Chapter 8.2

Sunghee threw the purse on the sofa and sat down. She just couldn’t decide who she should choose. She daydreamed for a little while until suddenly, she remembered a friend from her college days.

“Ah!”

Her friend’s name was Heesu, and Sunghee felt that Heesu might be able to help her come to a solution. They used to be good friends even though Heesu was very different from Sunghee. Heesu had many boyfriends even when she was a university student. She also had a lot of experience with sex. She had always told Sunghee to get as much experience with men as possible if she wanted to find the right man for herself. Heesu was a kind friend and Sunghee remembered her fondly. Two years after they graduated, Heesu married the young CEO of the company she was working for. Everyone expected her to marry well, so no one was surprised.

Sunghee thought Heesu might be able to give her an answer. After Heesu got married, they have been out of touch, but Sunghee felt certain she could call her. But it was late at night now, so it seemed rude to call her at the moment. So Sunghee found Heesu’s phone number and sent a text, asking her to call her whenever she had the time.

Sunghee expected Heesu to call in a few days, but when her phone rang within a few minutes, she jumped. This was very unexpected.

“Hello? Heesu?” Sunghee answered.

“Sunghee?! It has been so long.”

Heesu’s voice sounded the same. She sounded so cheerful as usual that it made Sunghee smile. Sunghee asked,

“I know! Long time no see. How have you been?”

“I’m well, of course. How about you? Have you gotten married yet?” Heesu asked.

“Gosh, of course not. Do you have some time to chat? Is your husband not home?”

Heesu giggled and replied,

“He’s away on a business trip. Why do you ask?”

“Oh, really? Well, I wanted to ask you some questions about something personal. I was hoping we could meet sometime whenever you’re free,” Sunghee replied.

“Are you working tomorrow?” Heesu asked.

Tomorrow was Sunday and Sunghee didn’t have any plans. She answered lightly,

“No, I’m fine. Should we meet tomorrow then?”

“If it’s something urgent, I’m free now actually. Where do you live? Do you still live in that same apartment near the Yeoksam station?” Heesu offered.

Right now? Sunghee looked at the clock on the wall. It was 11 o’clock. Well, she was alone and free at the moment. Besides, she told Sejin she was meeting a friend today. If she met Heesu, then technically, she wouldn’t have lied to him. But Sunghee found it strange that Heesu wanted to see her so late at night. Sunghee asked,

Come and read on our website wuxia worldsite. Thanks

“Are you sure you’re okay to see me now? Even if your husband is away on a business trip, you’re a married woman. Is it really okay for you to be out and about this late at night?”

Sunghe asked in a teasing voice, but Heesu replied firmly,

“Of course it’s okay. You’re my friend, and friends are very important to me. I’ll be there in 30 minutes, okay?”

“Sure, come on over.”

Sunghee hung up and went to the kitchen to prepare some snacks.

Heesu brought a bottle of wine with her. Sipping on the white drink, Heesu and Sunghee chatted. Sunghee told her all about her past dating life. She told Heesu about her last boyfriend,

“So he ended up being a dud. He married his boss’s daughter and left me to rot alone. What a bastard, right? Don’t I have the worst luck?”

Heesu nodded and patted Sunghee’s shoulder. Heesu said to her consolingly,

“Listen, forget about him. You said sex with him wasn’t that great, right? So why are you upset about it? I know he hurt your pride a little, but this is for the better. You need to think of your future. Can you imagine living the rest of your life with someone like him?”

“That’s true,” Sunghee replied with a giggle.

Heesu smiled as well and sipped on her white wine. It has been many years since Sunghee last saw Heesu. Sunghee found her friend a little thinner now. Heesu’s earrings and clothes looked expensive, and her hair and body looked great. But somehow, Heesu looked unhappy to Sunghee. Sunghee remembered her friend as a giggly young woman. Heesu rarely got angry, and even when she did, she was easy to appease.

It seemed that Heesu had her own problems, so Sunghee felt hesitant to bring up her own troubles. But after emptying her glass, Heesu looked straight into Sunghee’s eyes and asked,

“So tell me what you wanted to talk to me about. Stop beating around the bush and just get to it already, Sunghee.”

Sunghee sighed deeply. She didn’t know where she should start, so she just blurted it out.

“So some time ago, I met… a guy. I mean, I kinda knew him a little before, but I got drunk one night and slept with him.”

“You? Jo Sunghee?! Wow, what a huge improvement for you!”
