Chapter 6.6

Monday morning, Sunghee arrived at work later than Sejin. As she walked in, she couldn’t help but frown. She spotted all the male coworkers circling around Sejin and chatting excitedly.

“You must be going on a blind date, aren’t you, Sejin?”

“Good for you. I’m envious. I wish someone would set me up too. A life without a woman is such a sad one.”

It was obvious why everyone seemed so excited. Smiling, Sunghee entered the office. When Yura saw her, she waved her hand.

“Did you see Ryu Sejin today?”

“Not yet. Why?”

“He looks so much better. I couldn’t believe it. He got a haircut,  and he even wore nice clothes.”

Sunghee glanced at Sejin, who pouted at her. With a smile, she turned back towards Yura, and raised her eyebrows knowingly.

“So are you interested in him now or something?

“No way. Of course not.”

Yura shook her head emphatically and frowned.

“A change in appearance doesn’t change the person inside. I mean, he’s still the same anti-social guy he has always been. Look at him! Everyone is giving him compliments, yet he’s frowning and sitting quietly like that. I hate an outcast type like him.”

But was it wrong to be quiet when you’re surrounded by the people you didn’t care for? It couldn’t be. Of course, Sunghee was the type who would make an effort to get to know everyone if she had to work with them in the same office. But she believed that everyone had the right to react differently. She no longer thought Sejin was doing something wrong by being quiet.

Oh, wait… What was happening to her? For the longest time before she got to know Sejin, Sunghee thought he was strange too. So why was she now feeling differently about him? This was wrong. With a frown, Sunghee turned to Yura again.

“You know what? I think you’re right. Change in someone’s appearance doesn’t mean anything.”

“See? On the other hand, look at our Manager Min! Ahh!”

When Yura ogled the manager with her hands clasped together like she was praying, Sunghee rolled her eyes.  Min Seungju, who was just walking in, smiled when he spotted a group of people surrounding Sejin.

“Did something happen? Oh, Sejin. You changed your hair.”

Seungju made a light comment and sat down in his seat. With a pout, Sunghee watched the manager secretly. That’s all he had to say? That Sejin’s hair changed? That’s it?! But Sejin got a new pair of glasses too. Even his outfit was brand new.

But Seungju didn’t seem interested. He organized some papers on his desk before looking up to see Sunghee staring at him. He gave her a small smile as if they shared a special secret. Suddenly, Sunghee realized that it was only two days ago when they went out together to watch a musical.

OMG. She has been so preoccupied with the time she spent with Sejin that she had completely forgotten about Min Seungju. Well, she didn’t really forget about him, but it felt like their date happened a million years ago.

Just what was going on with her? The hottest man in the office was interested in her, yet she was getting seriously involved with the guy no woman was interested in!

But… This not-so-popular guy was SOOO good in bed! They had a lot of fun together.

“This is a problem… A big problem…”

Trying not to be noticed by Min Seungju, Sunghee lowered her head and pretended to be busy. Yura, who heard Sunghee mumble, glanced at her and asked,

“What are you talking about? What problem?”

Sunghee looked at Seungju and turned towards Yura as she whispered,

“You know… Don’t you think Manager Min has small eyes? I never really noticed it because he’s always smiling, but they are actually really small.”

Yura rolled her eyes and replied,

“Hey, who cares about his eyes? The most important quality in a man is his career potential and money.”

Yura’s answer was a callous one, but it was the truth. Sunghee sighed deeply. It wasn’t that she was looking for a filthy rich man, but she couldn’t help hoping for someone who had some money, or at least had the potential to make a decent living. This was especially the case since Sunghee didn’t think she had a great career ahead of her.

Suddenly, she heard a loud rattle of a chair. She turned to find Sejin standing up and leaving without a word. As usual, his shoulders were hunched, making her frown. She really needed to get him one of those T-shaped rulers, so she could tape it on his back. Why couldn’t he fix his posture?

Sunghee heard her coworkers whispering nearby.

“Don’t you think he’s so weird? He doesn’t react to anything anybody says to him. He does his work, but he never shows any initiatives either.”

“I find him a little scary. He may be quiet on the outside, but who knows what he’s thinking inside?”

“I know. He’s so strange.”

Sunghee pouted unhappily. It wasn’t like they complimented him earlier because they genuinely cared. So how could they talk behind his back like this?

Wait… Why was she continuing to side with Sejin all of a sudden? It was true that she probably knew Sejin better than anyone in the office, but still…

Sunghee sighed deeply. Suddenly, Seungju tapped his desk loudly and announced,

“Let’s get back to work, everyone. Gossiping really doesn’t help anybody, okay?”

Everyone, including the ones who were whispering about Sejin, quieted down. Yura grabbed her chest as if she was touched by Seungju. She whispered to Sunghee,

“Manager Min is so brave and kind. Don’t you think so?”

Sure, why not? Whatever. Sunghee just shook her head.
