Chapter 74 - When Are We Going To Have...?

After Su Chen and Su Xiang left, Long Jie and Song Luli were left with two guests at their home.

Lan Shufen and Song Zhen joined them for dinner, but Song Luli wondered why her friend barely said a word while sitting next to her.

Song Zhen then caught them up about his school term away from the city. He gave them details about his practices, cases, and exams. And he seemed very passionate about what he was doing.

Song Luli was happy for him. He always had a keen eye for picking up details, using elaborate thinking to solve problems. Song Zhen was someone she always admired, and some part of her didn't take the time to settle it in. Without her older sister's disinheritance, without Song Zhen walking away from the chance of being a CEO, Song Luli may not have reached the point of her life that she was in.

She wondered, would she still have crossed paths with Long Jie if she never took over Song Entertainment? Would there ever be a chance for them?

Song Luli shook her thoughts away, trying to pay attention to Long Jie and Song Zhen's immersive conversation.

After dinner, Lan Shufen left the house.

"We have a guest room prepared for you," Song Luli told her brother.

"Thank you," replied Song Zhen. "But I want to visit Meiling first. Can I borrow your car?"

Song Luli went to pick up her car keys, tossing them to him. He caught them and said, "I will be back."

He drove out of the vast property when he noticed the only person waiting at a transit stop. He slowed down, rolling down his window. "Isn't it late to be taking the transit?" he asked Lan Shufen.

Lan Shufen shook her head. "No," she replied.

"But the metro system is unreliable at this hour and in this part of town, do you want a ride?" he asked her.

Lan Shufen looked at him skeptically. "It's all right. I can wait," she said. Song Zhen smiled.

"Are you sure?" Song Zhen responded playfully.

Song Zhen used a gentle tone when he spoke to her, which was different from when he was talking to his family—and perhaps it had nothing to do with who he was speaking with, but rather when to use different tones. From what she's observed, he's cold and blunt when it comes to his profession, but considerate during every other moment.

Lan Shufen then narrowed her eyes and pressed her lips together. She then hopped into the passenger seat of the car, fastening her seatbelt. He began to speak as they drove away.

"Do you play any games?" Song Zhen asked.

"Yes," she answered.

His lips curled. "Good," he said.

The rest of the car ride was silent. Song Zhen dropped her off home and waited in the car until he saw her go into her apartment. He then sped off, heading to his old home.

...

Long Jie prepared the bed for them to lie down.

Song Luli preferred to sit on the mattress to do some work to prevent her back issues from worsening, due to sitting on the chair for many hours each day.

Long Jie joined her, working right next to her.

Song Luli then pulled out her laptop, outlining her future projects.

She began to feel sleepy after a few hours as the night deepened; she rubbed her eyes, yawning. She put her laptop aside, turning off the lamp next to her side of the bed. Long Jie did the same, turning off the twin lamp on his side.

He shifted next to her under the sheets, scooping her in his arms. Song Luli closed her eyes, attempting to fall asleep when she felt Long Jie squeeze her tightly, leaning over, kissing her on the cheek. He showered her with gentle and playful kisses. Song Luli flushed, turning her head slightly, grinning. "What's with you?" she asked.

Long Jie ran up her leg, diving a hand underneath her nightshirt, caressing her naval. "I can't kiss you?" he questioned huskily.

Song Luli shivered when she felt his cold fingers sweep across her skin. "It's not that," she said hoarsely.

"Then what?" Long Jie asked softly, sliding his hand down.

"Zhen will return anytime now," she reminded him, her voice grew soft.

"The door is locked," Long Jie told her.

"And the walls are thin," Song Luli replied.

Long Jie let out a heavy sigh, pulling away from her. He toppled over the sheets. "Can I ask you something?" he said to her.

Song Luli flipped over, facing him. "Sure. What is it?"

"When are we going to have sex?" he asked straightforwardly.

Eh?

Dumbfounded, Song Luli stilled for a few moments. The circuits in her brain seemed to have malfunctioned for a moment, trying to register his words. Her face then reddened, spreading to her ears. She took a long good look at Long Jie, and he was serious.

"You're the one that gave me the, 'no sex unless we want kids,' speech," Song Luli teased.

Long Jie's eyes widened slightly. He forgot about that. "Oh, right," he began, "but that was before I told you that I liked you."

Song Luli was taken aback. The blush on her face deepened when he mentioned it so casually. It wasn't long since he told her of his feelings, and when she confessed that what he felt reciprocated. Her feelings for him grew each day—and like always, it both excited and terrified her. But she liked Long too much to let him slip from her fingers.

They were both growing, and parts of her were falling for him. And she hated to admit that she was falling in love; she hated the idea of falling because if there isn't anyone there to catch her, then she'll hit the end of the pit, never crawling out.

She embarrassed herself once, and allowing herself to do that again would be her fault.

She bent down towards his face, capturing his lips. "Soon," she promised. Indeed. She wasn't sure if he loved her as much as she loved him. But she was determined to delve the courage to confess, and if he returns those same feelings, then, and only then, will they make love.

"I'll wait," he whispered. Just as I always had, Long Jie thought.
