69 Meeting a Council Member

Radley was not amused, "But why did you want to show me your scar?"

"To make it sink in. You did the impossible. No healer can do what you did. Not in their wildest dreams. That little stint made council members look bad."

Elita closed her eyes and tilted her head slightly, "Also, my mother wants to speak to you. There are just too many questions surrounding this entire event, and I am inclined to agree…Rita, how long are you going to stay there half-naked? At least put your bra on."

"Nah, I good."

"Kai, grab her. She is trying to seduce Radley!"

Kai jumped onto Rita as Elita joined as well. Rita frantically tried resisting as she flailed her arms about in a comedic fashion. The two girls struggled to get her bra back on but succeeded in the end. Elita punched her lightly in the head and leaned in closer and whispered, "Remember, there are two others here as well. Don't jump the gun. You might just regret it."

Rita just stuck her tongue out, just as Adira walked in and saw the scene. She shook her head and slapped her forehead, "You three really need to curb your hormones."

"Mom!"

She turned towards Radley who had a smile on his face, "I am glad to see you are up and running, and I am going to tell you this. I am not happy. That was a stupid risk you took."

Radley shrugged, "I will do it again in a heartbeat."

She sighed, "I know you would. That is why I trust you with the girls, but be careful. This stint catapulted you to new heights within the organization."

"You told the council about it?"

"Had too. They know about you and there is a council member within these very walls. You being hurt kind of set off a bunch of alarms around here. People were frantically looking for healers. Luckily, there was one in town. That being said. It got the attention of the councilman in town."

"Why is there a councilman in town?"

"Simple, he is here to investigate the deaths of two magistrates. They found some irregularities on the books, but still, magistrates were murdered. Execution of Adrian and his wives is on the cards."

"What!?"

"Relax. I said it was on the cards, but there are too many irregularities to really do anything. Stories that don't corroborate, and of course your involvement. There is even a petition that this was all in self-defense. Given the semi lawless nature of this continent, they will be set free. I just don't know when. This brings me to the next topic. This council member has requested your presence."

He checked his health and saw it was at a poultry ten percent. He will need to rest until he was fully ready, then it hit him like a can of brick, "Ah Shit! My ore!"

Everyone in the room laughed. Kai pointed over to the corner, "There is your bag of rocks."

Radley let out a sigh of relief, "Alright, take me to your leader."

"Seriously, a classic Sci-fi reference?"

They made their way towards Angus's old accommodations. Someone in front met them there and immediately let them through. The girls remained behind at the B&B.

They met a rather friendly-looking old man with a healthy paunch. Radley scanned him. Arnold, Lv.23, Caring nature, Aura: Red. A red aura for a human? Most unusual.

"You must be…the loner? My name is Arnold. Please to meet you, young lad."

Radley nodded.

He beckoned for them to sit and offered them drink, "Some scotch on the rocks?"

Radley shook his head, "Don't like the taste."

"This is premium stuff. Thirty-year-old premium scotch. Single malt. Only the finest."

"Don't like the taste of the harder stuff."

The old man smiled, "Mind if I have some?"

"Go ahead."

"Adira?"

She nodded in appreciation. Arnold poured two glassed with some ice and gave one to Adira who gratefully accepts it.

He took a sip and savored it, "So, the reason I called you here was to estimate your full potential."

"Let's just cut to the chase. Is my head on the chopping block too?"

"Why would your head be on the chopping block?"

"I was one of the…"

Adira gave him a light nudge to not reveal his hand, "…key factors on the battle of the bridge."

The old man laughed, "No. you are much too valuable for that. I want to know how you saved the girl?"

"You mean Rita?"

"Yes."

"Honestly I don't know either."

"It was said her heart was ripped out of her chest."

"An Albino scorpion impaled her through the heart that much I can tell you."

"Yes, and then you healed her. Wounds like that are pretty severe. I don't care how gifted a healer is there just isn't a way to heal a person with that type of wound. You are either the most gifted healer in existence, or this is all a waste of my time."

"You do know that it nearly killed me."

"Yes, I read the report. The problem is you had a victim and two girls to corroborate the evidence."

"I have absolutely no reason to defend myself against this. Are we done?"

"I gather I touched a nerve."

"If you can call it that. It's clear you aren't about to believe me, and I don't care if you believe me or not. This means that this conversation is a glorious waste of time."
