Chapter 415 - Devil Incarnates

Wuming was already in the Enigma office, which was at the floor below The Gentlemen's Club. The first that he was there when he came back, he already did the initial scan of the place. There weren't much that was inside. To be honest, it looked more like a filing cabinet and a storage room rather than an office.

It had always looked like that even when he was younger. He honestly didn't see the sense of not leaving any evidences on who owned the office when the illegal operations were happening on the very soil of The Kingly Hotel.

For him, it was stupid. If he had been boss, he would've decorated the whole place; paint the walls red and buy figurines and spray paint them in gold and display them everywhere. But he was NOT boss and Qing Chen could not be bothered to make an effort in a place that he did not want to be in the first place.

Wuming took one of the black folders on top of the desk and continued his thought as his eyes roamed around the numbers.

He didn't want to be boss here either. It was one of the reasons why he left. He couldn't live like this. He couldn't be bothered with doing mundane things. And paperwork… whoever it was who invented paperworks… well, Wuming hopes that they were happy wherever they are.

"Oh, I see you're finally interested in that," said a voice from the open door.

It was Qing Lok who took the seat beside him in front of the empty table. He ran a hand through his tousled hair and pulled out his phone from his pocket, quickly opening up a game.

"I'm not interested. I could barely understand this."

Qing Lok snorted. They both knew he was lying.

Wuming had been one of those people who abhorred anything that was related to anything mathematical. But unfortunately, even when he already took another path, as much as he didn't want to admit it, it was still needed. Sometimes, he was not ordered to kill someone. There were jobs that only required him to squeeze himself through air ducts and find information. Now, he couldn't photocopy and take pictures of every single paper there, could he?

Now his brain was wired with all the basic mathematics at least. He understood everything that was on the paper. He might not be as fast as Qing Chen—hell, that kid's brain was something else when it comes to this—but he could definitely say that he would not get a failing mark if he was going to take charge in it.

Wuming flipped the folder close. "Do you think Qing Chen would be grateful if I take Enigma out of his hands?"

Qing Lok grinned. "Oh, he would give you whatever it is that you want. Take it and it's yours. Maybe he'd even build you a temple."

"Never mind then," he said, shifting on his seat. "I love seeing him suffer."

They both laughed at that, but hidden in that laughter was the knowledge that everything that they enjoy today was because of Qing Chen, because he was the one keeping everything together.

"What's so funny?" said a new voice.

"Speaking of the devil," said Wuming. "Done with the office?"

Qing Chen took a seat in front of them with a sigh. "Thankfully."

Wuming called to the guards from the door and ordered them drinks. "Now let's get down to business."

"We have no business," snided Qing Lok.

Qing Chen only rolled his eyes on his youngest brother's remark. "I've already looked at the numbers."

"Yeah, it will go down in the next three months," said Wuming.

"Obviously," said Qing Lok.

Wuming also knew that Qing Lok was throwing a tantrum. He was such a kid and the best way to make it stop was to ignore it. "It's not like we need that money, right?"

Qing Chen was raised a new black folder with white writing at the front. FINANCIAL STATEMENTS was written in slim font. He passed it to Wuming. "Turn to the last page."

Wuming knew they were rich. But he could choke on this money. ANYBODY would choke on this money.

"We've never needed that side of the business for a while."

'A while' would have been an understatement. "This is f.u.c.k.i.n.g crazy," he muttered under his breath. Wuming had never seen the annual reports in Enigma until now. He had only been in charge of the monthly reports. "How are you laundering this, Chen?"

Qing Chen sucked on his lips. "That's one of the problems. Most of our money are in other countries, hidden in banks with different names."Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #'s-rose-married-the-ceo_15939261805465305/devil-incarnates_52450394105760350 for visiting.

"What was father thinking?"

"As far as The Kingly Empire is concerned, we only have the hotel properties and shares in other companies."

From the side, Qing Lok clicked his tongue. "It's not even the money that we should be worried about." He quit his game and tossed his phone on the desk with a loud clattering sound. "You know we're going to be in deep trouble if La Hiena would find someone as his passageway here in Chengshi."

"Then they can have fun claiming our position," said Qing Chen pointedly. "But we're done with it."

"A new mafia would start here. They are going to be powerful."

"Then so be it."

Wuming finally lifted his head from the papers. "He's right, Lok. We're still the highest bidders here. We'll remain protected. You don't have to worry so much. Aren't you interested in having… you know… a cleaner life?"

Qing Lok's face twisted. "What do you mean cleaner life? We're mafia," he said. "It's in our blood."

"I guess that's the blood that you're planning to pass on your future children?" Qing Chen snapped.

Qing Lok looked astounded. For a second, he couldn't speak. "But we are fine. It's not like we live bad lives—"

Wuming tossed his head back and laughed. "Brother, I don't know what your definition is bad, but in the majority's eyes, we are already devil incarnates. So…"

"No, I didn't mean it like that," Qing Lok's eyes were flaming. "What I meant was we are comfortable. We didn't live in fear. We are in charge of this city. We know everything that happens here."

"That doesn't need to change," said Qing Chen. "We're going to be fine, Lok. You just have to trust us on this."

Qing Lok crossed his arms over his chest. He knew that he was not going to win this argument. Besides, it was already done. They severed ties with La Hiena.

"We're family, Qing Lok," said Qing Chen. "We stand by each other. We can't live this life anymore."

"I guess that's the kind of legacy that you want, Chen," said Qing Lok scornfully. "But not me."
