Chapter 41 - Seri Just Can't Stay Out Of Trouble

After an awkward breakfast, the class went to the lodge. Today was our last day in the village since tomorrow we would be leaving on another awful 14 hour carriage ride to return home. For our last day activity, we are going ice skating.

Millie was much more excited than the rest of us. She kept skipping and humming happily, "I can't wait to go ice skating! I heard it's really fun."

I trailed behind her still moping over what happened the night before. Dante also made sure to stay as far away from me as possible without straying too far away from William. Dante appeared to be calm and collected, but occasionally he would walk into a tree. Then would act as if nothing happened without a single trace of expression on his face.

William was still confused about how we were acting and kept exchanging glances at us. Even though he didn't know what happened, he figured something must have occured for us to be acting so strange and unlike ourselves. However, no matter how much he asked, we both proclaimed fervently that nothing had happened.

Millie on the other hand, was completely oblivious to everything. She looked over to me with a bright smile, "Have you ever ice skated before?"

I did in my last world and I was god awful at it. I could stand on the ice with my skates on, but moving was out of the question.

I forced a smile, "No, never. You?"

She smiled back, "Never! It's going to be so exciting."

I mumbled under my breath, "You think everything is exciting, don't you?"

I can already tell that Dante and William will be perfect at it, Millie will be average, and I will bust my a** so many times I get covered in a fresh set of bruises.

William glanced at me, "Do we have to worry about you making another tooth fall out today?"

I waved him off, "No, no. I will be on my best behavior and be super careful. There's no need to worry."

He squinted his eyes slightly, "It's preciously because you say that, that I am very worried."

I glared at him, "Why would I lie? It's not like I want to lose all of my teeth on this trip. If I did, then I wouldn't be able to eat my dessert anymore!"

William stared at me for a moment before bursting into laughter. He covered his mouth still snickering.

"Oi! What's so funny?!"

He chuckled and forced himself to calm down, "Oh nothing. I was just imagining you with no teeth. Then it would be you who is the grandmother."

I shook with anger and made my hand into a fist. Right as I was about to hit him, he held out his hands. "Hey! You can't hit me!"

I answered mockingly, "Oh? And why not? I have two hands. What else would I use them for?"

He grinned, "Did you forget that you lost the bet? And the bet said that if you lost to me, you would have to be nice to me the entire trip."

I smiled still irritated, "Well it would be mean for me to not correct your awful behavior. By punching you, I would be acting nice."

William frowned, "What kind of logic is that?! That wouldn't be acting nice at all!"

"Would too!"

"Would not!"

Me and William continued to yell at each other without even realizing the group had come to a stop. The teacher looked at us, expecting us to notice him, but we were too busy arguing.

He cleared his throat, "Excuse me. Can I have your attention?"

William looked upset by his indecency and bowed, "I apologize."

I just grit my teeth and crossed my arms in irritation. William jabbed me. I glared, "What."

"Apologize."

"For what?"

"For-"

The teacher cleared his throat once more. William flushed in embarrassment and didn't dare to say anything else.

Noticing that he finally had everyone's attention, he motioned past a fence, "The Northern territories have wildlife in the fences that they protect from becoming endangered. As we walk to the lake you will be able to see them."

Several large deer and other woodland critters were in the fence munching on anything they could find. I squealed with happiness, "Ahhh! How cute! I just want to eat them all!"

William froze when he noticed the creatures on the other side of the fence. He unconsciously took a step back.

I noticed this and gave a sly smile, "What's wrong William? Afraid of the furry critters?"

He shook his head but still couldn't take his eyes away from them, "I'm n-not scared."

I giggled, "Oh really? So you'll even touch one?"

His face changed drastically to show how revolting this idea was to him. The teacher smiled at him peacefully, "There's nothing to worry about. As long as you don't cross the fence-"

I paid him no attention and in a swift movement I jumped over the fence. "Ahh! So cute! I've always wanted to visit a petting zoo!"

The teacher looked as if he was about to faint, "What are you doing?! It's not a petting zoo! These are wild animals!"

However, I was too distracted by the fluffy animals to pay him any attention. I held my arms out to the critters, "Lovely babies! Come get some lovin!"

The animals all looked up at the intruder with glares. They started charging after me. Everyone thought for sure this would be the last they would ever see of the idiotic girl Seri. However, much to everyone's surprise, the animals started snuggling me.

I giggled, "Hehe! That tickles. Ahh! You're so furry and soft!"

The giant deer nudged me and I nudged them back. I picked up a small white rabbit and rubbed my face on it's fur.

"You all are just so cute! I just want to eat you all up!"

Everyone was completely baffled by the scene in front of them. They were in fact wild animals. So why were they acting so domesticated?

