Chapter 13 - Misunderstanding

She didn’t expect this man to be her senior. Anita looked at Owen and thought disdainfully, how could such an outstanding man pick up a drunk woman at a bar?

“But Owen’s lecture audience is undergraduates. I remember that you’re a doctorate student, right? So you might not have a chance to meet him!” Sylvia added.

So he was giving lectures to undergraduates. No wonder Anita had never bumped into him. It made sense. After all, the school was so big and everyone was busy.

But then again, such an excellent man had such a messed up private life. It seemed like she really couldn’t just judge him from his appearance. Anita silently cursed Owen.

Owen was quite speechless as he looked at Anita. She looked quite beautiful and was so highly educated, but she was actually a call girl. As expected, one couldn’t be judged by one’s appearance and degree.

But the couple did not know about Anita and Owen’s thoughts, nor did they know that their first meeting had been so scandalous.

It was just that it was too much of a coincidence that the two of them were alumni, so they quickly asked the two of them to leave each other’s contact details. They told Owen to find Anita when he went to school to give a lecture and to keep in touch.

The two of them had no choice but to exchange phone numbers under the “coercion” of the couple.

‘Who knows if he’ll contact me again? Maybe he’ll delete my number when we get out,’ Anita thought after leaving her phone number. The meal finally ended in awkwardness. Owen and Anita both breathed a long sigh of relief.

Anita was about to say goodbye politely and leave, but Madam Sylvia called out to Anita, “Owen, come send Miss Anita home. The driver is off.”

Sylvia seemed to know what excuse he would use, so she told him beforehand that the driver had gotten off work.

Owen couldn’t decline and could only accept it.

Anita could not refuse. She was a guest, and it was good enough for someone to offer to send her home. How could she choose who would send her? She could only thank Madam Sylvia for her hospitality and say goodbye politely.

The two of them sat into the car awkwardly. After Owen got into the car and asked about Anita’s address, they didn’t say anything else. The car drove forward steadily.

The atmosphere in the car was awkward. Owen said nothing, but Anita couldn’t help herself. “That person… from that day was you?”

After asking, Anita felt awkward, but if she didn’t ask the question, she wouldn’t have a chance anymore. So after thinking about it, she asked.

Owen didn’t look panicked. He still kept his eyes straight ahead. He didn’t say anything for such a long time that Anita thought Owen wouldn’t reply.

“Yep…” That one word exposed Owen’s innermost feelings. He was actually panicking. The situation that day had been too awkward for him. After Anita had mentioned it directly, Owen thought about it for a long time before replying.

After getting Owen’s reply, Anita thought about it for a moment and asked, “Why did you give me money that day?”

This question puzzled Owen, and he subconsciously said, “…Didn’t Daniel and the others tell you? They might have given you money already, but I added some.” Owen paused.

Then Owen added, “Could it be that I gave too little?” It would have been better if he hadn’t added that last sentence, but as soon as he said it, he infuriated Anita.

“I don’t know who Daniel is. And what did you say? Too little? What do you take me for?” Anita felt confused and angry now.

Owen turned around in shock after hearing Anita’s words. Looking at Anita’s expression, he was sure that Anita really didn’t know who he was. “Aren’t you the call girl Daniel arranged? Didn’t you get into my car the other day…”

These words shocked Anita.

So she was the one who was wrong? Anita couldn’t believe it. The truth of what had been on her mind for so many days was actually this. She was actually treated as a call girl.

Anita did not want to be misunderstood. “I’m not. I drank too much and got into the wrong car the other day. I called Uber.”

How could there be such a coincidence in the world? Owen was in disbelief, but Anita’s angry look seemed genuine.

From the look on Owen’s face, she knew he didn’t believe her. Anita was angry he didn’t believe her. She said loudly, “Stop the car. I don’t want you to send me anymore. I’ll go home by myself. Stop the car.”

Owen looked at Anita. He was afraid she would do something if he didn’t stop the car, so he had to stop the car by the side of the road first.

As soon as the car stopped, Anita pushed open the door and got out. “I told you I’m not a call girl. Whether you believe me or not, I’ll pay you back.”

Before Owen could reply, Anita reached out and slammed the car door shut..
