Chapter 5 Trapped

“But, what is your plan?” I caught up with him and asked. However, Wen Jiubo replied evasively,

“It’s not important for now. We must first find a way out of here. My plan is useless if we can’t find a way to go back to the world of the living.” Wen Jiubo walked forward while he kept looking around.

What he said was quite reasonable. Sometimes I just hated the fact that he could always stay calm and collected no matter what.

“I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it,” I followed Wen Jiubo and muttered. “I risked everything to come here, but I never thought I’d really be able to find you.”

“Why am I not surprised?” Wen Jiubo casually said as he walked to the corner. He touched the wall and carefully studied it.

How could he still make fun of me even in this situation? I was upset, but before I could refute, Wen Jiub opened his mouth.

“Gu Yu, do you know why there is a maze?”

Maze?

Ah… after hearing that, I suddenly noticed that the endless corridors and the high walls showed that we really were in a maze. I did not notice it before.

I shook my head.

“Because there is no maze at all.” After he said those puzzling words, he stopped studying the wall that he was very interested in and turned to me. “Haven’t you thought about this problem? Since you entered this place from Mr. Cat’s restaurant, you should know that we’re in the gap between the world of Yin and the world of Yang; that is to say, no physical object exists here except the endless void. So why are there solid walls in the void? Have you ever thought about it?”

I nodded and then shook my head. Although I understood what he tried to say this time, I did not know the answer to his question.

“The answer is quite simple because everything you see around you is a creation of your mind. This place created a maze from which you would never escape since you entered the gap with a confused and disoriented mind. Wen Jiubo looked at the walls around him and said, “So it can be said that your mind is what’s trapping us here.”

“Wait,” I interrupted him and asked confusedly. “What do you mean? Are you saying that this place is an illusion?”

“No, it’s real,” Wen Jiubo refuted. “It’s real, but it’s created by your mind. This place is the intersection of the two worlds. Physical matter and spirit work the same way here. Your mind becomes matter, and matter is created by your mind, in other words——your mind can affect everything here. Here, you can easily turn your thoughts into reality.”

I looked at Wen Jiubo in surprise and immediately opposed him without mercy.

“How is that possible? Do you think I’m a five-year-old child?” I felt amused. “So every one of my dreams can come true here? Why didn’t I see any of my dreams came true now? I’m thinking of a hamburger, why doesn’t the hamburger appear in front of me?”

“Perhaps you’re not hungry now,” Wen Jiubai said airily. “You’re pretty tense. Even if you’re really hungry, I’m afraid it wouldn’t be the thing you care about the most right now? Hamburger is not what you desire most in your heart, and so of course, it won’t be materialized.”

“Are you saying that it must be what I desperately want?” I still thought it was very absurd. “Or only my subconscious wishes can come true?”

This was ridiculous. It sounded like a fantasy novel.

But surprisingly, Wen Jiubo nodded, and then he said, “Yes, a good example would be the fact that I’m standing right in front of you.”

Wen Jiubo … is one example?

I couldn’t stop but think very hard. If this place was the gap between the world of Yin and the world of Yang, it should be at least as large as the entire Earth, so it should have been almost impossible for me to find Wen Jiubo.

I was already mentally prepared for it. But I did not expect to find him so easily. Did that mean, seeing Wen Jiubo again was what I desired the most in my heart, and that’s why I could find him so easily?

Whatever the reason was, it was ridiculous.

“Nothing in this world is ridiculous,” Wen Jiubo said slowly as if he had read my mind. “That word is used as an excuse by humans. Humans made it up to protect their precarious sociality. Gu Yu, you’re the creator of this world now. No, as long as they’re in this void, anyone can be the creator,”

Wen Jiubo said firmly, but I became even more confused.

“What you said…is absurd… even if you’re right, does it have anything to do with how we can escape from here?” I complained. “You just said that our top priority now is to get out of here.”

“That’s true. That’s why I have to inform you in advance,” Wen Jiubo said lazily. Suddenly, he clasped his hands together and began doing stretching exercises. “The reason why I said so much is because I don’t want to hear you nagging me for not warning you later. ”

“Ha?” This time, I was completely lost.

Just before I could ask, a terrible noise came from behind us, as if some giant object crashed into the wall.

I was startled and looked back, but then I was stunned by what I saw. A giant beast bared its sharp teeth and roared, as if it came from some monster movie! It was about ten meters high and had to bow its huge body due to the small space of the maze corridor. It was obviously not happy with this. He growled with its dinosaur-like tail swinging behind.

“That, what is that thing?!” I was so terrified that my voice cracked.

“It’s just a monster like in those American movies.” Wen Jiubo covered his head with his arms as the falling rocks kept hitting us, but he remained calm. “I’m not sure if it looks exactly the same as the one in that movie, but I did my best.”

“What?!” I shouted. “You created this thing?”

“Yes, basically. However, if we continue to stand here, I think it’s going to eat us!” Wen Jiubo shouted at me. “Run!”
