Chapter 862 Call Off The Engagement

After Linda saw the message, she pondered over it for a while before she spoke.

"It doesn't matter. If Lily's classmate wants to see Lily, just let him come here. Our Xia Clan is also a rich, large clan, so it's okay for any of her friends to come over and visit her. I don't believe that the Dai Clan would be angry after knowing about this matter."

Linda had made up her mind that she would never let Lily Xie marry into such a bad clan like the Dai Clan. Otherwise, Lily Xie would not have a good life and would be trapped after her marriage. Johnson wasn't powerful enough, so with the sources that he had, he'd only managed to find out that the Dai Clan managed many restaurants. He didn't know that they were involved in shady business as well.

Since Linda was saying that they should let Lily Xie's classmate visit the Xia Clan's residence, Donna didn't say anything more about the matter. Donna knew that Linda had a good head on her shoulders. Lily Xie was starting to like Linda even more and couldn't help but think that she was a really nice person.

When Donna had said that it wasn't appropriate for Lily Xie's classmate to come over to see her, Lily Xie hadn't argued with her. She knew that if Linda hadn't pitched in with her own two cents, her classmate wouldn't be able to visit her at the Xia Clan's residence.

"Thank you, Linda." She looked at Linda and stuck her tongue out happily.

They all enjoyed their meal together. Linda hadn't come back to the Xia Clan's residence for a long time, so she'd been worried about all of them. Now that she saw Johnson in such a good condition, she felt at ease.

Donna was also leading a better life than before. Linda could see that Johnson was nice to Donna and treated her as the hostess of his house.

He also wanted her to keep him company for the rest of his life.

At the thought of this, Linda felt unprecedentedly satisfied.

After dinner, Johnson waved Linda over.

"Oh, right... Linda, I have something to talk to you about. Come to my study now."

Linda felt confused, wondering what it was that Johnson wanted to tell her and why he couldn't say it in front of anyone else.

But out of respect for her father, she followed him into his study.

"Father, what's the matter? Did something happen?"

Johnson shook his head, but he had a grim expression on his face. He seemed to be hesitating to tell Linda what was on his mind.

"I want to ask you a question," he finally said.

"Okay, go ahead."

Linda nodded, sitting on the sofa in the study.

Johnson bit his lip,

ding so much money on the investigation.

"I hired some people to check."

"Well, I asked the intelligence organization of the Mu Clan to investigate the Dai Clan's background. On the surface, it looks like all they do is managing restaurants, but in fact, they're involved in a lot of shady business deals on the sly."

Johnson was hit by a wave of regret the moment he heard Linda's words. "Oh, no. Linda, I almost got Lily into trouble."

"It doesn't matter. Luckily, we've found out the truth in time. But when it comes to matters like these, it's not good for us to spread it to others. Did the Dai Clan contact you first, or did you contact them first?"

Linda wanted to confirm whether the Dai Clan had concocted a plot this time.

"I was good friends with Lord Dai many years ago, but we'd been out of touch for a long time. Half a year ago, we contacted each other again. He told me that his younger son isn't married yet and wanted me to introduce a suitable woman to him. I immediately thought of Lily and introduced them to each other."

"Good. You can look for an excuse to call off the engagement then," Linda said after giving it some thought.

She didn't care about what kind of business the Dai Clan did and how they earned money.

Her only concern was to prevent Lily Xie from being harmed.

She talked to Johnson for a while before heading back to her room.

Since it was already late, Linda and Charles had decided to stay in the Xia Clan's residence tonight.

Later that night, Charles was lying in the bed with Linda in his arms.

Little Potato and Little Tomato were quietly sleeping in the cots nearby.

"Honey," Charles said gently and then kissed Linda's face.
