Chapter 137 - Aftermath

All of a sudden, they heard an explosion, and firecrackers erupted in the air. Everyone looked at the sky gasping in surprise and amazement.

More firecrackers exploded in the sky to everyone's delight.

The fantastic fireworks display lasted for ten minutes and the light returned after the fireworks ended.

Everyone cheered and gave thunderous applause to the couple.

The groom and bride stood in front of the crowd and thank everyone for attending the special event.

The couple's speech indicated that the occasion finally ended.

One by one the guest thanked the couple and the Helman family for inviting them to the wedding celebration, then they proceed to board their carriages.

It was already 8:00 in the evening when the last guest finally leaves the farm.

The bride, the groom, and the entire family retreated to the house to rest for the night, while the servants start cleaning the wedding venue and put the trash in the garbage can.

Inside the couple's bedroom.

Laura looked at her husband. "When the lights went off, I was scared," she said.

Graven raised a brow. "Why?"

"I thought it was Luke..." she said nervously.

"Don't think about that idea, I told you before that I have a surprise for you. I instructed my men to prepare the fireworks. Did you like the fireworks display?" he asked.

Laura smiled feeling relieved. "Yes, I love it so much! Thank you, husband! The fireworks display is a marvelous ending to this wonderful occasion!" she said brightly.

Graven hugged his wife tightly. The fireworks display was his plan but he didn't order his men to turn off the lights scaring everyone. He knew his men too well... they won't do something like that.

His mind can only think of someone who did it...Luke!

After they changed into their pajamas, they lie on the bed beside each other.

Laura yawned and buried her face on his chest. "I'm sleepy and tired..." she murmured.

"Alright, go on, you may sleep now, I'll watch over you," he whispered and wrapped his arms around her.

"Good night, sweet dreams!" Laura spoke in a sleepy voice.

"Sweet dreams my love," he replied and kissed her head.

Laura closed her eyes preparing to sleep.

Graven wants to go outside and find out if Luke was still lingering outside in the vicinity of the farm. The thing that bothered him now is what if his twin is planning to attack the Helman family household and the whole farm? He wants to talk to him sensibly before he will run into a murderous frenzy due to anger and jealousy.

He looked at his wife's face, waiting for her to fall asleep deeply so that he can leave her side and find his brother outside. He was confident that his men if saw his brother around the farm.

If he can't find Luke, he will have to visit the cave again to get a clear confirmation that his brother was finally resurrected.

He needs to talk to him soon before his twin will do something harmful to the Helman family.

A few minutes later, he can already hear his wife's soft snoring.

Half an hour later, Graven left the bed and vanished from the room.

He appeared outside the house and hovered in the air going in the direction of his men in the western part of the farm where thick trees were growing abundantly.

His men left their hiding place after sensing his presence, he addressed them. "Have you seen my brother Luke around the farm during the wedding?" he asked them.

"Yes, Lord! We saw your twin hiding behind the trunk of the tree. We've been watching his every move and we were about to restrain him if he has any plans of sabotaging the wedding," one of the men in hooded black cape said.

"Did you intentionally turn off the lights in the whole farm?" he asked.

"No we didn't, we just set the fireworks display as per your instruction. I think the absence of lights during the fireworks display was Lord Luke's undoing... but other than that he didn't do anything... so we didn't restrain him," the guy answered.

"Alright, can you still sense my brother's presence around the area?"

The guy in black cape shook his head. "We don't have anymore sighting of him so far, Lord. We saw him leaving the farm after the fireworks display, we didn't follow him," the guy responded.

Graven sighed. Luke and his men knew each other. It would be a disaster if they fought each other on the farm. He was grateful that his twin didn't employ anger and revenge on the day of his wedding to Laura, he doesn't want innocent people to get hurt in the process.

"Alright, I'm going back to the house, keep patrolling the whole farm and inform me if you detect my twin's presence around the area," he commanded.

