After going to the bank, Shen Dai just wanted to see Qu Moyu right away. But Qu Moyu could be busy anywhere at this time. He also wouldn’t go home so early.

Shen Dai grabbed the phone and hesitated for half a minute but still sent a WeChat message to Qu Moyu: Are you busy? I’m done with everything.

After sending it, he regretted it. He was worried that he would disturb Qu Moyu while he was working.

Seeing that he was about to arrive home, Shen Dai asked tentatively, “Assistant Cheng, do you know where Mr. Qu is right now? Is he in the company?”

“I’ll take a look at his schedule.” Cheng Ruoze opened the memo and looked at his watch again, “Right now he should be in Huize Building, meeting a client.”

“Is there a dinner party tonight?”

“No. I try to avoid arranging dinner parties lately. Alpha eats a lot before the susceptible period, so it’s inconvenient for people to take notice of it at the dinner table.”

“Okay.” In this way, Qu Moyu should go home early so he would wait for him at home.

Cheng Ruoze sent Shen Dai to Qu’s house, and the two said goodbye. Shen Dai got out of the car and watched the business car that had just driven out turned around the corner to leave but turned back.

Shen Dai thought that he had left something. The car window came down, Cheng Ruoze grinned: “I just received a call from President Qu. He asked me to take you to him.”

Shen Dai’s eyes lit up, but he immediately realized that his surprised expression must look stupid. He hurriedly lowered his head and got into the car. After sitting firmly, he looked at his phone. Qu Moyu didn’t reply to him, but he should have seen his message. The corners of his lips couldn’t help but rise. Obviously, the two of them lived under the same roof and could meet at night but he would still be overjoyed to see his sweetheart a few hours earlier.

The car drove to Huize Building. The two waited in the car for half an hour. Qu Moyu and a few subordinates walked out through the revolving door. Shen Dai was wondering why Lao Wu didn’t come to pick him up. Qu Moyu walked over and got in the business car.

Shen Dai looked at him with a smile: “You’re done for the day?”

As soon as Qu Moyu sat down, he inserted his fingers into the tie buckle and loosened the silk tie that had bound him for a day: “I want to take you somewhere.”

“Where?”

Qu Moyu smiled mysteriously: “Let’s keep it a secret for now.”

“Mr. Qu, I’ll leave first.” Cheng Ruoze said respectfully.

“Go on. You worked hard today.”

“It’s not hard work. See you tomorrow, Mr. Qu.”

“Hmm.”

Cheng Ruoze and the driver got out of the car at the same time. Shen Dai looked at Qu Moyu quizzically.

“We’ll change the car and wait for Lao Wu to come over.”

Shen Dai took Qu Moyu’s hand, looked into his eyes and said softly, “Thank you very much for the house. But I have something to tell you.”

Qu Moyu looked at him quietly.

“Actually, I don’t want such a gift. It will put a psychological burden on me. Maybe you think that I married you for You Xinghai’s money and it’s too hypocritical for me to say that it’s not. But I just weighed the option because of my grandmother’s health and that her old age is more important than my dignity. And now I have the ability to repay the mortgage and support my family at the same time as an adult. I should support my life by myself. I know you want to be good to me, I am very grateful for your kindness to me, okay? But you’ve helped me enough.” Shen Dai held Qu Moyu’s hand with both hands and rubbed it carefully, “Of course I want the career benefits you mentioned before, but I don’t want to rely on you. I can get it myself. That is the future I want to achieve through hard work and I hope that when you give it to me one day, it is because I have that ability.”

Qu Moyu’s sharp eyes carefully explored the person in front of him. After several rounds of eye contact, he could only see magnanimity and sincerity in Shen Dai’s eyes.

There are two types of omegas around him. One is the bright profit-making, trying to get as much as possible from him when getting along with him. The other is with the morality of wanting to put a long line to catch big fish. He only rewards the sober former and he still plays around with the omegas he dislikes just for fun.

But Shen Dai is an exception. From various meanings and perspectives, he is an exception. Shen Dai is the first person to be admired by him, and this appreciation is precisely regardless of gender. He purely appreciates him as a person, of social competitiveness, dual quotient, character and his way of life.

He has been investigating Shen Dai. And now, the more he feels that this person is suitable to stay by his side for a long time.

He held Shen Dai’s hand instead, with a smile in his eyes: “I understand what you mean. I also believe in your ability. At the same time, you can also calmly accept my kindness to you. But next time, I will ask your opinion first.”

Shen Dai secretly breathed a sigh of relief. For the past few hours, he has been thinking about how to say these words so that he can express his thoughts without disappointing Qu Moyu. He knew that the money was just a small gift for Qu Moyu, but he tried his best to balance his self-esteem a little bit in this relationship. Even if he unilaterally loved an S-class alpha, this kind of extreme inequality is bound to be a test on his mentality. On the road to success, mentality determines victory or defeat—whether it’s about career or love.

Shen Dai leaned over and kissed Qu Moyu. His eyes were full of smiles. Every time the waves flowed, he was full of affection that he dared not speak.

Qu Moyu also kissed him on the cheek and the two smiled at each other.

