescue

Name:Help...My Wife is a Spy Author:Yunyi
Sean rushed to the end of the pier at full speed and looked down at the spot where Alexander and Trojan had fallen. All that remained were little bubbles where the two men had broken the water's surface.

As it was night time and there was no light, it was hard to see where Alexander and Trojan had gone.

Sean immediately tore off his shirt, his bulletproof vest, and his pants. He needed to get rid of anything restricting his body as quickly as possible. He then dived straight into the water like a missile while the other officers shone flashlights to provide some light and to see if they could spot the two men.

"Alexander Dupont," the officers yelled.

Under the water, it was silent. As Sean looked around, all he saw were streams of light hitting pure darkness. There was no one in sight.

Suddenly, he felt a ripple next to him; another officer had entered the water to help. Following on, another entered...and another. Everyone was trying their best to find and save the two men. Sean looked at them thankfully as he continued to scan the water around him.

Finally, he noticed some movement a little further down from where he was. He immediately waved at the other officers and pointed downwards.

They had found Alexander and Trojan!

Alexander was still conscious and he was trying his best to swim back to the surface while tugging at the unconscious Trojan. Unfortunately, Trojan wasn't the only thing weighing him down, the clothes and the bulletproof vest he wore were now soaked in water and it added extra weight to his body.

Sean and the officers quickly swam towards the two men. Just as they reached them, Sean could see that Alexander had reached his limit and was running out of oxygen. Sean and the officers immediately dragged the two men to the surface and carried them back up onto the pier.

Alexander took a big gasp of air as soon as he reached the surface and coughed a bit of water out. Any longer and he would have drowned. "Thank you," he said to Sean and the other officers. He then glanced to his side and saw Trojan, who was still handcuffed to him, lying unconscious on the ground. An officer was knelt down beside the man, trying his best to resuscitate him.

Trojan had stopped breathing and blood was oozing from his chest where he had been shot. Everything had happened so quickly.

Alexander looked around. Where did the bullet come from? Was it one of these officers? Or was someone watching them?

Perhaps, the shooter was trying to shut Trojan up because they knew he had been compromised.

Trojan was soon rushed to the hospital. The officers had managed to resuscitate the man, and the doctors at the hospital successfully removed the bullet from his chest; fortunately, it had missed his heart and vital organs. He had simply lost a lot of blood and needed a blood transfusion.

But, due to drowning and losing oxygen to his brain for a while, the man remained unconscious. The local police somehow heard about the man's admission to the hospital and immediately sent officers to guard his hospital room. Sure, Interpol and the Chinese SPU had special permission to hold an investigation in their city, but the man that was injured was an important figure from neighboring Hong Kong. So, they had no choice but to intervene.

"We will have to step in here. If you have any complaints, speak to our boss. This man is innocent until proven guilty and it is our responsibility to protect him while he is on our land and in this vulnerable state," the head officer explained.

After speaking to the head officer, Sean and his team finally discovered the true identity of Trojan. His name was Stanley Rong - he was the senior superintendent of the Hong Kong police!

And, judging by Macau police's refusal to cooperate as well as the speed at which they responded to the man's accident, Stanley Rong seemed to have a huge influence in Macau as well.

"We have proof that this man is involved with bribery, murder, and corruption, and we have reason to believe that someone tried to kill him so he wouldn't divulge the identities of other corrupt officers," Sean explained. "We will take our evidence to your Chief Superintendent right now, but we request that we leave one of our men here to ensure that Mr. Rong remains safe while we're gone."

The officer nodded his head, "I understand. You can leave one of your men here."

Sean immediately looked at Alexander, he was the only person he could trust at that moment.

"Go, I'll keep an eye on things here," Alexander said.

Sean nodded his head and quickly left.

...

Over at the temple, the ritual was over and everyone was leaving. Just as Jackson boarded his car, he received a phone call from Sean. After all, Jackson was in command of the entire mission, so Sean had to report to him about the incident.

Jackson furrowed his brows in frustration.

He thought they'd be able to apprehend Trojan without him revealing his identity, but things had become a lot more complicated.

"I'll come with you to meet the Chief Superintendent. I guess it's time for me to reveal myself," Jackson said.

At that moment, a figure peeked out from the shadows of the backseat. "What happened? Why are you meeting the Chief Superintendent?" the shadow whispered.

Jackson hung up his phone and jumped in fright as he turned around and saw the pale-faced Halia. Her long black hair strung eerily across her face and the fake bullet wound on her chest looked gruesomely real.

The phone call had distracted him for a moment and he forgot that Halia was hiding in the backseat of his car.

"You almost scared me to death!" he yelled.

Halia brushed back her hair and looked at the man worriedly, "Did something go wrong with Alexander's meeting?"

Jackson sighed and nodded his head. At that moment, Amelie arrived and got into the car. She had gone to the bathroom and asked Jackson to return to the car first.

As she sat down, she noticed the stern look on the couple's faces. "Is something wrong?" she asked.

She suddenly had a bad feeling. She was sure she heard a gunshot earlier.

"Did something happen to Alexander?" she asked nervously.
