Chapter 40 - Can't you be a bit more magnanimous? (1)

The next day, the group woke up and set off for Jiangcheng. They would eat breakfast in the jeep; they were waiting to eat lean pork congee made by Bei Nuan.

Although time didn't flow on the upper layer of her pocket space, time flowed normally on the lower layer. It was no different from normal space.

After waking up, Bei Nuan had blanched sliced meat and added that to a pot along with rice, sliced ginger, and water. She put the pot and the lit portable butane stove into her pocket space and let the congee slowly simmer. There was no wind in the pocket space, and it wouldn't shake. It was perfect as a kitchen.

Bei Nuan consulted #3, "The pocket space looks like it's sealed off. If I cook things in it, will I use up the oxygen inside?"

#3 laughed. "You won't."

Bei Nuan asked another question, "If the heat from the stove has nowhere to go, will it get too hot?"

#3 calmly answered, "That won't happen either. It's like a normal house. You can use it with confidence."

"So what's the principle behind it?" Bei Nuan continued to ask. "It doesn't conform to the rules of physics."

#3 mocked, "Why quibble about the principle? You're using your consciousness to retrieve things. You have a pocket space and other people have their abilities. What's the point of discussing your world's rules of physics with me?"

Bei Nuan had played Werewolf last night and was used to looking for flaws in other people's speeches. She immediately noticed the problem.

"Other people? Who are those other people? Besides pocket space, what abilities are out there?"

#3 immediately shut its mouth and didn't say another word.

After the congee was done simmering, Lu Xingchi stopped the jeep by the side of the road.

Bei Nuan also took out a package of vacuum-sealed braised eggs. Everyone had breakfast in the jeep.

While eating congee, Du Ruo asked, "Bei Nuan, I can't let you cook all the time. I'll cook Hainanese chicken with rice for you tomorrow to let you taste my cooking skills. I learned how to cook Hainanese chicken from a Singapore celebrity chef. It's pretty good."

Du Ruo nudged Lu Xingchi. "Right?"

"En."

Tomorrow? Don't you know that Lu Xingchi is planning on getting rid of me again?

After Bei Nuan finished eating, she ladedly out half a bowl of congee and fed Jiang Fei.

Jiang Fei's recovery was going well. He was awake most of the time and silently lying on the last row of the seats. It was just that his gaze was always fixed on Bei Nuan.

Bei Nuan didn't have time to bother with him. She was busy checking the task interface.

#3 had stopped talking, but it had released a new Holy Mother voice task on the interface. This time, the task was very reasonable. She had to say "can't you be a bit more magnanimous?" The reward was doubled Holy Mother points for 24 hours.

Bei Nuan liked this task. Although five times was a lot, saying those words was easy. The only difficulty lied in that she had to say this and appear reasonable in the situation. Otherwise, it didn't count.

They were on the road, and there were only the four of them around. After getting the task, Bei Nuan had been pondering how to create a situation where the others wouldn't be "magnanimous".

Lu Xingchi had already finished eating and was fiddling with his crossbow. Occasionally, he would glance at the back seats. His gaze was cold and sharp as if he could see through everything. His shoulder and arm muscles were faintly visible under his white shirt. Elegant, powerful, and impeccable; he looked like a cheetah about to hunt down prey. It would be difficult to complete her task using him.

Bei Nuan turned her head and glanced next to her at Du Ruo.

Du Ruo had soft hair. He looked quite pitiful with his long legs pulled back to his seat. He was currently scraping the bottom of the pot to add the last bit of congee to his bowl. He was unaware that someone was plotting against him.

Noticing Bei Nuan's gaze, he looked up. Somewhat confused, he asked, "Bei Nuan, what's with that look? It feels like you're planning on selling me."

Bei Nuan didn't answer and took the pot from him.

Du Ruo could only watch as Bei Nuan poured that precious last bit of lean pork congee into Jiang Fei's bowl. She stirred the congee, scooped up a bit, brought a spoonful to Jiang Fei's mouth, and coaxed, "Ahh -"

The injured Jiang Fei, who was lying in the backseat, looked at Bei Nuan and then at Du Ruo. He didn't open his mouth to eat. With his hoarse throat, he softly said, "I'm okay. You can give the food to him."

"He's eaten a lot." Bei Nuan insisted on feeding him the congee.

Jiang Fei's eyes curved a bit into a smile and obediently opened his mouth.

Du Ruo felt terribly wronged. "Why? I only had two bowls. Besides, I clearly wanted to eat it first."

Bei Nuan leisurely replied, "He's already so badly injured. Can't you be a bit more magnanimous?"
