Chapter 89 - Slow waves

A light breeze played in the pristine curtain, creating intricate geometrical designs as it moved. Birds chirped on the window seal. Caressing the sheet with my hand next to me I searched for my mates. I blinked the sleep away and opened my eyes to a bright sunny day. A smile appeared on my lips as I gazed at the blue sky behind the translucent white curtain.

"Good morning," said a familiar voice on my left. I turned and saw Demos with a loving grin looking down at me. On a chair, a little further sat Grant. I jumped out of bed and threw my arms around Demos' neck. He chuckled at my burst of emotion.

"I was so scared," I sobbed. "I-I thought I'd lose you," Grant wrapped his arms around both of us. I instantly felt our triangle, complete. "Grant... yo-you were gone. I was hopeless," I added.

"It's ok, I'll always find you," whispered Grant. "I'll always find both of you," he closed his eyes and smiled. I was peaceful for the first time in my life. In their arms, the pieces clicked together.

"Thanks for saving me," I muttered. Both looked up, each different in their unique way and yet complementary. There was no need for words. I could feel it through our link. They smiled at the same time. My heart swelled with a mixture of pure bliss and agony. Grant reached his hand and brushed my cheek with his thumb.

"You don't gauge the impact of each of your words," his silver eyes glittered in the morning light. They shone like jewels like he was crying. Grant stepped away to give me space to breathe but not Demos.

"Demos?" I stroked his hair, they were clean, the sand gone. He shook his head refusing to let go. Grant chuckled he walked to the door then paused.

"You must be hungry, I'll run to the cafeteria. Is there anything special I can get you?" he asked over his shoulder.

"A margarita and peanuts?" he narrowed his eyes at me.

'I don't think they serve alcohol to sick patients," he said dryly. I laughed and still Demos wouldn't release his embrace. Grant exit before I could add another word.

"Hey, you can let go now. I'm not running away," I gently stroke his hair. They were not in their usual style, his hair was a little wet unevenly brushing over his forehead. He lifted his head and gazed at me.

-I'm sorry

"Hey, it's ok. I should be the one apologizing. I terribly need to excise. From now on, I promise to get fit," he chuckled with starry amber eyes. I melted into them. Demos angled his face and I gave up fighting. Our lips touched in an explosion of fireworks. The bed creaked under our weight as he pushed me into the soft sheets.

"Demos!" I fought. The bed groaned making us pause. Demos pushed away from me in one leap. I giggled and hide my face in my pillow. I rose up on one elbow and glared at him.

"You..." I burst into laughter. "You almost broke the bed," he tried Grant's puppy eyes and damn that was cute. However totally different from Grant's. I pulled the pillow from under my head and threw it at him. He caught it effortlessly.

"You seduced me and I lost control," he feinted innocence. I narrowed my eyes at him but couldn't help smiling back. The door opened and Grant came in with a tray full.

"What's going on, I can hear you from the corridor," I pulled the large white T-shirt I was wearing neatly over my thighs and grinned. I quickly pushed aside the fact someone changed my clothes while I was unconscious. I won't go down that road to ruin my happy moment.

Demos leaned next to the window with his hands behind his back while Grant placed the tray filled with goodies over my lap. My pillow sat at the end of the bed. I eyed it then turned back to Grant.

"Here you go. Fresh orange juice, some toast with peanut butter and fruits," I rubbed my hands together with delight.

"Thanks, honey," he dropped a peck over my forehead and sat on the chair next to the bed.

"So what's the plan? I vaguely remembered you saying everyone was saved," I bit in the toast and looked up to find their good mood drain from their faces. Shouldn't I have asked about it? Something was definitely wrong. "What?" I washed the toast down with juice. Demos crossed his arms over his chest and lowered his gaze. That was not a good sign. Grant leaned forward and linked his fingers together.

"The boat..." he paused. "There are several clues that point to the conclusion that it was sabotaged," I almost choke on the slice of apple. I coughed and frowned at Grant. He got up from his seat to assist me. But I waved his away.

"What? By whom?" he settled back on his chair and shook his head. Grant sighed and ran a hand in his hair, brushing it away from his face.

"Liliane, whatever is happening on this island is something bigger than us. We should be very careful. We can't trust everyone," he said very slowly. I pushed the food away, my hunger was gone. He took my left hand in his and our eyes locked.

"We are the only one we can rely on. Whatever happens here, we three, are a family," he stroked the ring on my finger. My eyes followed his movement. I nodded at him and squeezed his hand.

"Yes, you are both my family," I looked up and found Demos walked to the other side of my bed. I reached for him and he took my hand.

"We will always be together," he kissed my fingers.

"Promised?" I dared to hope. They smiled at my hesitant tone.

"Promise," both said at the same time. I was invaded with a warmth oozing from the center of my chest. It spread throughout my body to my hands linked to them. They watching lovingly over me. I knew somehow, we would make it trough. If we are together, it will be ok.
