Chapter 101 A Sacrifice

Slash!

The chine lodged into his shoulder.

"Aaahh!"

*****

Several miles away, Yoru sensed something wrong, sidestepping to the side just in time to avoid another shot to her head by a soldier's arrow.

'How could he have been found out so easily?!' She frowned and made a ring of flames around her, with embers hovering around.

Coating her body in flames, she created a cloud of smoke that spread out around her, diffusing and obscuring their visions.

Cough!

Cough!

"She mustn't escape!"

Another guard made a spiral motion of his fingers, creating a whirlwind that dispersed the smoke.

Rushing in, some of them stomped their feet in disappointment, while others cursed at having lost their one chance at capture.

The marks on them began glowing as it signaled them that they were close to the original target they had been searching for.

Breaking off into smaller groups of 4, they all set out for different possible routes of escape while convertible at the location.

Huff!

Huff!

The sounds of footsteps were made on the roof as Melody ran in search of the soldier who she had recognized as her master, who had chased after a hooded male.

Screeching to a halt, Melody made a mental connection with Hisha once more. 'Master?'

Looking over his shoulder, the soldier had a smirk but did not comment, merely nodding as he loomed over the male.

Tilting her head to the side, she caught sight of another male who was unconscious and looked as though he was thrown to keep him away from the soldier.

Wanting to step closer to have a look, she was startled by the cackling sound of the hooded male.

"Step closer, if you dare!" He barked with a loud manic laughter, spurting out blood right after.

The soldier had his feet on him and his right hand on the snath before proceeding to pull it out of the male's shoulder.

A groan in pain and coughing could be heard which was followed by laughter. "If you think you have it all planned, you're wrong!"

Casting a grim look at him, Hisha had the soldier kick hard on the face with his boots.

Bam!

Blood splattered from his mouth as his face was forced to the side.

Not giving up on his claims, he continued even though he couldn't move his face off the ground.

Using the corner of his lips, he gathered all the strength he could to move the muscles in his lips. "Your... s... s... sacrifice would be appreciated."

[Fuck your nonsense!]

Bam!

The soldier stomped on his chest, leaving Melody watching helplessly as she awaited her captors.

[You're having the time of your life, aren't you?]

Nodding his head to his system, Hisha had a smirk. 'I had always wanted a VR headset and to live a fantasy life and beat up some bad guys...'

[You seem to be the bad guy now, host]

HTC deadpanned, being able to witness and replay all Hisha had done before Melody had shown up, using the soldier's body to his advantage.

'He deserves all that he got, aren't Vandriks meant to be a lot harder to kill?' Hisha whined, pouting at how bored the fight made him feel.

[Don't feel too cocky, host. Be careful what you wish for]

Boom!

Hisha stood frozen, even though the crash had been done out of his range, he stared at the translucent screen from Melody's eyes.

'What the heck just happened?!' Hisha frowned, and immediately he was denied access to the soldier's mark.

Once the cloud of dust had cleared, Melody watched in horror as Yoru licked her grown claws stained with blood. The soldier's head was ripped off from the body along with a broken part of the spinal cord.

'What the heck is with Vandriks and head ripping?!' Hisha barked in disbelief.

He wondered why he couldn't sense her arrival all the while and could do nothing but blame himself for losing a soldier.

[Your perception can't be as good when you are controlling a body. That soldier wouldn't have been able to hold on to his life for this long if you hadn't taken over]

"Ha ha ha ha ha!!!" Yoru's voice resonated as her red eyes gleamed, opening her hands wide.

Bringing back her attention to the soldier's body, she looked at the head as though he was still alive.

With dead eyes staring back at her, she winked at it, "did I ever tell you, you look ravishing in this new look... but..."

She rubbed her chin, smearing more blood, then casting a devious grin at Melody.

[Do not act rashly!] Hisha warned.

Being the first time encountering such a deadly aura seething off a person other than Hisha, she didn't need to be told how she needed to react to the uncertain situation.

Gasping in a ruse surprise, Yoru looked back at the soldier, patting him on the pale cheeks, "Oh my! He's missing a body?!"

Melody flinched at the words due to Yoru's gaze unmoving from her direction.

When the hooded male got to his feet with great effort, Yoru punched him in the face to reset the structure of his neck.

"You're useless!" She snapped in disappointment.

Crrk!

Melody winced at the sound and took yet another step back, knowing her limit, there was no way she was going to waste that on engaging in a battle she couldn't win or risk getting into a much bigger conflict with the soldiers.

"My..."

Yoru shut her partner up with an ember enlarged in the size of a tennis ball, threatening to explode in his face, if he were to mention her with the title of her tribe.

"Get him back here, we have found a substitute!" She ordered in a hushed whisper.

Getting her advice, he walked towards the invisible barrier he had created around Gregg, carrying him in his arms once more.

"So, you are the one who dealt a blow to that useless swine!" Yoru scoffed, rolling her eyes.

'How the hell does she know that?!' Hisha wondered, looking to HTC for some answers.

[Her connection is still something that you need to cut from its roots]

Although not the answer he was looking for, he had understood what she had meant by those words.

Regrouping with her partners, she stepped on the body of the soldier, "no one messes with my partners and gets away with it!"

Hisha could almost tell that she knew he had some sort of role in all that had happened and the fact that the soldier was controlled by him.

Setting the sole of her bare feet on the body of the soldier, she lit it up with a different colored flame of blue and green hue.

Unable to stand and watch, Melody shot a water whip slapping Yoru's face to the side which greatly shocked her.

Gritting her teeth in anger, Yoru pulled her leg away from the ash of the soldier.

"I would love to see your purpose in this world." She hissed with her cryptical message before letting out a creepy smile.

Holding back her partner from engaging with Melody. Whispering from the corner of her lips to soothe his rage.

Melody watched as the deep cut slowly healed with the touch of Yoru and could only hope her lord could get some sort of clue from what they could see.

Placing the severed head on Gregg's body, Yoru walked behind her partner, feeling his chest–rubbing more of the blood on him and placing her head on his left unharmed shoulder.

Melody's eyes were glued to the ash-covered floor, before they landed on the head of the soldier in the possession of the hooded male, "you're a monster!"

"We all are." Yoru shrugged as she opened her eyes and smiled the moment she saw them surrounded by the remaining soldiers.

"My, my, you are all slow for a bunch of soldiers!" Yoru belittled them and clicked her tongue, stepping in front of her partner.

Not giving a moment of little talk with her, they all channeled their Sux for a final strike.

Deflecting their attempts, Yoru dusted her hands and blew on them. "You all almost ruined my nails!"

They all looked stunned, shocked by how easy it was for her to deflect their attacks even in her weakened state.

'How about I take over another soldier's body and kill her?!' Hisha suggested to his system.

[That wouldn't work because they can't be as evasive as you could in your own body. You would merely be sacrificing another for her plans]

'If I can get just an opening.'

[The rule still applies, don't be foolish, host! Only your harem members can kill her!]

Fallon back on his bed, Hisha slammed his fist in rage.

'If that's how it's played, the celestials are in for a show!' Hisha fumed as he stared at the ceiling.
