Chapter 407 - You Can Never Bring Her Back

Later that night, Feng Xuan was in her office. Maybe it was the events of the day or that she knew deep inside that she was supposed to be working still, but she could not sleep. So there she was staring into space, her chin on top of her hands.

She had a few more things to attend to today but her body refused to move. What could she do about her invitation to her mother-in-law? She was not thinking clearly when she said those words.

It was a sudden rush of emotion. Of anger.

Thinking about lunch made her want to shake her head. Maybe she should really side with the brothers. Their mother was kind of shitty. She would rather die than trying to make peace with her sons.

What kind of thinking was that?

If that was what's going on in her mind, then Feng Xuan was not surprised that her sons were thinking of the same thing.

That it would be best if their mother was gone.

Qing Chen knocked on her door.

"Come in," she said.

Her husband was smirking from the doorway. "Thinking about what you're going to do?"

"A bit," she admitted.

"It's not going to happen, Xuan. My mother's dead. At least in society's eyes. You can never bring her back there."

She wanted to run a hand through her hair but didn't want to give Qing Chen the satisfaction that he was right. "It's going to be fine. I'll think of something."

"You won't be able to catch a wink of sleep if you're going to continue like this. Just let it go. Retract the invitation." He crossed his arms on his chest and leaned against the doorframe. "It's not happening, Xuan. Just accept it. You can't revive a dead person from the dead. How are you going to explain it to other people when they see her in the arm of my father?"

She took a silent deep breath. Then, she flicked through the folder inside her bag and pulled out the cream colored paper. It was thick and it was embossed with thin lines that made it look like it was made from tree bark.

She showed the invitation to Qing Chen with a sweet smile. She took one of her best pens and dipped the end in gold ink. Next to the word 'Dear,' she wrote Hao Suyin. She lightly blew on it and showed it to her husband.

"She'll be there," Feng Xuan said.

Qing Chen stared at her, taking her challenge. "Alright, wife," he said and nodded. Then disappeared back in their bedroom.

It seemed like it was a week for unexpected visitors because the following day, Feng Xuan's father showed up at YANG. He was looking bright and happy. One of the deals he had been worrying about lately must've worked out.

He looked like he could throw a feast that day. He invited her daughter to lunch, and Feng Xuan eager to get an hour or two away from work more than willingly came.

They went to Feng Xuan's favorite restaurant and her father ordered all of her favorites.

"What's going on?" she asked him once the food arrived. They have already covered the small talk while waiting. "You're really cheery."

"I haven't seen you in a while."

At some point, Feng Xuan was suspecting that this was one of Qing Chen's plan to remove his mother from her invitees in the party. But what could her father do about it? Another thing, Qing Chen was the kind of gentleman who would not do anything even though he knows that you're doing something against him. Not to her anyway.

"And?" she pressed, biting down on a small rice cake.

"Can't I see my daughter?"

She groaned. "Father, we are both busy people. We don't have time for this."Find authorized novels in , faster updates, better experience, Please click #'s-rose-married-the-ceo_15939261805465305/you-can-never-bring-her-back_52181802957207688 for visiting.

Feng Lizhao adjusted himself on his seat. "Well, I have heard that you quit your job at The Kingly."

Ah, so this is what he wanted. "Yes. Too boring. I don't think I belong behind a desk."

"My thoughts exactly. You could be a great ambassadress, you know?"

"Ambassadress of what?"

"Of our company."

"Father, we both work for The Kingly Empire. We merged, remember?"

"Yes, we did. However, you could do so much more if you're with me. Wouldn't you like to travel for a little while? Meet a lot of people from different countries? Make deals? Stamp our names on a foreign land?"

Her father's job mainly involved him closing deals with foreign investors and creating more business opportunities for The Kingly Empire. He was the main representative of this multi-billion company.

"But I like what I'm doing at the moment."

"I know that you like it," her father said. "I'm just saying that if you want, there's a spot for you in this branch of the company. Aren't you interested with what your father is doing?"

Feng Xuan cringed a little. "I'm not really a people person."

"Neither was I!" he said with a smile. "I stick out like a sore thumb remember? But it all changed because it had to."

"Qing Chen's father passed his charisma to you," she said.

"He shared it," her father laughed.

Now that the Qings were back in her mind, she could not help but ask. "Are you up to date with everything that's happening with their family?"

"Of course, I know," said Feng Lizhao. "Hao Suyin…" his fingers flexed like he did not know what he should say after that. He cleared his throat, starting again. "We shouldn't get involved in their matters, daughter."

"But we're family."

"I know, but their family is different. You weren't there when it happened. Your husband and his brothers are probably having a hard time right now. They will be able to forgive their mother. Just let them be."

Feng Xuan didn't want to just let it be. Well, at least she wanted to try at least once. If it wasn't going to work, then it won't work. She just knew that she would regret if she would let an opportunity pass by.

Because at least SOMEONE was trying to get their family together.

"If that's your advice, then thank you," she told her father, dipping a spoon in her bowl, swirling. "Will you answer some questions for me?"

"It depends."

"Do you have a secret?"

Her father's eyebrows rose to his forehead. "Everyone has secrets."

"Is there still something that you're not telling me? Something about myself?"

"I figured you already know everything that you need to know when your memories came back," his forehead creased. "Right?"

Feng Xuan looked away. Her father was a good liar. He lied to her ever since her mother died. He went on with her new memories and supported the new person that she became, when he shouldn't have.

"Did… Is there something that you would like to know specifically?"

Feng Xuan could see in her father's eyes that he was calculating. Yeah… there was something there. But how would she know if he was lying?

"I would like to ask about my mother."

He nodded grimly. "Then let's talk about her."