"Yes, Lord!" the men responded in unison.

Graven vanished into thin air and returned inside the room, he settled on the bed beside his wife. He shut his eyes ready to sleep.

The following day.

The couple woke up at 7:00 in the morning.

Laura looked at her husband. "Why did you leave my side last night? I'm too sleepy so I just continue to sleep instead of waiting for your return," she said.

"Ah, I went outside to ask my men if they detected my twin brother's presence last night," he asked, wanting to tell her the truth.

"And-?"

"Yes, they detected my brother's presence, he was watching us the whole time yesterday..." he said.

Laura gasped in shock and horror. "Oh My God!" she exclaimed. "So my intuition is right all along!" she said in a trembling voice. She feared for the safety of her family and the innocent guests. "We need to get out of here! It's the only way I can be sure that my family won't be implicated by Luke's wrath!" she concluded.

"Yeah, I agree with your idea. We shall resume our travel soon, going to the village which is the origin of your birth. Your father already told me the name of the place, Wimborne Village under the Larnwick Town jurisdiction," he said.

"I will tell mother and father that we will leave the farm after two days," Laura said. "By the way, where is Luke right now? Was he fully resurrected?" she inquired.

"Maybe, because the last time I visited his coffin, his body was nearly covered with flesh, his feet would be able to generate flesh any moment after I left the cave," he answered. "This afternoon, I'm going to leave for a few hours and try to find my brother to talk to him and find a common ground with him so that fight between us can be avoided," he said.

"Take me with you! I'll try to beg Luke to let go of me!" she offered.

"I'm sorry, wife, I can't take you with me. I don't you to get hurt just in case my brother and I will fight. It's going to be dangerous for someone like you around us during the time we will be fighting each other," he turned down her offer.

Laura released a troubled sigh. She was only able to experience complete happiness for one day, that was during her wedding day but her mind was already filled with worries and fear.

Well, it can't be avoided because she chose to fall in love with two brothers who are offsprings of a demon and a vampire. She put her life in this mess willingly now she has to endure the mental and emotional torture of being in the middle of two brothers who are competing for her love and affection.

The situation will be hard for her in the coming days... then there's also the problem of the missing Rebecca. Dang! problems just keep adding up and she made things worst when she finally married Graven.

She took a deep breath, bracing for the worst to come.

Graven has been observing his wife's face silently. He can see the myriad of emotions flashing in her eyes. "Are you regretting it now that you married me?" he asked sadly.

Laura's gaze flew to his face. "No! of course not!" she said. "I'll never regret tying the knot with you. I love to be your wife, but I simply can't help feeling worried because we anger your twin brother so I feel apprehensive right now," she explained. "Although I'm worried about what may happen ahead... but I never regretted loving and marrying you. It's a choice I made and I have to stand by your side as your wife no matter what the consequences of my actions will be," she said bravely.

Graven smiled brightly. "I'm happy and satisfied with your answer, wife! Don't worry we will weather the storm together," he said trying to be strong for both of them.

They hugged each other tightly.

A few minutes later.

The couple exited their room and went downstairs to join the rest of the Helman family in the dining room for breakfast and informed them of their plan of leaving after two days for a business trip.

Laura addressed her parents around the table. "Father, Mother, we will leave the farm after two days due to Graven's business trip," she informed them.

"Okay, drop us a visit anytime," Rosa replied.

"Are you going back to South Pond Town?" Simon asked his son-in-law.

"Yes, Father. After I finished my business trip we will be returning to South Pond Town, we will try to come here if we still have enough time before proceeding to my father's home," Graven responded.

"Alright, but if there is no time left you may proceed to South Pond without dropping here. Just visit us here if you have some free time in the future," Simon stated.

"Okay, Father," Graven said and nods his head.

The Helman family began eating in comfortable silence.

After they finished breakfast, the couple stayed in the veranda, watching the servants hauling the table and chairs into the carriage to return them to the restaurant located in the town.