At this time, Lao Wu came. Qu Moyu said “go to the school”.

Half an hour later, Lao Wu drove to No. 1 Primary School.

This school is well-known in the city and even in the whole country. It is one of the first primary schools to be established. It is located in the central area of a piece of land. There are old cadre buildings nearby. You can see guards on duty when you pass by the communities here. Regardless of its old campus, its enrollment rate ranks among the top three in the country, and those who can enter this school must either have top minds or have lots of money.

“This is where you go to school?” Shen Dai asked.

“Hmm.” Qu Moyu opened the car door, “No parking is allowed here. Let’s go.”

The two got out of the car, and Shen Dai asked curiously, “Are you taking me to visit your alma mater?” It’s been a long time since school was over, and there were still three or five students on the road, with childish faces in front of them. After passing by, Shen Dai couldn’t help but imagine Qu Moyu wearing this school uniform, looking like a young boy full of vitality.

He really wanted to see it. He must have looked tender and cute. Maybe he was a little stubborn. Thinking about it, Shen Dai’s heart is inexplicably excited.

“No, we can’t get in.” Qu Moyu raised his chin across the street, “I’ve been craving beef noodles from that shop these days.”

Shen Dai followed his gaze. It was an old noodle restaurant. It was not small in size, but the decoration was very simple. Since it was located opposite the school, the main consumer group must be students, so there were large stickers on the windows. The price tag is  ¥15 for one bowl of classic beef noodles.

Shen Dai was stunned for a moment. He was used to Qu Moyu’s breakfast with  ¥2,000 per gram of white truffle. He used a stove of more than  ¥100,000 to cook vegetables. When he looked at the noodle restaurant, he would inevitably feel a sense of disbelief.

When crossing the road, Qu Moyu naturally took Shen Dai’s hand. Shen Dai stared at the back of Qu Moyu’s head. He formed a happy smile on his face. He suddenly felt that Qu Moyu had a human touch to him.

The two entered the noodle restaurant, and Qu Moyu skillfully asked for a bowl of beef noodles and added an extra portion of meat: “What do you want?”

“The same as you.”

“I won’t eat just one bowl. You can try other flavours.” Qu Moyu thought about it carefully, “The beef with pickled cabbage is also delicious.”

Shen Dai smiled and said, “Okay.”

The two found a corner and sat down. Qu Moyu looked around, “This place has been renovated several times and it is much cleaner than before.”

“Did you eat here often when you were in school?”

“Occasionally. My dad won’t let me eat casually outside.” Qu Moyu’s eyes seemed to be covered with a layer of mist and memories travelled in it, “At that time, the younger I was, the more he wouldn’t let me eat outside. Naturally, it made me want to eat it more. This noodle is really delicious.”

The two bowls of noodles came up to their table and Shen Dai hurriedly tasted it: “Well, it’s really delicious.” The soup is fragrant and slightly spicy while the noodles are soft and tender. It is a good bowl of noodles.

Qu Moyu also took a bite, with a faint smile on his face: “The taste hasn’t changed at all. But when I was in school, it was only five yuan a bowl.”

“Did you go to eat with your classmates?” Shen Dai wanted to know more about Qu Moyu. When people revisited their nostalgic places, it was easy to open their hearts to the past.

“Yes.” Qu Moyu paused, “sometimes with my mother.”

Shen Dai was surprised: “Madam ate this too?” In fact, he was even more surprised that the mother and son, who were now alienated like ordinary relatives, once had the experience of sitting together in a street shop eating noodles.

“I was still young at that time and my mother sometimes sent me to school.” Qu Moyu glanced at Shen Dai, “Do you think that my relationship with her is not like an ordinary mother and son?”

Shen Dai didn’t know how to answer. He didn’t want Qu Moyu to think that he liked to inquire about his privacy, but he did have questions.

“She doesn’t like me.” Qu Moyu’s expression was as indifferent as he was describing the weather, “It’s just that she had to take care of me when I was young.”

Shen Dai stared blankly at Qu Moyu. After a long while, he asked, “Why?” Why would someone dislike their own S-class alpha son?

“She was pregnant with a beta girl before me and my dad forced her to get rid of it.” There was a hint of sarcasm on Qu Moyu’s face, “At that time, my uncle gave birth to an A-level alpha daughter. My dad couldn’t accept it if his first child is a useless beta.”

Shen Dai was silent. He suddenly understood where Madam Qu’s grievances came from.

However, Qu Moyu returned to his calm expression: “I don’t know why I want to eat these noodles today. The appetite before the susceptible period is very abnormal. It’s really troublesome.”

Shen Dai clenched his chopsticks. He wondered if that little Qu Moyu would be happy for a long time because he could eat a bowl of ordinary beef noodles with his mother before he became a powerful and cold S-class alpha.

*Translator’s note: Thank you for all the ‘good luck’ wishes! I managed to send in two research papers. I hope I can let my prof be happy for a while hahaha.

I can’t help but understand how affected Qu Moyu is due to his upbringing. I think he is somewhat psychologically damaged as a child being treated coldly by his mother while his father put high expectations on him. No wonder he became so ‘emotionless’. -K