William was the first to speak, "Why are they being so nice to you when you're talking about eating them?!"

I looked back at William with a sly smile slowly crossing my face. He knew this smile all too well and it sent shivers down his spine.

I rubbed the deer's neck affectionately, "Mr. Deer. You see that blonde child over there that acts like he is holier than thou?" The deer glanced in his direction making William freeze. I continued, "He's the one who killed your mama. Now sic em boy!"

The deer who had such a gentle and loving appearance now seemed as if fire shot in his eyes full of hatred. He started running towards William and hopped over the fence. William let out a shrill shriek and began running away quickly. I laughed maniacally as I watched the hilarious scene.

I slapped my knee, "That's it! Get em Bambi!"

After William was saved from the angry deer by Dante, the teacher began to scold me thoroughly. However, he quickly stopped as he noticed the animals behind me giving him the death stare. He quickly concluded and rushed us away from the wild creatures who were still staring daggers at us.

Millie spoke to me, "Wow Seri! Those animals really liked you. How did you do that?"

I shrugged, "I've always been good with animals."

William grumbled, "Perhaps because you ARE an animal."

I turned to him with a forced smile, "What was that William? You want to see Bambi again?"

He quickly shouted, "No!"

Dante giggled slightly and I looked over to him. Our eyes both met and we quickly jerked away.

Ah. I don't think we will ever be the same again.

We finally reached one of the lakes. The teacher spoke, "This is the lake we've been told to ice skate at. The ice is thick enough here, but not at some of the others so be careful not to go to any of them."

I ignored his instructions and began to put on my skates. Everyone else began to put on their skates as he finished. We all slowly made our way onto the ice.

Millie, William, and Dante had already made it onto the ice and were waiting for me. I took a step on it and kicked off. I concentrated hard to make sure I wouldn't fall.

Millie giggled, "Seri. You look so serious."

"Millie, don't distract me. If you distract me, I will fall."

William frowned, "You aren't even moving your legs."

I frowned back, "If I move my legs, then I will fall."

He replied, "So how are you going to get over here then?"

I paused for a second, "The wind? I could make a sail."

He began to grow impatient, "From what?"

Alright, perhaps I am being a bit ridiculous. It shouldn't be too hard to skate if these idiots can do it.

I went to skate forward and soon lost my balance. I flung my hands in the air as my feet flew off the ice trying to get a foothold. I looked like someone from an old time show that was dancing on marbles. My foot flung me too far and I landed with a hard thud. I lay on the ice staring at the sky with a blank expression.

I saw a hand come into vision. I grabbed it and they helped me up. I smiled, "Thank you-" I froze instantly at the sight of Dante.

"..."

"..."

He quickly released my hand and skated away without saying a word. I rubbed my backside. William skated over to me, "You're awful at this."

I stuck out my tongue, "Shut up."

He sighed and held out his hands, "Here." I looked at them with an eyebrow raised. His eyebrow jerked in irritation, "Just grab my hands. I will teach you."

I reluctantly agreed and he tried to help me skate. However, it was one battle that no one could win. Even with his help, I managed to fall on my butt several times, even dragging him down with me a couple times.

Unable to take it anymore I quit. "Ah. It's useless. Just bring me to the side of the lake. I will just sit there and wait for you."

He grinned, "You sure? I think you were improving."

I glared at him, "Don't even. If I fall anymore I will no longer have an a**."

"You had one to begin with?"

"Just shut up and get me off of this god d*mn lake."

He chuckled and dragged me to the side. I took off my skates and laid down on the snowbank. "Ahh. Sweet land. How I missed you."

He spoke, "I'm going back now."

I waved at him, "Alright. Have fun."

I sat for some time watching them all skate around. I yawned and felt like taking a nap. A cold breeze flew over me and I shivered.

God d*mnit. Why did I have to lose my scarf?! It's so cold!

I tried to shrink into my jacket to guard my neck. In that moment a strong breeze knocked my hat off of my head and tossed it far away.

Augh! I already lost my scarf! I can't lose my hat!

I gave chase after my hat, but everytime I reached for it, the breeze would blow it farther away.

Is this god d*mn wind playing games with me!?

My hat flew onto the top of a lake where it stayed, no longer affected by the wind. I went to take a step toward it, but hesitated.

Didn't the teacher say something about the other lakes? What was it again? Oh well. Probably nothing important.

I walked out onto the ice carefully and grabbed my hat. I sighed in relief. Finally. Something worked out for me. I smiled in triumph.

*Craack*

My face froze and grew dark. I looked down at my feet and noticed a large crack where I was standing.

God. F*cking. D*mnit.
