29 Aftermath of Pain

He landed crashing onto a wooden floor. He rolled onto his back and pushed himself up, sitting up. The stars still filled the sky. He pulled himself up onto the bed and sat there. His shoulders screamed in pain when he moved them, his back seemed to snap under his own weight. He lied down. He could barely move. He looked to his side and noticed Cassidy, sleeping, she still had the tail and the ears. He touched her ears, they twitched and she turned her back to him. He moved his hand down to her tail and played around with it. It flipped around moving away from his hand. He passed his hand down her side. She whimpered gently as she woke up. Hugo stayed lying next to her. She turned and slowly opened her eyes and yawned.

"Did you wake me up?"

"Yeah," He said weakly, "Yeah, I did."

"Why? It's still the middle of the night."

"I was scared this was an illusion," He answered weakly, "Sorry."

"You seem so weak, what happened? Did I do something to you?"

"No, no, it's fine, everything's fine," He said weakly, "I am here with you, everything is fine."

"Something is clearly not fine, wait here," She said as she put on her clothes and climbed out of the bed, "I will get your parents, something is clearly wrong," She returned a few minutes later, with Sona and Omega following her. Omega lifted him up to an upright position. He closed his left eye and looked at him with his right eye.

"What happened to you? You are in a lot of pain, why?"

"I am fine, I am still alive," He said weakly, "Don't worry, just let me rest."

"No, Hugo, what did you do to yourself? Tell me," Omega shook him to keep him from closing his eyes, "Who or what did this to you?"

"Jar-," Hugo could barely speak, "Jarvan."

"What?! The God of Evil did this to you?" Hugo nodded weakly.

"Sil fixed my," Hugo explained nearly out of breathe, "Bones but he said that the pain would stay."

"He brought me into his little realm and stole the powers he gave me and asked me to remove my warring policy," Hugo said, his voice was still weak, but he could hold himself up alone, "I said that I wouldn't and he told me that I should get ready for a fight, he then absolutely kicked my ass, I exhausted myself with my demonborn that I couldn't even defend myself at all, he threw me against the walls of the room and asked me if I would remove the policy, when I refused, he wrapped my arm behind my back and pulled on it, and he did the same with the other and then tossed me across the room. "Of course," She said as she sat down next to Hugo, "I love him, why would I leave him in pain?"

"Good, well, good night," They said as they left the house.

"Good night," Cassidy called back. She turned to Hugo. He lay motionless on the bed, his eyes were open, lost in the void he was staring into. She lay down next to him and rolled onto her side to see him.She put her hand on his. She left it there. She stay there awake looking at the ceiling. He moved his hand and grabbed hers. He didn't say anything. Cassidy rolled over and looked at him, he hadn't moved.

"Do I worry you that much?" He whispered, "Fall asleep, I am fine."

"It's not that, it's just that," She paused, "I don't know."

"Sorry I woke you."

"No, don't say that," She said as she moved closer to him, "You took care of me, now it's my turn."

"If you want, I don't know how much I will be able to do," He whispered, "Thank you."

"You don't need to thank me, but why are you whispering?"

"I can't speak much louder, I am in a lot of pain."

"Oh, sorry," She said as she kissed his forehead, "Do you want to sleep or just talk?"

"I don't think I will even fall asleep in this condition, so probably talk."

"I'll light a candle," She said as she leaned over and grabbed the lighter. She got up and walked to the table and grabbed a candle. Hugo turned his head and watched her walk around. Her tail swayed from side to side. She placed the candle on the table at the foot of the bed and returned to his side. He pushed himself up with his arms and pain strained his face, she quickly moved to help him. He leaned against the wall. His face was covered in sweat and his breathing was heavy. She crawled and sat next to him.

"Tell me before you do things like that," She said as she kissed his cheek, "You are injured, cigarette?"

"No, but can you pass me my bottle?"

"Sure here," She said as she grabbed his bottle and handed it to him, "Here you go."

"I like your new look," He smiled, "I don't know why, but I think it looks cute on you," He painfully moved the bottle to his lips and took a drink, she blushed and her tail flipped behind her, "Do you like them?"

"Yeah," She rested her head on his shoulder, "How did you fight through the pain without giving up?"

"I, I don't know, I actually don't know, being a demonborn probably helped me withstand more punishment," He said softly, "Maybe it was the will not to let down these people, maybe someone in particular."

"I love you too, maybe your father will want to see how you matched Jarvan's toying when you are better."

"He probably will, but I don't know, maybe he won't," Hugo sighed, "That motherfucker."

"Don't think about him," She said, "Like you told me before, think about now, this moment."

Hugo smiled and caressed the under of her chin with his finger. She lifted her head gently and closed her eyes as a small smile appeared on her face. Her tail flickered around as he rubbed her chin. He smiled, "Enjoying this? You really are becoming an animal."

"Hey! I am not an animal! I am just a little bit of a fox, that is all," She moved away from his hand.

"That isn't what I meant, I mean you enjoy me scratching your chin like a pet would," Hugo said as he put his arm back down on the bed, "I didn't mean to offend you, and I hope you enjoyed it, my arm is killing me."

"I know, I know, I just over reacted, that's all, and I did enjoy it, you could probably tell," She lay down with her head on his legs, "How was that room? What was in it?"

"It was pretty large, it was empty, and dark until he entered and a ball of light lit the room, floating at the top of the room. That is all, it was a plain stone room."

"But didn't that hurt when you hit the walls and the floor?"

"Of course it did, but I tried to ignore it."

"Do you want me to get you something to eat?"

"Is there any jerky left?"

"I think so, unless I ate it all," She said as she climbed out of the bed and walked to the closet, "Um, there is a little left, I should probably go get some more, I could go now, the merchants should probably be starting soon."

"No, it's fine, I am not very hungry and I don't think I can really eat much, can you help me stand?"

"Sure," She said as she put the bowl on the table and went to help him up. He moved stiffly and she was nearly carrying him as they walked to the chair, "Here you go, are you sure you are fine?"

"Yeah, thank you," He lifted his arm and grabbed a small piece of jerky and put it in his mouth, "How are you doing?"

"I am fine," She sat down on across from him, she grabbed a comb and brushed her tail, "I don't know, I haven't really thought of myself during these last days, with the marriage, meeting your parents and then this, I don't blame you, it is a hundred times better than what my life was before."

"I wouldn't have blamed you, it is not your fault, it is mine," He said as two horns appeared on his head, before quickly disappearing, "I am still tired to even start a demonborn transformation."

"Yes, come in," She said as she allowed him to enter, "Sit down."

"I am fine," He lied, "What is new today?"

"Well, we started planning the education plan," He yawned, "Excuse me, I worked all last night seeing what I could base myself off, I would need your approval," He said as he handed him a document.

"Read it out."
