Chapter 173 - I believe in probabilities, and I also believe in miracles (2)

Aiming with a pistol wasn't that much different than aiming with a rifle. That part wasn't difficult, but shouldn't she disengage the safety first? Otherwise, if the zombie rushed over before she had time to disengage the safety, it would be over for her.

"Where's the safety on this gun?" Bei Nuan asked Qiu Ji.

"You know what a safety is?

Qiu Ji was close to her to teach her how to aim and laughed in her ear.

"The design of this gun is different. The safety is connected to the gun. You just have to pull the trigger."

"Oh." Bei Nuan turned the gun and aimed it at Qiu Ji.

Qiu Ji knew the gun wasn't loaded, but he was still startled and immediately evaded her aim.

He taught Bei Nuan. "Even if there's no bullet in the gun, never point a gun at anyone. Doing otherwise could cause a fatal accident."

Qiu Zhengxun sat there with an unhappy expression as Qiu Ji ignored him and wholeheartedly taught Bei Nuan.

Soon, the burly man, who hosted the cage fights, came over. As soon as he came over, Bei Nuan pointed the pitch-black gun at him.

The burly man also shivered and hastily evaded.

"Don't worry. It's not loaded." Bei Nuan comforted him.

"It's still scary even when it's not loaded." The burly man smiled at Bei Nuan. He was holding a small notepad and a sparkly pink pen. He came over here to register her for the fight.

He said to Bei Nuan, "Show me your tag."

Bei Nuan pulled the tag out of her clothing to show him.

Seeing the F on the tag, the burly man suddenly fell silent, and he looked at Bei Nuan with pity. However, he seemed to know that she was being forced to fight and just wrote "F" on the notepad without asking any further questions.

"Do you have any experience killing zombies?" He asked.

Bei Nuan carefully thought it over. She did. She had taken an oxygen container out of her pocket space and dropped it on a zombie to kill it. She had done that to save Du Ruo when she first met him in City S.

Bei Nuan answered, "I've killed one."

Her answer was beyond the burly man's expectations.

The burly man looked over Bei Nuan again. He couldn't believe that an F like her could kill a zombie. Still, he recorded in the notebook that she had killed a zombie.

"You killed a zombie before?" Qiu Ji asked.

Bei Nuan thought; it wasn't a big deal to have killed a zombie. She would have killed a lot more if the team wasn't so quick about killing zombies. It never got to her turn.

"It was just good luck that time." Bei Nuan gave an answer that would stop further questioning.

The burly man was done with his questioning. He returned to the stage with his notepad and announced it to the people below. "A fourth game has been added. This time, the player is an F and has killed one zombie. Place your bets quickly!"

"An F?" The people below bursted into laughter.

"Why is an F participating? Who would bet on an F?"

Still, many people placed bets. The waiter, who took the bets, was surrounded by a dense crowd.

Bei Nuan looked over there. Puzzled, she asked Qiu Ji, "Are they all betting that I'll lose? If everyone bets that I'll lose, how can they win money?"

Qiu Ji explained, "They're betting on the various ways you can lose. For example, whether you die after firing the first shot or the second shot. Or, if you're bitten by the zombie before you get one shot off. And also, which part of your body the zombie will bite first: head, hands, feet, etc.  Different bets will have different odds."

Bei Nuan was speechless. "Is no one betting that I'll win?"

Qiu Ji glanced over at the waitress, who was responsible for taking bets for Bei Nuan winning.

Bei Nuan followed his gaze and saw the waitress standing there alone with a box. No one was paying attention to her.

"You're an F. An F has never come out of the cage alive. They'll win a lot of money if you win, but everyone thinks it's a waste of money to bet on an F winning."

Bei Nuan got angry and asked Qiu Ji, "Can you lend me five dollars?"

Qiu Ji took out his wallet and a bill from it. "I don't have five dollars. Will a hundred dollars work?"

"Yeah, I'll pay you back."

Bei Nuan took the money and waved at the waitress, who was standing outside of the crowd. "Come here."

Bei Nuan handed the money to her. "I'm betting I'll win." Then, she asked, "What's the possible bets on winning outcomes?"

Next to her, Qiu Ji watched Bei Nuan placing a bet.

While placing the bet, Bei Nuan asked him, "You said that an F has never won a cage fight. Do you think I'll lose?"

"My brother and Old Hu came up with the tag system." Qiu Ji lowered his voice, turned to calmly look at his brother, and turned back to smile at Bei Nuan.

"I believe in probabilities, and I also believe in miracles."
