The next morning Yue helped Murong Shao wrap himself up like a mummy. Holding his hand, he led him to the other prison base. So many eyes lingered on them along the way but Yue did not even wish to cast a glance at them.
The moment they entered the secondary base the kids came running out shouting and screaming for him. Seeing Murong Shao's bandaged-up state they glared at him deeply.
Yue held up his arms. "I didn't do anything to him okay."
Chuckling, Murong Shao removed a few of the bandages covering his face. "I'm fine guys. These are just for show. In fact, I've completely healed thanks to Yue. Oh, and he is my cousin brother." He pulled Yue close by his hand and introduced every single one in there.
in total there were at least fifty children ranging from fifteen to five. The other inhabitants of the prison base were prisoners of this place who had done petty crimes. They had adapted well with the kids and were the ones managing the food and other things.
Yue was astonished by the reactions Murong Shao had on people. they loved him so much. Not just love they respected him like a leader. Even Fan was not able to get this reaction.
He sighed loudly. 'We might not have the greatest management system but at least we helped a few thousands of people survive two years in this mess.' he consoled himself.
"Yue come here. Let me show you around," he took him along to look around.
Yue had already looked around, but he did not know that there was an underground level to this prison complex. Inside, he saw a big field of corn growing so lushly. They had substituted the lack of sunlight with grow lights connected to solar sheets on the rooftop.
Murong Shao plucked out mature corn and handed it to him. "This is the only reason we allowed him in here again."
Yue removed the husk and took a look. The corn had a tinge of purplish lines running down the side. "it's like the ones we developed."
"Our lead scientist found a mutant variety of wheat and corn and bred them. These look just like those. look at the purple line on the sides they have the same characteristics. Shao when did you meet this scientist of yours."
"Maybe a year into the apocalypse." Murong Shao frowned. "Is he someone you know of?"
He shook his head. Only Qian and Prisitsky were their lead scientist. they did have assistants with them but they were people he didn't know. "I'll ask around if our people know of him."
After going around the fields Murong Shao took him to the pastures. They had a dozen cows with weird red patches on them. They seem to have the same mutation as his pets.
"They produce a few liters of milk every day. The kids really benefited from it. they all grew tall in a year," Shao proudly smiled.
At last, they reached the place Yue feared to enter. He stood by the isolation room gates. "I have been here.. I."
"She didn't kill you?!" Murong Shao looked at him in utter shock.
"No… does she kill people?"
"yeah, she doesn't like people." Murong Shao walked in.
Yue hesitantly followed after him. That overwhelming feeling from last time did not attack them.
"Shao~ Shao~" a childish voice called for him.
"Lilly, how are you kid? Do you feel good?" he casually walked through the line-up of zombies to the door. Looking at the melted lock, he looked back. "you guys did this?"
"Yeah, she kind of tried to kill us…." Yue sheepishly grinned.
"Shao~ Shao! Hungry~" the little girl cried again.
Shao opened the small feeding flap and looked in. "our princess is awake so early? How are doing dear?"
"hungry~" she said in a cute tone.
"Brother will bring you food wait a bit okay?" he walked up to Yue and whispered. "Can you guys open this door? She really doesn't like being stuck in there"
"I'll ask tian to melt it off." Yue apologetically looked at him.
Murong Shao walked out but before he left, he made sure to wrap himself in bandages. "Do you want to come with me to capture some zombies? It's actually harder than you think. They run away for us like sewer rats."
They had three cars parked in the back.
Yue and Shao took the van along with a few borrowed weapons from the soldiers and headed out of the prison base.
Looking at the dust-covered road and abandoned highway Yue was perplexed when they were in their base, they had to constantly clean up their walls from all that corpses. The zombies did not even give them a second break.
Level four zombies included would attack them with their abilities. But thanks to that, their warriors had developed so much that they were able to fight off at least twenty level fours per person.
Murong Shao's base on the other hand seems quite green.
"Did you ask the kids about leaving?"
"They want to but I'm not sure how we are going to move Lilly. She gets stressed out a lot when we try to move her."
Yue thought about it for a second. "Have you tried getting her a pet or a toy? It works well with my kids."
Murong suddenly laughed softly. "you're such a good dad, Yue… how are the kids by the way?"
"They are doing good. Zara is the one who is flourishing from all the attention from my parents." Yue smiled tenderly remembering his family.
The car dove slowly over to the main roads. it was zombie free for almost ten kilometers. Yue was so surprised by the abandoned roads.
This time he had already spotted a few zombies roaming around.
"that's a good crowd..." Murong Shao suddenly grinned.
But to his surprise, he watched them run away after seeing their car.
