Chapter 1941 Leila Took Melissa.

Name:The Substitute Bride Author:Mi Lu
"Leila…Leila?" Wade called out loud and patted Leila on her shoulders.

"Oh, you scared me!" Leila exclaimed as she was pulled herself back from her thoughts.

Leila turned to Wade and looked at her with a disgusted expression.

"Oh, I'm sorry! I, I just got a cup of coffee for you," Wade explained, on the spur of the moment, puzzled at her reaction.

"Just leave me alone!"

Leila shrieked and watched from under her furrowed brows as Wade put the coffee on her table and walked back to her seat without uttering another word. She was so upset inwardly that she couldn't just sit there and do nothing. Although Charles hadn't connected the things that had happened so far with her, it was just a matter of time. If Charles came to know about the truth, she would also end up in prison.

She shuddered at the thought and fixed her eyes on the door of Charles' office, though he was not in at this moment. Her heart was beating faster than ever. Then she stood up suddenly and walked to Wade.

"Wade, do you have any idea when Mr. Lu will come back?" Leila could hardly suppress the anxiousness in her voice as she asked.

Wade shook her head. She had noticed the abrupt change in Leila's behavior. She felt that there was something wrong with her.

"I'm just going to the hospital to see how Aunt Melissa is doing. Please, tell Mr. Lu if he asks," Leila said in one breath. She went back to her seat, grabbed her handbag, and trotted to the elevator before Wade could even reply to her.

Just a few minutes after Leila left, Charles walked into the office.

He cast a glance at the secretaries as usual before going inside his office. He stopped at finding that Leila's seat was vacant and asked where she was.

"Oh, Leila said she wanted to check how Ms. Lu is doing and left just five minutes ago!" Wade replied honestly.

David immediately turned his eyes on Charles, who was apparently thinking the same thing as David. As they exchanged looks with each other, both their faces turned pale. Their hearts sank.

Charles spun around and rushed back to the elevator without wasting a single moment, and David followed right after him with his brows furrowed. The urgency of the situation was apparent on their faces.

On the way to the parking lot, David called the security in the hospital and ordered them to keep an eye on Leila.

In the hospital, Melissa was talking with the nurse, who was taking care of her to kill time.

They talked and laughed when suddenly, Melissa spotted Leila at the door. The smile on her face froze right away, and she closed her eyes, pretending to sleep. The nurse was surprised at her abrupt movement, but she understood instantly when she saw Leila walking into the room. She took a towel in her hand, pretending that she was wiping Melissa's face.

"Please, stop this for a while and take a break. I want to spend some time with Aunt Melissa," Leila asked in a deliberately gentle voice.

Having no other choice, the nurse cast a worried glance at Melissa and left the room reluctantly.

When there were only the two of them in the room, Leila took a deep breath and took her seat on the chair beside the bed.

At this moment, Leila was petrified as well as seething in rage. She felt trapped. She was like a bird that would get frightened by the mere twang of a bow-string. She couldn't imagine what she would do if she was thrown into prison one more time.

Although her misdeeds were not revealed yet, and no one came to accuse her, she was well aware of the consequence she would have to face when t

said.

"Let go of her, Leila!" Charles shouted.

He was surprised and stared at Leila with his eyes wide open. Desperately, he searched his head to come up with an idea to save Melissa.

Melissa gasped to catch her breath. She rolled her eyes and kept hitting and kicking Leila, but Leila stood still as if she couldn't feel any pain.

"Please, stay where you are, Charles. A single twist of my hands will cost your mother her life!" Leila said in a soft and resolute tone with a desperate look.

Charles stopped and crossed his hands behind his back, looking into Leila's eyes quietly. Raising his chin a little, he promised Leila that he wouldn't make a move.

"Then you tell me, what's your plan?" he asked a few seconds later, distracting Leila's attention and waiting for a good opportunity.

"Charles, I'm so into you. I'm trying my best to be good to you. But why don't you love me? Why? Why do you always turn your eyes to Sheryl? What do you find in her that you can't find in me? I can't see anything special about her!" Leila felt wronged and cheated. According to her, nobody could ever love Charles the way she did. She hated to accept the fact that Charles failed to acknowledge it or return her love.

"Leila, love is not something that is in people's hands to decide whom to love and whom not to. I don't love you. Let go of my mother, and I promise I'll give you anything you want as long as I can afford it!" Charles lowered his voice, trying to reason with Leila.

Leila let out a loud, desperate laugh, which stopped abruptly.

"Charles, I want you. Can you give your love to me?" she screeched, her voice dripping with pain and anguish, and her eyes brimming with tears. She looked so broken and shattered at that point!

"Let go of my mother!" Charles raised his voice, pressing Leila with his eyes.

On the other hand, Leila strengthened the force of her hands around Melissa's neck to vent out her frustration, and also out of revenge.

Melissa's face turned red as she almost choked under Leila's stranglehold. She thought she was about to faint.

"Get out of my way! I'm leaving with her!" Leila finally gave up the idea of being together with Charles. Now that her illusion had been broken into pieces, the most important thing for her was to run for her life. Life in prison was hard, and she would never want to experience it again.
