Chapter 67 - Why did you come? (1)

Suddenly, Bei Nuan stopped being afraid. Staring at Huo Ren's arrogant face, Bei Nuan fantasized the scene of thousands of bags of rice smashing down on him.

"What's wrong with Big Bro Huo?" The yellow-haired man behind Bei Nuan muttered, "Bad mood?"

Are you blind? He's not in a bad mood. His mood is too good, okay?

"Stay here or go back to your room. I'm going up to check on him," The yellow-haired man instructed before leaving. He didn't have to keep an eye on Bei Nuan. The place was surrounded by high walls. Bei Nuan wasn't a bird. She couldn't fly out.

When Bei Nuan looked up again, Huo Ren had already disappeared from the balcony.

A few guards with guns came over and dragged the middle-aged man away from his wife and daughter.

The scared off crowd gingerly returned to the yard.

One of them quietly inquired, "Why was there a gunshot?"

The guard downplayed it. "Our boss saw that the man was turning into a zombie from above and shot him.

Some people really believed him and others were skeptical. Regardless, no one dared to say another word.

The yellow-haired man didn't seem like he was coming back. Bei Nuan quietly snuck into the outskirts of the yard.

Sure enough, Lu Xingchi and the others came out of the building in the back.

There were many people sitting on the steps of the building under the shade of the trees. Lu Xingchi walked over and sat down there. Bei Nuan looked around and went over there and sat down too.

It was rare for the big boss to be so low-key. How novel.

Seeing Bei Nuan coming over from his peripheral vision, he didn't turn to look at her. Instead, he used his body to block the sight of his hand reaching out and holding hers. His fingers were slender and strong, and his palm was warm. His hand was bigger than hers by a size, and he tightly wrapped his hand around hers.

Bei Nuan suddenly wanted to cry. She wanted to ask him; did you follow the trail of the fried rice with eggs? But then again, that felt too nonsensical.

Something slipped into her hand.

As it turned out, the reason he held her hand was because he wanted to pass something to her.

Bei Nuan pulled her hand back and lowered her head to look. It was two deformed bullets along with their bullet casings.

Lu Xingchi whispered, "The person who died on the dock and the people who were killed in the restaurant were all shot at close range. Look carefully. The bullets taken from their bodies are the same."

He was referring to the waiters that had been killed in the restaurant outside Ningcheng on the day of the zombie virus outbreak.

When had he retrieved the bullets? Bei Nuan hadn't noticed at all.

At the time, the restaurant owner was so frightened that he had a nervous breakdown. He had told them that the group was talking about an inhibitor for the zombie virus.

Lu Xingchi came to the same conclusion as her. "I think they were probably murdered by the same group. They mentioned an inhibitor for the zombie virus. I want to find out what's going on."

So that's why Lu Xingchi would be so out-of-character and enter the refuge in such a low-key manner.

This refuge was strange. At first glance, it looked like a kind and charitable place that took in survivors, but in reality, it was Huo Ren's territory.

Huo Ren was tyrannical and had no regard for human life. No one dared to stop him. He wasn't the type of person who would have a sudden bout of kindness and open a refuge. Perhaps, this was just his playground. He tricked these people into captivity so he could enjoy them at will.

Bei Nuan shivered.

She quietly told what she knew about Huo Ren to Lu Xingchi.

Lu Xingchi nodded. He asked which room she was staying in and then said, "We'll probably stay here for two days. Don't be afraid."

With his reassurance, Bei Nuan went to her room to rest without worries.
