269 Adoption Papers

Song Guang dabbed the corner of his mouth with a napkin and then called out to a maid who was standing nearby. "Go bring that file from my room in the study." He then turned to Song Jia and said, "Come with me."

Both of them left the dining room and went to the study room, where they sat on a sofa near the french window.

The maid soon came back with a blue folder in her hands and respectfully handed it over to Song Guang, who then pushed the file to Song Jia. "These are the papers here. I have got them prepared exactly as you wanted."

Song Jia opened the folder and scanned the content before giving a satisfied nod. After the two children had been taken away, she had always felt uneasy about it. But once Yue Ling was taken care of, she also found out that the couple that had taken the children away was paid by Yue Ling to do so, just to hurt her.

Even though they were really related to the children, she did not want to leave the children with them because she was sure they would not take proper care of the two. And if they stayed so far away from her, she would also not be able to always protect them, and that is why she had made this decision to adopt them.

She would always feel indebted to the kindness that Nanny Lin had shown to her since she was little. That woman was like a mother to her and letting her grandchildren suffer out there was not something she could do, her conscience would always be guilty otherwise. She knew doing this would in no way compare to what Nanny Lin did for her, but it was just her way of paying her back so that the old lady's soul would be at peace in the other world.

After scanning the content carefully, she closed the folder in satisfaction. But when she lifted her head, she saw Song Guang looking a bit concerned and thoughtful. Knowing him too well by now, Song Jia asked, "Is there something you want to say, Grandpa?"

Song Guang looked at her face as if trying to decipher her thoughts, before he finally asked, "Are you sure about this Xiao Jia?"

After a hesitant silence, Song Jia finally nodded her head in determination. "Yes Grandpa, I am sure."

"And what about that chap Wu Zhang, does he know?"

Song Jia pursed her lips in silence, lowering her head. Song Guang understood that her answer was in negation and he could not help but sigh at her reaction. "So do you not have any future plans with him?"

"Ah! No grandpa it is not what you think it is. Of course, we have."

"Then why have you not discussed this with him?" Song Guang could not understand her reason. "Xiao Jia, what exactly is going on in your head? It is adoption that we are talking about here and you still have not discussed it with him?!"

"Grandpa I did not get the chance to." Her soft voice turned timid.

"I— I don't know. But one thing that I know for sure is that I will not let go of the children even if he doesn't agree. Grandpa this is the least I can do for Nanny Lin. I owe this to her."

"Xiao Jia then before you make any decision, take my advice and think this thoroughly. Wu Zhang is the eldest son of the Wu family, and if you marry him your first child would become his heir. And given to the background of that family, do you think they would agree to take in the children of a Nanny into their family?"

Song Jia could only listen to everything that her grandfather said, without retorting. She knew what she had decided to do could sour her relationship with Wu Zhang and his family members. Everyone in the family had accepted her with open hearts but chances were very likely that they would not accept her decision to adopt Lin Mei and Lin Fang. And forget family, even Wu Zhang might not agree to it and if he didn't she naturally could not force him; after all, it was not his responsibility to take care of them. He had already surprised her when he agreed to take them as godchildren and now asking him to become their father, she knew it was too much ton ask for.

Song Guang reached out for Song Jia's hand and took it in his rough old ones. "Xiao Jia, listen to me. Don't make any decision brashly. Your first priority right now is to find Wu Zhang, right?"

Song Jia nodded.

"So it means that anything that you do about this will be done after he comes back, right?"

She nodded again.

"Great. So leave the kids and these papers here for the time being. I promise to take very good care of them. And once you find Wu Zhang, make sure to discuss everything with him first and only then apply for the adoption. Even if you have made up your mind, it will only be wise to consider his willingness to do so, as well. And who knows, that he might actually agree to it out of his love for you. So if you ask him first, it will prevent you from creating any disharmony between you two. And if he doesn't you will still have the choice to go ahead with it if you want to."
