181 Misjudgment

Flapping his wings to propel his body to the opposite side of the variant demon that he knew he couldn’t beat, the forest green humanoid was suddenly alarmed by feeling a huge density of nether suddenly appearing out of nowhere.

The forest green humanoid demon was tempted to turn his head back to see what had caused such abundant nether to gather. But knowing that his opponent had a few seconds ago, the forest green humanoid demon guessed that it was most likely another dark flame fireball, one that was very condensed to the point that it would probably erase his man-sized root with just a single hit.

So instead of checking the danger that he felt behind him, the forest green just focused on flapping his wings faster as he decided to outrun the fireball instead of blocking against it considering the amount of nether that he felt.

And despite the dark flame fireballs packing a literal huge punch that could take his life away, the forest green humanoid demon knew that the fireballs were not fast-moving enough to the point where he couldn’t dodge them.

Just like how he could use his spell and bend the roots to block the fireballs despite the roots movement weren’t anything instantaneous, the forest green humanoid demon bet on the speed of his wings to completely get away from the walking calamity behind him.

However, the decision to ignore the threat behind him turned out to be the wrong one as the forest green humanoid demon would have realized that the dense bundle of nether that he felt was in fact, not from the variant that he had been fighting with for the past few minutes.

And also, he would have known that the spells that were coming after him were not the slow-moving fireballs, but rather two bullet-speed bundles of darkness and flames.

Without even being able to complete the third flap of his wings, the forest green humanoid demon suddenly felt the connection he had with his own wings had been lost.

Before he could even think about how such a thing could happen to his own body part, a loud explosion in his ears, a searing pain in his wings, and a downward force pushing him to the ground had all hit the forest green humanoid demon’s being at the same time.

.....

“ARGHHH!” A scream of pain was all that he could do while his body lost the ability to fly.

With literally 70% of his wings having been destroyed and the rest were currently burning, the forest green humanoid demon couldn’t do anything other than to follow the downward force that was jerking his body toward the ground.

It was all happening in the frame of a split second, which was barely enough for his body to register what was happening, but the forest green humanoid demon certainly couldn’t miss the pain that he felt as even right now when his body was shot to the ground, his wings were lit on fire, sending countless pain signals to his brain.

And by the time his face crashed head onto the dirt ground outside the forest base, the first thing that came to the forest green humanoid demon’s mind was to put out the fire that was burning his wings by rolling left and right vigorously.

Though it required more effort than just simply rolling around, the forest green humanoid demon finally succeeded in putting out the fire on his wings by casting an earth elemental spell to squash the fire out of his wings.

He found out that rolling didn’t work, and the dark flame burning on his body was different than any ordinary flame as it couldn’t be extinguished simply by patting it or hitting it with his bare hands, hence he tried to use a demonic spell to hit the flame out of existence, which then succeeded.

However, the forest green humanoid demon found that out a little bit too late as now, about 90% of his wings were gone, exposing his bare back and what could be said to be stumps on his back, which were the remnants of his fully developed wings that could take him to the sky.

It was not only humiliating for him as now he looked more similar to the native of the first humanoid demon realm that didn’t have fully developed wings, but the pain that he had felt during the dark flames eating his wings was more memorable and had been etched deep to his mind and heart.

Outside the wall of the base that he had built for months, even a full year, the forest green humanoid demon stared straight at the wall of the base as he tried to pierce through the wall and glare at the variant type demon that he thought was responsible for doing this to him.

But his eyes soon darted up as a new figure came to his view, a humanoid-like creature that had smaller wings on his back, seemingly too small to hold the body that was slowly but surely floating down to the ground.

The forest green humanoid demon thought that he was looking at a silhouette when all he could see was darkness from the figure.

But as the figure drew closer and he could finally see the clothes that the figure was wearing, it was only now that he realized that the demon that he was looking at had jet-black skin, even darker than the color of the clothes that it was wearing.

The forest green humanoid demon stopped and stared at the incoming demon with his full attention put on the humanoid demon as he tried to make sense of what was currently happening.

The forest green humanoid demon was about to open his mouth and ask who was the demon that had just come out of nowhere from the sky as it was apparent enough that the demon was a humanoid demon, but he suddenly stopped when he saw the jet-black humanoid demon grabbed a few things from a pouch tied to his waist before throwing them to the sides.

He was startled beyond belief, questioning his eyes whether his eyes really saw what he had just seen, but his questions were soon answered as his eyes followed after the direction of the things that the jet-black humanoid demon had just thrown to the ground.

Simple constructs made out of wood fell to the ground around him, essentially putting him right in the middle of the wooden constructs. But his eyes were glued to the constructs while his body didn’t make a single move.

And that was because of the glowing rune formations that he saw being etched onto those wooden constructs.

The forest green humanoid demon might not be a runemaster, but he was smart and capable enough to recognize a rune formation when he stumbled upon one.

And now, with his own two eyes, he saw rune formations on those wooden constructs that were thrown by the jet-black humanoid demon.

“Who...”

The forest green humanoid demon’s words were cut off as the glow on the wooden constructs finally flashed, manifesting the spell that was contained inside the rune formations.

The forest green humanoid demon watched as the ground around him started to tremble for a split second before dark earth walls sprouted from the ground around him, surrounding him from all directions inside a dome that would soon close off the only way outside, from above.

Just right before the dark earth dome closed itself, the jet-black humanoid demon also went inside the dark earth dome, completely blending in with the total darkness as the dark earth dome fully closed in on itself, creating an isolated space that trapped both the forest green humanoid demon and the jet-black humanoid demon inside the dark empty space.

“Who... are... y-” The confused voice that echoed all over the closed space was once again cut off as there was suddenly light in the total darkness.

A few steps away from the forest green humanoid demon that was standing in the middle of the dome, dark flames started to light up the dark space as the jet-black humanoid demon’s body was now covered in those dark flames.

The dark flame just stayed burning on the jet-black humanoid demon’s body, seemingly swallowing the demon’s body whole.

But the jet-black humanoid demon didn’t run around in panic or even remotely try to turn off the flames that were covering his body from head to toe.

As if it was a part of himself or just another extra layer of skin, the jet-black humanoid demon stood confidently with his arms to the side, just staring calmly at the forest green humanoid demon’s eyes despite the flames flickering up and down every second.

Without a single word coming out of his mouth, the jet-black humanoid demon didn’t do anything other than just stood there and let the dark flames burn on his body, making the forest green humanoid who was standing only a few steps in front of him to feel a slight searing pain on his skin.

The forest green humanoid demon reflexively walked backward, trying to get away from the dark flame and prevent his skin from feeling the burning sensation due to being too close to the source of the dark flame.

And when the heat had barely become bearable did the forest green humanoid demon finally opened up his mouth to speak again.

“Who are you...?”
