Chapter 105 - Who are You Talking To?

Before the cultist deaths were reported, the highest number of related deaths in Ting University was the collective suicide of seven students from the rooftop of the boy's dorm. Rumors said that a certain ghost influenced these deaths, the Weeper.

However, she had not been spotted in the boy's dorm anymore.

The truth wasn't actually far from the whispers in the wind. Ye Ling did infect those boys with the strong d.e.s.i.r.e to jump off because they were trying to throw someone off of the building.

Such a lonesome boy who knew too much electronics was annoying to the big-shots, and so they tried to get rid of him during a ghost night prank. It's just that a real ghost pushed them to their ends.

Only three people could have testified about this truth. One, Ruan Jin who was the victim and someone who had seen Ye Ling that night. Two, Li Feng who ran up to the rooftop that night and sensed the event. Lastly, Tang Ernian…

The ringleader.

It was Tang Ernian who initiated the plan. However, Li Feng called him that night, looking for him. Back then, Tang Ernian didn't know why Li Feng was catching his breath. If only he knew, he would have called it off.

Since Tang Ernian stepped out to the staircase to answer Li Feng, he wasn't there when Ye Ling attacked.

Only when he met Li Feng later did he realize what was going on. He quickly bolted from the place even before Li Feng could try to exorcise the woman. Tang Ernian grew hysterical and out-of-mind so Li Feng went to chase him instead, saving him from rolling down to his death.

However, right before his eyes was the same woman they all saw that night. Even if this was just the second time he had seen the Weeper, Tang Ernian had engraved her face deep in his mind.

"Ling, let him go." Ruan Jin called out, and Ye Ling released the man. The horseman then smoothed his clothes and walked past them. "I won't be merciful the next time."

"No more mercy..." Ye Ling chuckled as she caught up with Ruan Jin and walked behind him. She then smiled back at Tang Ernian whose face turned white all of a sudden…

"Aiya, that's so scary..." Ruan Jin sighed and hugged his body as if calming his heart. He then turned to Ye Ling. "Thanks for coming out. Anyway, are you okay now? You lost control last night."

"I didn't mean to..." Ye Ling stroked at the edges of her hair. "I didn't think Guangru's seed was so strong. His hatred was so strong that when I saw a shaman, I immediately blacked out and let the rage fly my body around."

"It's already okay now." Ruan Jin waved his hand. "So Guangru actually came to help out?"

Ye Ling eyed him before retracting her gaze. "When you visited Liu Xiaodan, Guangru realized that I was digesting the fruits of my labor. He took all of it away and gifted me with something way stronger. I didn't think it'd raise my power so much, enough to almost derail my mind."

She then blushed as she looked at Ruan Jin again. "I'm so happy that Ruan Lang kept on calling for me. If it wasn't for you, we would have died together. That's quite a happy ending for me, too, but… I don't want you to die because I didn't step out to protect you."

Faint red showed along Ruan Jin's cheeks as he pouted and scratched his head. He called out for Ye Ling so much last night that he sounded like a slaughtered pig inside his mind even before the butcher brought out the knife.

He then cleared his face. "Let's head to the station. I want to know what Detective Hung wants to know from me. I hope it's not me who's going to be forcefully jailed this time."

When they got to the station, he was led to the interrogation room by Detective Hung. On their first time doing this, Ruan Jin and his two other friends were almost sent to the detention cells. Now, Ruan Jin was quite apprehensive, but he didn't want to look guilty and ask for a lawyer.

"I need you to help me understand." Detective Hung placed a lineup of the girls that died that day. "Do you recognize any of them?"

"They're all popular girls in school from the Journalism Department. Film and TV Prod normally shared classes with them so I know them from our classes together." Ruan Jin only took a glance at the lineup since their faces had already been on his social media all day. "Am I being a suspect again?"

"No." Detective Hung was so sure that he wouldn't turn up at all. "Among the boys, is there a certain way for them to… to actually..." He just paused and massaged his forehead. "Excuse me, I have to step out for a moment..."

Ruan Jin only watched the detective leave. However, some items were actually left inside. The entire folder and the lineup were still in front of Ruan Jin. Detective Hung intentionally left them there, in case he would take interest in them. The other detectives were watching him from a camera room.

The lights began to flicker, and Ruan Jin only looked up at where the camera was. It was watching him from under the emergency light, and Ruan Jin was staring straight at it. The detectives were actually frowning as if they were staring back at Ruan Jin instead.

