Chapter 141 - The Adventures Of Millie And Dante

Dante was practicing with his sword in the courtyard. Today was the day that Seri had off. Although, he could be considered to have the day off as well, he still chose to spend it practicing.

It was also the day that he wasn't attached to William's side. When he entered the Academy, Dante started slowly spending less time at William's side. After all, William had more than enough knights in the background watching.

Even though Dante was becoming more independent from William, most of the time he stuck to him like glue. Everyone thought this was because they were extremely close friends and that Dante was William's personal knight.

However, this wasn't the case. The real reason behind Dante's attachment was something completely different. But that was something only Dante would know, and he wasn't interested in telling anyone the true reason why.

So today, he enjoyed his time practicing the sword alone while William was visiting with his parents and doing his princely duties. Dante was more than happy to practice the day away. Nothing would make him stop even for a moment...

... Well almost nothing.

Dante stopped when he noticed Millie in the distance, quickly walking with a hurried expression. Dante put the sword into it's sheath and followed after her with a frown.

She was definitely up to something.

Dante was a simple, yet complicated person. Although to others he appeared friendly and warm, he was actually quite the opposite. He was actually quite cold and indifferent. And more importantly...

...He hated smiling more than anything.

It wasn't until he met Seri that he began to feel different things. It was the first time he had laughed with all this heart and smiled from happiness.

But when he faced everyone else, he felt no such thing. Even with William, he didn't feel any bond. Instead, he felt more of a duty to watch over him more than anything. But there was one feeling he did feel when facing everyone except Seri.

That was sheer anger and hatred.

He hated Artie for always being so close to her. He hated Mary for trying so hard to get Seri to like her. He even hated William for his obvious affections towards Seri. But who did he hate and loathe more than anyone and anything?

Well that would be Millie.

Whenever he saw her, he wanted to smash that fake smiling face of hers. Whenever he saw her cling to Seri, his hand always itched wanting to pull out his sword and decapitate her. However, he couldn't. Why?

Well this would be because of Seri of course.

It was no secret that Seri treasured Millie. If Millie said a hairpin was cute, Seri would buy it for her. If Millie pretended to be upset, Seri would drop everything for her. If Millie said to jump, Seri would say "how high?"

It was incredibly irritating to witness. Actually, their relationship was extremely questionable. Some wondered if there was perhaps something more scandalous occuring between the two.

However, Dante knew better than to think this. He understood why Millie was so interested in Seri. He also knew how dangerous Millie's affection was.

But Seri was almost blind to Millie's intentions. Dante had always known Seri to be remarkable at understanding people at first glance. However with Millie, it was almost as if she was ignoring it.

There was also something Dante never understood. Whenever Seri looked at Millie, there were times when something strange flashed in her eyes. It was a bittersweet and lonely expression. Seri looked at Millie as if she were a ghost, or a memory of someone she used to know. He couldn't understand why she would look at her like that.

And one could say Dante was excellent at reading and understanding Seri's expressions. He knew when she was anxious. He knew when she was up to no good. He knew everything because he had been watching her so closely all these years.

So he knew all too well how much Seri treasured and trusted Millie.

However, he didn't trust Millie in the slightest. But that didn't matter. It was Seri's decision after all.

So when he saw Millie, he knew he had to follow her. She was probably planning something again. He caught up to her and grabbed onto her arm. He glared at her with hateful eyes, "What are you doing?"

She turned to him with viper like eyes. She sneered, "None of your business. Just go back to your little sword playing."

She pulled her arm back and started walking away. She paused, then turned back to Dante with a sly smile. Her voice sounded sweet, masking her true intentions. "On second thought. Perhaps you should come."

Dante had a feeling this wouldn't be good.

"It seems our dear Seri is going on a date today."

Dante was suddenly flooded with more anger, "A date?"

Millie nodded, "That's right. I was just on my way to go follow her. Perhaps you would want to come along?"

Dante grunted in agreement and followed after Millie. Although he calmly did so, he remained watchful the entire time. He was too suspicious of Millie to relax even for a second.

They finally arrived in the city and jumped into an alley when they came across Seri talking to an older man. Seri was laughing in a carefree manner while the man had a rather excited expression on his face.

Millie frowned and whispered, "Why would Seri be interested in him? He's completely average."

Dante agreed, "But she seems to be having fun..."

This put both Dante and Millie in a bad mood. Dante was itching to stab the man with his sword.

How dare he talk to Seri with such an expression? He ought to kill him because of the audacity!!

Millie's face darkened, "That bastard. He even touched Seri's arm!"

Millie too, had similar thoughts as Dante.

