Chapter 28.3: Put me down first.

The boy was still trying to remember what had happened, but after he looked up, he saw that the girl was gone.

Hu Xixi ran to the door of the nurse’s office and stopped, patting her heart and trying to calm her heartbeat.

Hu Xixi glanced inside; the pink curtains were pulled aside, and Xu Sui was lying on the patient bed while taking drips. She closed her eyes tightly, her face was pale, and she couldn’t hide the exhaustion under her long dark eyelashes.

Hu Xixi was about to step in until she accidentally met Zhou Jingze’s eyes.

Zhou Jingze leaned his back against the wall lazily. Bending one of his long legs, he played with a lighter with one hand; he glanced at Hu Xixi with his thin eyelids.

There was no emotion at all.

Hu Xixi didn’t dare to move. She was terrified by Zhou Jingze’s glance and licked her lips before asking dryly, “Uncle, are you okay?”

“What do you think?” Zhou Jingze said slowly, asking her a question back with a smile on the corner of his lips.

Just as Hu Xixi was about to answer, Zhou Jingze suddenly turned cold, and the lazy expression on his face disappeared utterly. He looked at her:

“How do you judge people?”

Zhou Jingze rarely gets angry, but when he does, he won’t show it. Many of the times, he won’t bother to say anything but turn around and leave.

Ever since they were young, he has spoiled this niece of his, taking care of her and never getting angry with her.

This time, Hu Xixi realized he was furious and apologized meekly: “I’m sorry.”

Xu Sui was lying on the patient bed and woke up from her sleep by a loud noise. She opened her eyes and saw that Zhou Jingze was being hard on Hu Xixi.

“Xixi, come in,” Xu Sui smiled at her, “I’m fine.”

Hu Xixi wanted to come in, but she glanced at her uncle subconsciously.

Zhou Jingze softened, and his thin lips finally said: “Come in.”

“You guys talk. I’ll go buy a pack of cigarettes outside.” Zhou Jingze stood up straight and put the lighter in his pocket.

After Zhou Jingze left, Hu Xixi’s nervous tensions finally calmed down, and complained, “It’s really scary when he gets angry.”

“Xu Sui, are you okay?” Hu Xixi asked with a bitter face, “I’m sorry, I asked you to help, but I went to chase after people.”

Xu Sui shook her head: “It’s only acute gastroenteritis. I should be fine after the drips.”

“Do you know the match results?” Xu Sui suddenly remembered and asked.

“Oh, that, I went to the basketball court just now and asked; it seems that my uncle and the others lost… ”

When Zhou Jingze came back, Xixi had already left. He said he was going out to buy cigarettes, but he was carrying white porridge in his hand.

“Eat this later.” Zhou Jingze pointed to the porridge on the table.

“Okay, thank you.” Xu Sui said.

Zhou Jingze’s long legs hooked a chair, and he sat down in front of Xu Sui’s bed, pouring a glass of water for her.

Xu Sui held the water glass and hesitated for a long time: “I’m sorry.”

Zhou Jingze was playing with his phone, head down; his thumb was still resting on the game interface. When Xu Sui said that, he was stunned for a second and smiled:

“Why are you suddenly apologizing?”

“It’s because I suddenly fainted, so you didn’t compete, you…you shouldn’t have cared about me at the time…”

At first, Xu Sui’s voice was quite normal, but then Zhou Jingze heard her voice getting shakier and shakier.

Zhou Jingze didn’t care about the game he was playing and closed the screen. He raised his head, and the corner of his thin lips curved:

“I’ve won so many times that I want to experience the feeling of losing.”

“It wasn’t because of you.” Zhou Jingze comforted her.

The way that he comforted her made Xu Sui want to cry even more. She looked at the person in front of her with red eyes:

“Do you think I’m dumb?”

Zhou Jingze raised his eyebrows and sighed lightly. Even when comforting, he didn’t know what to do with this girl, he had no choice but to divert her attention.

Zhou Jingze stood up and raised his hand to adjust the speed of the infusion tube. He glanced at her hand:

“Hand out.”

“Huh?” Xu Sui said while crying, her tone a little flustered.

Xu Sui’s reaction succeeded in making Zhou Jingze look at her with a faint smile. The sloppy and careless gesture in his eyes appeared again.

Xu Sui’s face became hot, and she lowered her head and wiped away her tears in a hurry. A chuckle rang from the top of her head, making one’s throat itchy:

“Okay, I won’t tease you anymore.”

Then, Xu Sui felt a shadow fall in front of her; Zhou Jingze bent down, and the chilly smell of mint and basil was on the tip of Xu Sui’s nose. She felt his hot breath on her neck. Xu Sui froze, and her body felt itchy and numb, her heart beating uncontrollably.

Zhou Jingze took her hand naturally. His palm was wide and cold, lightly against the back of Xu Sui’s delicate hand. He whispered:

“Hold it.”
