Chapter 213 - Make It Right.

Knock knock!

"Mr. Ben-" one of his team stops his word when seeing his boss in a mess. There are a few drops of blood on the floor before he averts his eyes to the room condition. He gulped.

"Do you..need a medical team, sir?" He asked, and Brian sighs. "Get out. Don't look for me for now."

The man immediately bobbed his head and closed back the door. He doesn't know why, but he was sure that his boss is not in a good mood. He came because he wants to report to him about the new program that his team just discovered, but it seems like it has to wait.

While inside the room, Brian wrapped his hand with a bandage. He hurt his hand pretty bad when he punches on the glass table before it shattered and ruin. The floor is full of glass shards, and his action didn't help him mend his heart at all.

He doesn't know why, but he could see himself in her memories. So cruel and why hasn't he saw it? It's right that we can't see ourselves in our view, but when we saw it, we can see how cruel we are to other eyes.

No wonder she hates him and always looks at him with hatred. He saw how hard she faced the training, how miserable her life, and how often she cry and break down. It's all because of him. Because he too obsessed with Lisa and forgot about her feelings.

He knows she had feelings for him but still treats her like trash. He was a bad guy, isn't he? He even saw the memory of when Lisa visited her in prison. To see such a disappointed face, he was so ashamed. He did not break one heart, but maybe two or three.

He rubs his face with both of his hands. "Fuck, I'm so messed up."

Creak!

"Oh, you just know now?" Madeline walks inside his room. Looking at the shattered glass on the floor, a broken laptop and a few other devices are on the floor too. She could guess that he look into Caitlin's memory.

"Mom..what are you doing here?" He asked.

"Checking on you. I got a report that you instruct your doctor not to give my agent a sedative while doing her surgery." Madeline stands in front of him while crossing her arm around her chest. Like asking his explanation.

"Yes, I did. But then I give morphine after-"

Pap!! Madeline swallows hard while shutting her eyes. This is the first time she slaps her own son.

"You put your feelings first while conducting hazardous surgery. Even if you hate Caitlin that much, please remember, she's my agent. Putting her life at risk…you think this is funny?"

Brian clenched his jaw and lowered his head. He knows it's his fault, if only he let it slide and ignore her insulting, maybe this won't happen and he won't bother either to look up at her memory.

"I don't want to know about your grudge toward her, but don't hurt her anymore. You've damage enough her life, aren't you happy yet? I thought you'd change after you lost your obsession, but I guess I was wrong."

Brian did not reply to his mother, and he just stares at the floor blankly. He knows he was wrong.

"Finish up her device and do not ever cross with my agent again. Do you understand me, Mr. Benedict?" Madeline uses her authoritative voice, which Brian then nods his head. Not a single word was let out from his mouth.

Only after she receives his agreement, Madeline walks out of the room. Leaving his son, who then flumps on the couch. Covering his face with his arm and drowning in his guilty feelings.

A few days later,

Brian finish with the new device. It doesn't have to plant it to her cervical nerves anymore. She just needs to synchronize it with her retina, and the device will open itself into her bangle shape.

She also will get a new feature of vision where she can saw through a floor plan each building she points her view at. Night vision added to help her fight at nighttime, and she still can interact with Eli like before. And for his downtime to get the information is faster than before.

When she wants to retrieve her device back, she had to deal with Brian again. This time, it's only the three of them: Caitlin, Brian, and one of Brian's programmers.

"Sit down," Brian said, and Caitlin does as he spoke. Since she already got warned by Flynn, she did not dare not to obey his instructions.

She sits straight and lets Brian check on her neck wound. It's still hurt and swollen a bit. He gently touches on her neck. "Have you apply it with the medicine they provide to you?" He asked and checked on the stitches.

Everything looks okay, it just the swollen that still look bad. "Yes, sir." Brian startled with her reply. She didn't even look at him at all.

"Can you eat properly? Does it hurt anywhere?"

"No, sir." Brian nodded and signaled his programmer to explain the device to her. At the same time, he wrapped the bandages back on her neck after reapplying a medicine on the wound. It's to reduce the scar on her neck.

The process to sync her retina with the device doesn't take long, and she had to test it first before she can fully retrieve it back. She was quite happy when she doesn't have to plant the chip in her body again.

She still can communicate with Eli like before, and he still can across her mind as before and assist her in fighting mode more better. The only problem is..she needs to protect her bangle from damage since the chip already moves out from her body. Like before, even if her device was damaged, she still can communicate with Eli, but this time, if her bangle damaged, she only left with an override option.

Override is an emergency procedure in which Eli will take full control of her body to get her out of that dangerous situation. If she were left with no option, Eli would execute a procedure to wipe all of her memory and send her SOS location to the headquarter.

It was requested by the government to protect their secret from the leak to the enemy's hands.

Upon hearing the explanation, Caitlin was seriously paid attention and listen to it very carefully. It's like, Eli can be your best friend, and at the same time, he can be your nightmare too, especially when the override is taking over.

Once she's done with testing the device, she was released from the base.

"Caitlin.." Brian stop her from leaving the room.

Stop her pace. She looks at Brian with an ease position. "Yes, sir?"

"Let me send you home." He said, and Caitlin scrunches her eyebrow a bit.

"Thank you very much for your offer, sir. However, I must turn it down. I have my car, sir." She replies and still with her 'working' tone.

"That's fine. I can send people to drive your car back. Just…come on." He said, and Caitlin stands still. She doesn't know how to deal with this guy anymore.

"I have something to say to you." Brian looked at her again. Reassuring her that he would not bully her or do something inappropriate to her.

Caitlin still doubted him before she slightly nods her head. She then follows Brian to his car and let him drive her home.

She lives not far from the headquarter, and her home was elementary and not many things inside it.

"Thank you." She said and unbuckled the seat belt. But before she opens the door, Brian holds her arm.

"Wait." he stops her, and she slowly pulls her hand from his grip.

"I have something I want to say." Brian lean back, and Caitlin looks at the front of the car. Waiting for him to say what he wants to say.

"First…I'm sorry."

She arched her eyebrow, still silent.

"For hurting you and let you go through all the hardship. I was selfish and ignorant and..bad." When he saw there's no response from her, he continues again.

"So…I've been thinking to make it right." He took out a small box from the dashboard and gave it to her hand.

"Let's get married."

Scoffed, Caitlin throws it back the box to his laps. "I don't wanna. Thanks for sending me home, Ben. Let's not meet again or, rather, if we had to meet, just act like we're stranger. Its better that way."

"Caitlin, wai-"

Bam! She closed the door and went up to her house.