Seri and the man spoke for a little while longer then started walking off.

Dante growled, "Let's keep following."

Dante and Millie followed the two and stopped when they noticed them walk into a lower class coffee shop. Millie and Dante stood on the opposite side of the street and tried to peer into the window as best they could given the distance.

Luckily, Seri and the man sat at the table in front of the window. Seri's back was to them, but they could see the man's face perfectly well. The two of them seemed to be having an extremely animated conversation.

Millie bit her thumb in irritation, "How often do you see Seri act like that?!"

Dante's face grew dark, "Almost never."

"What could they possibly be discussing to make her act so excited?!"

"..."

Dante couldn't guess. But, either way he was angry.

Millie squinted her eyes, "Are they writing something now? I can't tell. It looks like she's writing a love letter or something. He seems so interested by it!!" She smacked Dante causing him to glare at her, "Tell me what she's writing."

"How would I know?"

She raised an eyebrow, "Aren't you a mutant or something? Can't you see it?"

Dante was struck with an urge to kill Millie. However, since his impulse control was good, he refrained.

He responded coldly, "How could I see if you can't. I'm not a mutant."

Millie clicked her tongue, "How useless..."

Why did Seri like this annoying girl so much?

They noticed Seri reach forward and touch the man's shoulder. He smiled back at her as Seri withdrew her arm.

"SERI JUST TOUCHED HIM!" Millie clenched her hands.

"I know." Dante growled back.

"Why did she touch him?!"

"How should I know?"

Millie muttered under her breath, "I'm going to make him suffer..."

The waitress came to Seri's and the man's table and laid out two plates of cake. Dante and Millie watched as Seri took a bite of the man's cake then held out her cake. He took a bite from it and blushed. From Dante and Millie's perspective, it looked like Seri was feeding him cake.

Dante and Millie were overwhelmed by murderous intent.

Millie grumbled, "Kill him... You need to kill him."

Dante grumbled back, "Why do I need to kill him? You kill him."

"Because you're the monster."

Dante glared at her, but she ignored him.

Millie's eyes widened, "Oh! They're leaving!"

Dante and Millie hid in the alley and waited until Seri and the man started walking away before following them. The man and Seri started taking quick turns and going down several side streets. Millie and Dante were having a hard time keeping up without being obvious.

Millie and Dante turned down another road and met with a dead end. Millie frowned, "Huh?"

"Are you two having fun?"

Millie and Dante turned around to see Seri standing with an irritated look and her hands on her hips. The man stood behind her with a friendly smile.

Millie quickly smiled sweetly, "Seri..."

Seri glanced at her, "What were you two doing following us?"

Dante raised an eyebrow, "You knew?"

"Of course I did. It was so obvious."

Millie ran over to Seri and snuggled into her. Seri's irritated expression melted away as she rubbed Millie's head lovingly.

Millie looked up at her with pitiful eyes, "I saw you with a strange man so I was concerned and got Dante."

Seri smiled, "This isn't a strange man."

Millie's interest peaked, "Then who is it?"

"It's my tutor."

The man bowed, "Good day. I'm Teacher Lin."

"Tutor??" Millie blinked in surprise, "Since when have you had a tutor?!"

Dante was surprised too, but he didn't show it. He recalled Seri mentioning him when she explained what happened those three years. But he didn't expect to ever run into him.

Seri smiled at her, "When I missed school those three years, he taught me instead."

Millie frowned, "But you two were talking so intimately... You both looked extremely happy."

Teacher Lin laughed, "We were discussing new theorems with each other."

"Theorems?" Dante asked coldly.

Seri nodded ecstatically, "Yeah! He's super great at math! I actually can learn things from him. It's refreshing to meet someone who isn't stupid, so of course I looked happy."

Millie frowned, "Then those love letters?"

Seri's face twitched, "Love letters? No. That was us recording our progress with the new theorems so we wouldn't forget."

Dante spoke, "Then why were you touching him on the shoulder?"

Teacher Lin's face grew dark, "Touching? She hit me so hard it gave me a bruise."

Seri shrugged, "There was a bug on your shoulder. I was killing it."

Millie asked, "Then what about the cake?! We saw you grab a bite of his, and then he took a bite of yours with your fork!"

Teacher Lin shook his head, "We wanted to try each other's cakes. Plus, I used my own fork."

Seri nodded, "It wasn't like I was feeding him or anything. Do you two have bad eyesight or something?"

Millie chuckled awkwardly and scratched her cheek, "Well... We were rather far away, so it was hard to see..."

Seri sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair, "Next time, could you two not stalk me?"

Both Millie and Dante shrugged.

Millie answered, "Maybe."
