Chapter 53 Versus. Necromancer (5)

Although Ethan could stop and melt all the ice hands the necromancer could shoot at him, at the very least, Ethan was unable to attack the necromancer thanks to it. Ethan and Hannah had noticed a long time ago that the necromancer really wanted to bury them alive inside that mountain of ice. It was really obvious. Still, both of them were more worried about something else.

"Ethan…" Hannah muttered while showing a pained expression.

"It is okay. This will end soon," Ethan said.

A considerable amount of blood was dropping from Ethan's hands. As if that wasn't enough, the whole area of his clothes around his arms was red due to the blood. That was the price of trying to overpower your enemies when you don't have the strength to do it. Thanks to Hannah's support, Ethan still could fight, but Ethan's arms would have been long gone in any other situation.

Ethan's broken bones were been repaired pretty fast, but not fast enough due to the distance between him and Hannah. At that point in time, the necromancer decided to use the plan to bury them alive as a plan b since it was clear that Ethan's arms were reaching their limits.

"… How many times has this happened?" Ethan asked after a long sigh. "No wonder people like you never defeated me and never will."

In any other situation, the necromancer would feel that his victory was assured. Still, while looking at Ethan, he couldn't help but think that with every single passing moment, he was driving himself into a corner. It didn't make sense that he would feel so threatened by a kid like that, a kid whose arms were being unutilized after every single of his attacks… Still, the necromancer was feeling like that.

The necromancer knew that heroes had cheat-like powers, powers that beings made of flesh weren't supposed to have, even after decades of constant training. Still, he could tell that Ethan's true strength didn't rely on something like that. The hero who saved the world was another insane kid, someone who learned many more spells in a few months than the necromancer learned in decades of dedicated study. Still, that hero was a mage who pulverized her enemies from the backlines. It was obvious that she never acquired that level of resolution that was clear to madness… at least, she never had the chance to.

While the necromancer was mesmerized by Ethan's capacity to endure such grave wounds and inability to retreat, Ethan disappeared from his sight. Still, the necromancer didn't panic. Instead, in a single moment, he created three of those massive ice hands and fired them. Even if Ethan was fast enough to escape from his eyes, his goal was clear. As the necromancer expected, his magic projectiles blocked Ethan's charge. However, much to his surprise, Ethan destroyed these three projectiles in the blink of an eye. As if that wasn't crazy enough, his charge didn't slow down even a single bit.

When Ethan entered its range, the electric barrier was activated. However, he ignored it. Ethan swung his bastard sword and tried to split the necromancer's head in two. However, the ice barrier formed around him, and just like before, his weapon didn't leave a single dent on it.

"That is a very powerful barrier," Ethan said while he was pointing the tip of his sword toward the necromancer's right arm. "However, everything… absolutely everything has a weakness."

The range of the ice barrier was considerably smaller than the electric one. It was only obvious, given the difference in power between those. The ice barrier was like an armor, a very heavy armor, and since the necromancer was inside of it, he couldn't move normally. That was what Ethan was implying.

The necromancer panicked and moved its staff to cast another spell, but before that could happen, Ethan used Explosive Impact. Not only did this time, his attack leaves a small mark on the ice barrier, but it also dispersed all the mane the necromancer tried to infuse. Thus, canceling the spell. Still, the damage was received, the barrier was small, and it would probably withstand dozens if not hundreds of those attacks. Still, Ethan used it without remorse.

Every time Explosive Impact was used, the mark on the barrier increased in size and stopped the necromancer's spells. Still, at the same time, more and blood was dripping from Ethan's hands. He was damaging himself at an astonishing speed. Still, Ethan didn't look like he had any intention of giving up. At that point in time, the necromancer understood it… Ethan was a monster. A monster had been chosen to become a hero, and that idea was frightening… The necromancer couldn't defeat that monster, but he still didn't have the intention of giving up or letting himself be captured… it was time for plan B.

Ethan couldn't help but frown when he saw the necromancer breaking its staff in two. After that, the entire mountain began to tremble… everything started to make sense. An ordinary person couldn't store so much mana in their body, so the necromancer created a deposit of mana, and that deposit was the mountain itself.

"You know… that wasn't a good idea," Ethan said after a long sigh. "Why do something so stupid just when I was starting to respect you for not trying to run away?"

The mountain began to collapse, and several blocks of ice began to fall around Ethan and Hannah. She was exhausted since she used a lot of mana to prevent Ethan's body from collapsing and let him keep attacking the necromancer. However, Hannah still managed to evaporate the blocks that were falling right above her.

"Ethan, your mana options are over, and I won't have much mana left," Hannah declared.

"Can you still protect yourself and teleport us to outside this place in a few seconds?" Ethan asked.

"I can, but not for more than ten seconds," Hannah replied.

"It is more than enough," Ethan turned around and faced the necromancer again.

Things could have been solved very easily if Ethan had just let the mountain of ice fall on the necromancer, but he didn't want to risk it. Maybe the necromancer had some trump card and would be able to escape. Ethan couldn't count on Hannah's mana any longer, so he had to improvise. As much as he could buff his attacks, there was only so much Ethan could do in ten seconds. So, he just dragged the necromancer and his barrier around, making the idiot get hit by massive blocks of ice in just a few seconds. It was kind of hard to make them hit the spot he had hit before, but such worry was unnecessary. Without that staff, the mana pool of the necromancer had decreased exponentially. Thanks to it, all his mana was sucked after just five seconds while the barrier protected him from the ice. Without wasting any more time, Ethan grabbed him by the neck, and his Omni Hero power was activated.
