Chapter 336 - The First Princess

The part of the castle, where Chris was living, was mostly filled with empty bedrooms, big dining rooms, living rooms or tea parlours and nothing else. As Chris wandered aimlessly she realised why there weren't many guards at this wing. It was not just a daytime thing, it was because there was nothing special to protect at this part, and that's why they had put a witch here, away from their important rooms. But Chris wasn't ready to let this go that easily, was she? So she decided to go to the other side of the castle. But there was only one problem, she didn't know which way to go. The Vampire Castle was a freaking maze. Half of the hallways and doors looked the same, and there was barely any window to peek inside. She thought she ended up in the same hallway thrice. Finally, she saw a servant talking to a royal guard and thought that she will just follow that servant but as she drew closer, she realised the servant and the guard was talking about her and the servant was the same woman, who gave her the meal a couple of hours ago.

". . . no, no. The witch was not happy that Her Majesty had refused to meet her. I thought she was going to attack Guardian Gweneth," the servant said dramatically.

"You are not joking, are you?" the guard asked looking surprised.

"Of course not," the woman snapped. "Even Guardian Gweneth looked shocked. I didn't believe before, but these witches are true savages. I don't understand why Her Majesty doesn't kick her out. What good will do if keep her here and endanger ourselves? We were just fine before she came. We didn't need to join this pointless wizarding war."

Its been long since Chris had felt this kind of urge to punch someone. But she balled her fist and tried to calm herself down.

"Eda! Hold your tongue, will you?" the guard said alarmed. "If anyone heard you. . . you will be in trouble."

"Yeah? Like going to that witch's room is not troubling at all, huh?" The woman, Eda snorted. "I have to watch my back every time I walk into her room. What if she kills me and then takes my form to roam around? It will be very funny, will it?"

"Do you think she will do that?" the guard asked. "I mean the Queen trusts her, so I thought she can't be that dangerous, you know."

"Ha! Not dangerous, Nomed?" Eda glared at the guard, Nomed. "Have you seen her pet? That boney horse thing. If not then let me tell you, it doesn't look like a white gallant unicorn, it looks like a demon's ride, a death's messenger."

Powerful magic crackled around Chris. She was definitely going to teach this big-mouthed servant a lesson. But before she could draw her wand, a bell rang somewhere within the castle and Eda almost jumped.

"Hells, I forgot how late it is. I need to be in royal quarters before the Princes and Princesses wake up," Eda spoke very fast. "I will see you later, Nomed. Bye."

Nomed nodded and Eda started running. Chris took off after her. This was her chance to see the Royal quarters. After following her in a lot of twists and turns, Chris finally entered Eda's destination, the kitchen. There were a few more servants there, who waved at Eda, then one of them, an old man handed her a food tray.

"Give it the fair man and after he had finished eating, take him to the First Princess's chamber. Her Highness is in need of blood," the old servant said and bustled away.

"Of course," Eda gave a nod and started to walk out.

After debating for a moment about she should follow her or not, Chris decided to go. She needed to know as much as possible. She slowly trailed behind Eda, memorising the routes. She also noticed the number of guards that had increased around the Royal quarters. After walking for a while, Eda stopped in front of a pair of tall double doors, which reminded Chris of the Great Hall. The guards opened the door and Eda stepped forward. It was a long brightly lit narrow corridor with dozens of doors on both left and right. There were even numbers carved on those black doors. Eda passed a first few doors then knocked on door number 14. A big bulky fair man opened the door and Chris got a glimpse of a carelessly made bed and some belongings behind him. The room was very very small and Chris was sure the man should have problems living in there but why was he living like this?

"Here's your food," with a disgusted look Eda handed the food tray to the man. "And get ready fast. It's morning and First Princess needs you."

"Really?" The man suddenly broke into a huge grin. "Wait, I will be quick."

Eda rolled her eyes and waited as the man sat down on his messy bed, leaving the door open and started to gobble down the food.

Within hardly ten minutes, the man was ready to go. He quickly pulled a jacket over his clothes, left the food tray in the corner, closed the door and followed Eda with a stupid grin on his face. Again they stopped in front of a door, but this time the carving and elegant designs of the door implied that the room belonged to someone important. Eda lightly knocked on the door.

"Your Highness," she called after a moment.

The door opened and a gorgeous woman came into view. Chris's jaw almost dropped on the floor. The woman had big almond-shaped eyes, which were red; a sharp nose, full pouty red lips, high cheekbones; her oval face was framed with long flowing dark black hair and her skin was paler than her white clothes.

"Morning, your Highness, your --" Eda began but the woman held her hand up.

She eyed Eda and the man sceptically, then she looked around the corridor. After a moment her eyes stopped around the area Chris was standing. Instinctively, Chris looked down on herself to see if her magic was wearing out or something, but everything was fine. She looked at the woman again and saw her face was alight with concentration . . . and she looked angry, very angry. A cold chill ran down Chris's spine. The woman was dangerous and somehow she could feel that Chris was there. Chris quickly stepped back and as soon as she was out of the vampire woman's sight, she started running. She got lost in the corridors again but she didn't stop until she was near her room. Closing the room door behind her she slid down on the floor panting. It was almost twenty minutes run but it felt like a few seconds to her. That beautiful woman's dangerous angry face was still fresh on Chris's mind. She was scary and very powerful. . . and the first Princess.

I am so screwed.
