◆Part3【If Possible, You’ll Always Have A Low Tolerance For Horror, Right?】

I had to think about how to get along with Yua again because of Ousaki, so I cycled home in a daze.

“I’m home~…”

In a daze, I spat out the greeting mechanically.

“Shin-nii, welcome home.”

The person who greeted me was an adorable little girl with shoulder-length black hair and a beautiful ring in her hair, like an angel.

It was my stepsister, Tsumugi.

She must have been home first before me. She came to the door to greet me.

Thanks to Yua, the awkwardness between me and Tsumugi has disappeared, and it’s not so unusual for her to greet me like this…

“Come on, hurry up and get in here.”

It was the first time I had ever been greeted by someone so enthusiastic that they clung to my waist.

As I stared at Tsumugi’s unusually friendly face, I could see a hint of guilt in her smile.

And then there was the terrifying image on the TV in the living room.

“…Tsumugi, I told you before that you shouldn’t watch a horror movie alone.”

Tsumugi is a big fan of horror movies, but while she’s good at the physical type of Western horror movies, with monsters chasing her and blood spilling all over the place, she’s not so good at the psychological Japanese type of horror movies. I can easily dismiss deformed monsters and splatter as fictional because they are exaggerated, but I have a fear that I might actually encounter some psychic phenomena somewhere. I’m not a big fan of them. I’m not very good at it either.

Whenever she tried to watch such horror movies, she always had me next to her, but the fact that she tried to watch it alone may have been a sign that she wanted to grow up in her own way.

“No, that’s not it! There is nothing I’m not good at!”

She puffed out her cheeks, pressed her cheeks against my chest, and exhaled.

“You’re right, Tsumugi isn’t afraid of either Sadako or the white kid from Ju-On.” [TLN: Sadako from The Ring and Ju-On (The Grudge) references]

[EDN: You know? That one kid that f*cking crawls on the floor to traumatize you.]

Tsumugi is a very cute girl, but she has a bit of a show-off tendency and tries to be too much even for me, her family member.

I couldn’t help but notice that Tsumugi’s attitude seemed to be that she’s trying to overcome the grief of losing her mother by trying to be more mature than her age.

Unlike me, who was a loner, Tsumugi had a decent school life with wonderful friends, so it was unlikely that she would fail in her relationships by trying to look good.

Tsumugi took me by the hand and we walked to the living room.

“It’s not because I’m scared, it’s just that I’m overwhelmed with the desire to welcome Shin-nii.”

Tsumugi says as she pulls me into the living room.

“Yes, yes, thank you.”

“I paused at a good part to watch with you, Shin-nii.”

“Yes, you did. You paused it at a really good part.”

I looked at the wide screen TV in the living room and saw that the movie she was watching was paused, with a woman with long hair and dressed in white almost appearing at the edge of the screen. If she had paused a little later, she would have seen a close-up of the said woman in white.

Grinning inwardly, I decided to sit down next to Tsumugi.

“It’s a good thing I am here today, it would have been scary for you if Shin-nii was alone.”

Before I knew it, Tsumugi seemed to have decided that I was the one who had trouble with watching Japanese horror movies.

For that, though, Tsumugi is clinging to my arm.

“Yeah, I’m so glad you’re here with me, Tsumugi.”

This is what I really feel.

If Tsumugi hadn’t come to the Nagumo household, I might have been left alone for a long time.

And I may have never even gotten involved with Yua.

If I hadn’t had the chance to confess that I was worried about Tsumugi, Yua wouldn’t have  taken an interest in me.

Well, Tsumugi had to come to our house because she lost her mother, so it would be inappropriate for me to feel happy here. So I couldn’t say thank you to her for coming to our house. I guess I’m not completely at ease with Tsumugi yet, since I’m hesitant to do so. I’m not sure how far I’m allowed to go.

The horror film playing on the large, powerful 8K TV was reaching its climax now.

I wanted to change out of my uniform and into my loungewear and get ready for dinner, but Tsumugi was still clinging to my arm and wouldn’t let go of it.

I thought to myself, “If I go through a difficult phase where Tsumugi is annoyed with me in the future, maybe I can solve the problem without resorting to Yua by bringing in a Japanese horror story.”
