Prologue: Heroes and Witches

A boy and a girl were on a battlefield that had turned into a desolate mess.

They both looked about fifteen or sixteen years old. However, despite their youthful appearance, the two of them were powerful enough to affect the fate of this world.

“……So, you’ve already learned to curse me.”

The silver-haired girl who cursed this world and caused various disasters. A witch.

“Of course. Because I was chosen to exorcise your curse.”

The blond-haired boy who answered the question was the strongest hero who was responsible for saving this world.

“If it’s……then you don’t have to worry anymore.”

Their clothes were ripped and their bodies were covered with wounds as a result of intense fighting. The same goes for the surrounding terrain; what had been a thick forest just a moment ago had turned into a desolate wasteland.

“It’s over. Or do you still want to?”

“……No, I have no reason to fight you anymore. So let me finish.”

The witch closed her eyes and said quietly.

“Just killing me won’t exorcise the curse that is doing this world in. Don’t forget that. If you don’t exorcise the curse that lies at the root of this world, the calamity that strikes people will not stop.”

“……Oh, I know. I’ve heard that one a million times.”

The witch’s eyes were emotionless. But, the witch continued.

“With your power, I’m sure you’ll be able to save this world soon. You can defeat me. So if you’re here, I have no reason to live anymore.”

Kill me, the witch wished.

The hero swung the pure white sword in his hand and asked the witch.

“Can I finally ask you why?”

The witch started talking. What did she think about, what did she live for, and what would she die for? She spun the words with her innate beautiful voice. She told the boy about the life of a witch – or rather, a girl.

“I’ll take care of the rest. Make sure you save the world, hero.”

“Yeah, I’ll leave it to you. Goodbye, witch.”

When the hero finished listening to the witch, he regripped the pure white sword in his hand.

─After that, the boy who played the hero saved the world and became a hero in the true sense of the word.