The man then looked down. "Ah, right… that's her. The one in a pink shirt. That's Shao Yi's girl. I remember her clearly.

"I don't see her often because she skips classes a lot, but I know her face." Ruan Jin was trying to conceal his mouth, but he seemed to be talking out loud. "I have no idea why she's in their dorm, probably telling girls that she could get boys up there.

"Ah, damn. Li Feng's gang is so desirable and popular that girls actually had routes for them to come up the girl's dorm without anyone knowing. I wonder if Li Feng had gone that route as well. To think about it, maybe Chuan Nayi knew because Huang Kun gets in a lot...

"Aiya, Xiaodan will kill me if those two got in trouble again because of those nasty dirty things..."

"Which ones?" A voice of a female sounded, and the detectives flinched upon hearing her.

Detective Hung just arrived in time to hear the woman. He joined the others in frowning at the woman's voice that neither sounded electronic nor… human. In their speakers, the voice sounded a little more like a howl; however, words could be made out.

"I don't know. Are there other children in the dorms aside from Guangru?" Ruan Jin leaned against his chair as if waiting for the detective to come back. He then stared at the folder and tried to stealthily open it. There were more photos inside.

Ruan Jin wasn't planning to take them out, but he saw the blood color in the first photo. He ended up pulling them out and taking a look at them. "Ah, shit, what could have done this? And why? Why would they walk all over the room?"

"It's probably the black thing and the masks..." the woman spoke again.

"Black thing?"

"Yeah. Remember when you guys climbed up the girl's dorm? You were looking for the black thing? It's like Guangru, but he's too weak to actually consume anyone in an instant. It had eaten some residents in frustration, and its last target was the masked girls."

Ruan Jin suddenly curled down as if trying to gag, but he was actually holding down a scream. He then hissed. "Shit, this is crazy. I have forgotten about that! So that thing can actually hurt humans, too?"

The woman hummed. "When I was there, the black thing still couldn't. Then again, the masked girls could actually generate enough power to produce some kind of electricity."

After a long pause, she continued. "I think the masked girls lured the black thing to the humans so it would feast on them, giving them enough time to escape."

"What?!" Ruan Jin couldn't help but yell. He clamped his mouth and curled down before talking with a hushed voice. "They can be that cruel?"

"No, but there are things that spirits loathed. Maybe they're breaking rules, and that infuriated the black thing." The photos then shuffled on the table, and then Ruan Jin lifted his head to take a look.

"Can't you tell? The women's clothes were hastily done. I have a feeling that they weren't alone when this happened…"

"There were witnesses, and they bolted out?!" Ruan Jin yelled and then whimpered again in his mistake. "F.u.c.k, Ling… if I went to see Shao Yi, will you stop me?"

"No, but why?"

Ruan Jin then gritted his teeth. He then fixed the photos and tried to place them neatly in front of the folder. He was seen looking at them already; he couldn't hide it anymore. "I think I can only say things that would lead the police to them? Wouldn't that mean Li Feng is going to get snagged again?

"I feel so bad about the man already,"—Ruan Jin then looked at the lineup of the girls—"but these girls need justice at least."

"Why don't you just go ask him? Let's go later after this..."

The man only nodded subtly before waiting in silence.

Soon, Detective Hung walked into the room with another detective. Ruan Jin wanted to apologize for opening the folder, but Detective Hung showed him his smartphone. A recording was ready to play in it. Ruan Jin only stared at it.

Detective Hung pressed play.

Ruan Jin's voice, "Ah, right… that's her. The one in a pink shirt. That's Shao Yi's girl. I remember her clearly. I don't see her often because she skips classes a lot, but I know her face. I have no idea why she's in their dorm, probably telling girls that she could get boys up there.

"Ah, damn. Li Feng's friends are so desirable and popular that girls actually had routes for them to come up the girl's dorm without anyone knowing. I wonder if Li Feng had gone that route as well. To think about it, maybe Chuan Nayi knew because Huang Kun gets in a lot…"

Pause.

Ruan Jin started to sweat and clench his fists. He then took a deep breath. "Please don't drag Chuan Nayi and Li Feng in this. They were in the hospital the entire time."

Detective Hung moved the slider and pressed play again.

A creepy, howling voice of a woman sounded: "Can't you tell? The women's clothes were hastily done. I have a feeling that they weren't alone when this happened…"

"Tell me…" Detective Hung spoke softly, "who are you talking to?"
