Chapter 140 Power Beyond The Edge

Sparks of frost flew off to the sides, while Zayne's fingertips were covered in a thin layer of ice. Selania shuddered since she could feel how powerful this skill was, especially given Zayne's increased strength.

Whoooooooooooosh.

Zayne's sword erupted in azure flame as he made two diagonal sweeps, forming a flaming cross, which went through Selania like a ghost.

Selania's eyes went wide with the chilling pain she experienced, then an X-shape cut appeared on her back, exploding with blue fire.

"This is the end... To get this power I went through the hardest fight of my life, you can't surpass that." Zayne said calmly, swinging his sword once more, passing through her sturdy armor with ease.

Selania vomited out a mouthful of blood and with trembling eyes recoiled to the side, quickly moving as far away from Zayne as she could at all. The top of her armor was completely frozen, almost becoming ice as a wide scar was left on her back.

"Agh... Agh... Agh... Unbelievable... One attack, but how powerful it was... You fucking monster..." Selania muttered, breathing heavily and trying to come to her senses.

"Unlike you, I don't sacrifice ordinary people and allies in the name of fulfilling a purpose. Obviously, I'm not the kindest person, but I'm still a long way from your level." Zayne said calmly, steering forward with a confident gait, the tip of his sword touching the ground, leaving a thin line from which icy threads emanated across the stone slabs.

Selania's gaze gradually blurred, her entire body bled, and the cold slowly brought her closer to the end, she had no choice but to use the last of what she had.

"Damn... I just got out of captivity, but I'm already being forced to waste my trump card, it's frustrating..." Selania shook her head as she ran her palm over the blade of her sword, coating it with thin trickles of blood.

'Agh...? What is she doing? Zayne muttered inwardly in confusion.

Selania noticed his puzzled look and said, "My sword is special, which is not unusual for someone of my status." Selania glanced at the three runes on the sword that glowed brightly from contact with her blood.

"Each rune contains an enormous amount of Fate Energy... so, in simple terms, by activating my sword, I will release a power comparable to three Fate Coins." Selania said confidently, running her fingers over her armor, which cracked at the mere touch.

"Three Fate Coins at a time...?" Zayne uttered in disbelief as a shiver ran through his body. At the same moment, scarlet wings opened behind him as he lunged forward as fast as he could.

He couldn't let her use that kind of power, or it would be the end for him.

Tremble. Tremble. Tremble.

An indescribable amount of energy came out of Selania's body, a multitude of blue streams spreading around while the main part rushed toward the sky, forming an unstable pillar of energy.

Selania swung her arm, causing an explosion, throwing Zayne not a few meters away. He collided with the azure crystal with his back, breaking it and ending up under the glowing debris.

Crack. Crackle. Crackle.

Under the pressure of energy, Selania's armor shattered, crumbling to the ground and exposing her body. Selania didn't look like a princess or an ordinary noblewoman at all, she was a warrior, and her body was more proof than her sword, status, or armor.

"Fuck... What has she been through...?" Zayne's eyes went wide from the dozens of scars covering Selania's body and from her not-at-all-feminine muscles that any man would envy.

"It's called experience." Selania murmured, absorbing all the energy that came out of her sword, "Each scar is a priceless memory, for it means you survived a deadly battle and won!"

Whoooooooooooooooooosh.

Selania took a step as the ground beneath her cracked, then she turned into a blue flash, finding herself right in front of Zayne.

Zayne's pupils narrowed as he managed to block the attack at the last moment, but the power coming at him was too strong to keep his feet, and the momentum tossed him aside.

The world spun before Zayne's eyes as if he were in the middle of a vortex, he struggled to regain his balance, not knowing what lay ahead.

"Your previous attack definitely left a scar on my back, so you've already done more than you should... I'll remember you forever, Zayne Fellen..." Selania muttered, taking a breath and appearing beside Zayne before his feet could touch the ground.

Crackling.

Selania's foot plunged into Zayne's stomach, breaking several of his ribs, squeezing his organs, and tossing him high up like a projectile.

"Agh..." Selania exhaled cold steam, as her sword coated with blue energy, ready to burst forth.

She looked at Zayne, whose silhouette was dark because of the bright moonlight behind him, and muttered, "You may be a good man with pure intentions, but it's all because of your inexperience. It is better that your journey end now, in which case this world cannot corrupt another soul."

Selania raised her sword high, and streams of energy emanating from the tip of the sword covered her like streams, only her eyes were clearly visible through this veil.

Zayne fell slowly, moving straight toward the sharp blade. His eyes were almost closed, the darkness slowly consuming him while his consciousness was going away, Zayne could have passed out at any moment, he was too weak.

'Hey... What the hell are you doing...' An eerie voice sounded as if it came from a nightmare as a terrifying silhouette with two crimson eyes appeared in Zayne's mind.

'Fight... You can still use that skill... Again! Go!' The voice echoed through his mind.

'No... My body can't handle this... I have too little HP...' Zayne muttered, accepting his defeat.

'What!? What the fuck are you talking about! You're not a calculating scientist, you're a warrior! Fight like a wild beast if you want to win!!!' A roar as if from the depths of the abyss rang through every part of Zayne's mind.

Then, two crimson eyes appeared amidst the blue moon, staring at Selania and causing her primal fear.
