Chapter 445 - Enjoy The Rest Of The Night

Chi Mi must be out of her mind. She knew that for herself. But she could not stop it. She had to do it. If not, she was REALLY going to lose her mind.

The presentation was taking too long to be over that she was already scratching on the expensive upholstered seats. She needed to be near Qing Chen. Now.

She did not know what had gotten into her as well. But it was not like she was not enjoying it. Everything… everything… this final picture was just too much to bear. There was this primal instinct within her that was making her need him.

But she liked it…. So much.

Around twenty minutes later, they were finally called to the stage and were presented with a trophy. It was the first of its class in The Kingly Empire. It was ridiculous but Chi Mi was not about to refuse an award even though she already had more than she could count in her life.

She smiled for the pictures. She knew that there was a question and answer portion for another fifteen minutes so she sat on the stage, enlightened the people about their queries.

Chi Mi did not want to, but her eyes kept on sliding towards Qing Chen who was positioned at the left side of the front row. The seat next to him was still empty.

Now, where could have Mrs. Qing gone?

Did she already leave?

Leaving Qing Chen all for her taking?

Everyone was directed to the adjoining function room for some light meals. Chi Mi thought that the questions would have already stopped but a few more people came closer to her as she was fixing herself a little plate with shrimp dipped in some unusual-colored sauce. She tried her best to nod and smile, but she had enough and redirected their attention to her other teammates.

She knew that her team would be uncomfortable in this kind of scenario—it was the main reason why she had been the one chosen to be their voice. Despite herself, she was the only one with enough guts to actually step up to the occasion. But she really needed to come closer to Qing Chen.

Once she was free of all the people, she rushed to her feet and ignored the people who were calling her towards their table, probably to ask more questions, but she was already making a beeline for the man that she came for.

Qing Chen was in the middle of a group of men. She recognized one of them as Qing Chen's little brother who, in her eyes, was the cheap version of the original one.

"Well, if it isn't the lady of the hour," said one of the men. She relished the appreciative glance he gave her although some women would call it inappropriate. "Your invention is great. If there's anything else you're working on, our company would love to hear about it."

Then there was a business card. Her purse was already getting heavy with all the cards that she received tonight. Just what was it with rich people and their desire to introduce themselves and rub it in your face how rich they were (or how poor you were).

"Thank you, I will keep this in mind," she smiled. She let the man ask her a few questions that were already technically answered during the forum.

From the corner of her eyes, she was watching Qing Chen. His brother had disappeared and a young slim woman in a pretty dress latched on his arm. Qing Chen's eyes were scanning the room. He was probably looking for his wife.

Chi Mi thought about the dazzling woman who was clad in a cream white pantsuit whose inner shirt exposed her well-toned stomach muscles and collarbones. Chi Mi had wanted that kind of ensemble when they went out shopping with the PR manager, but unfortunately that was not the kind of look Violet had for her. It was the reason why she was wearing a conservative black long-sleeved shirt and an ankle length cheetah-printed skirt.

The man who had been quizzing her finally had enough and patted Qing Chen on the shoulder and wished him good luck on this venture.

Then they were finally alone.

"Are you going to say that it's a success?" she opened a conversation before Qing Chen could move away from her.

Qing Chen nodded at her curtly. "Yes, I will say that it will be a success. Tonight went well. Now all we have to do is look out and wait on how will the public react to it, although we already predicted that it will all be positive."

"Your father sold it really well."

"He sure did," Qing Chen answered. "Excuse me, I have to go speak with some people."

"Oh, of course." You're not going to get away from me, she thought in her mind, as she pretended to lose her footing as she was turning and ended up tilting her glass on his hand. The water dripped to the floor. "I'm so sorry!"

In an instant, a waiter appeared and handed Qing Chen a napkin. "It's alright," he said to her. "You might want to take it easy on the champagne." He sent her a smile that could easily chill her bones.

But she did all she needed to do.

All she needed was for that liquid to touch his skin.

"I'm very sorry again, Mr. Qing."

"Enjoy the rest of the night, Ms. Chi."

She grinned at the back of his head. "Oh, I definitely will."

=======

Qing Chen was just glad to be out of proximity from Ms. Chi. He hated that he had to keep an eye on her just that he could be on the opposite side of the room from her.

He was socializing when he felt the growing pressure starting in the middle of his brain. It felt like the floor tipped.

What on earth was happening?
