Chapter 128 128 – Nemesis

John concludes that he cannot escape this situation with mere talk. However, his fellow diplomats are still trying to do so.

"What do you mean, Miss Velvet?" Lowbell tried to sound calm. "We are representatives of the Durcia Kingdom. There's no way we'd bring a demon. This is sir Henry Kensington II, who comes from a distinguished noble family in our country and is one of our best army commanders."

"Oh, I believe you, sir." Velvet took a step forward, bringing the tip of her weapon closer to John's neck. "It's just, don't you consider that maybe your government is infiltrated…. Ah, I heard that there are survivors from the demon war among you all. Is that you, sir Henry Kensington II?"

John kept a straight face and then made his body many times shorter. That man passed by Velvet and Candice so quickly that they couldn't even react.

"It's a shapeshifter!" Candice shouted in shock.

"Soldiers! Keep the gentlemen here safe!" Velvet gave the order in a fast tone. "Candice, give me buffs!"

The prophet had already dashed out when her body was enveloped in that multi-colored light. However, John had already run far enough. The shapeshifter made his legs more muscular, multiplying his speed.

Even though she already got buffs from Candice, Velvet still lost in speed. In just a short time, her enemy had already drifted away through the building halls, triggering panic among the people.

Unwilling to give up, the prophet took a metal helmet from a soldier on patrol. She heated that thing with her hands, made it glow orange, and threw it.

John fell as soon as the helmet hit his leg, giving off immeasurable heat. Wasting no time, Velvet gave her enemy a barrage of rapier thrusts.

The shapeshifter had a hard time dodging the blazing sword attacks because of his injured leg. So, some of the thrust managed to graze several parts of his body.

He became covered with long, smoking burns. At this rate, he would lose.

So, in the last ditch effort, the shapeshifter jumped into an open window, even though they were on the fourth floor.

Velvet looked out and found John landed in the grass with a strange shape. His body looked so flat against the ground.

But slowly, he formed his body into a human being again.

"Damn it!" Velvet climbed up the window when she realized something.

The burns and slashes on the demon's body are now gone from his legs. All of the injuries moved to other parts of his body.

Yes, John is running normally again.

Velvet took a deep breath, gathering strength in her legs. Her eye color became bright orange, like something on fire. Then, she jumped as high as she could, as far as she could. Some of the bricks on the windowsill were shattered by the push of her feet.

That woman felt the strong wind in the cold air. And gradually, she felt the snowy ground in the yard getting closer to her.

And she managed to land successfully by rolling in the grass several feet in front of her enemy.

John had braked and changed his running course. However, Velvet swiftly jumped forward, pointing her rapier as much as possible at that man.

John fell down again because the attack pierced his left leg. He tried to crawl away, but the prophet stepped on the side of his head.

"Don't you feel pain, demon?" Velvet asked in a cold tone. "Or are you just pretending to be tough?"

John, now using his usual form, did not answer. His face also did not give any meaningful expression.

"So, are you Vorn's lackey?" The prophet asked again. However, she has yet to get another answer. "That's how you want to play, huh? We'll see how long you can endure this torment."

She raised her sword, which was glowing like embers. Meanwhile, John still showed no expression of pain or fear.

Even as Velvet pressed the tip of the sword against his cheek until it smoked, the shapeshifter still showed no reaction.

[Vorn's POV]

I sat on the balcony of a house while looking at a high mountain. This place was a kind of operation center for my subordinates assigned to the Durcia kingdom's capital.

My long-distance call with John got cut off a moment ago.

Just now, he explained that he was running away from Velvet Byrne while also informing me that the female prophet could detect demons.

Well, that would be very inconvenient for me, indeed. We will no longer be able to move freely in that neighboring country.

And it's a shame an agent as great as John has been beaten. He is one of my valuable assets.

Xenora came up to me carrying a tray containing two teacups. She frowned when she saw my face. "What's wrong, my lord?"

"John has fallen in the line of duty. What a pity, but we can't do anything. And it looks like the prophet will start to move."

"Ah…. We should be prepared then." The succubus placed the teacups on the table, sounding worried.

"Yeah, but we should focus on our plan to raid that research center first." Even though I said that, I still couldn't forget the prophet, even for a moment.

Yes, I do feel nervous for her. She is a prophet, after all. Someone who is fated to destroy me. However, one other feeling is growing inside me, triggering my heart rate to crawl up.

"Why are you smiling now, my lord?" Xenora stared at my face. "You looked really tense earlier, though."

"Well, it's getting exciting. I can't wait to meet the prophet."

It feels incomplete if a demon lord doesn't have a nemesis.

After various dramas like my woman being unconscious for a long time or absurd time travel, I will finally return to my path again as a demon lord.

Xenora smiled back, then I pulled her to sit on my lap. Her plump butt gave a pleasant sensation to my thighs.

"If you meet her, what will you do?" She asked while stroking my face. "You also want her?"

I chuckled at the succubus' words. "Well, you would be jealous?"

She rubbed her chin while looking up. "I don't know. But what's clear, I remember playing with you when Emily was around too. I didn't complain to you back then at the hot springs, did I?"

"You're right." I sneered. "Well, we'll see."
