Chapter 368 - Needed to Burn

On the day of her supposed death, Hao Suyin was so nervous. She was not in the right state of thinking. She was convinced that any moment, she would change her mind. She could herself buckling from all the pain that she was experiencing.

Every time she caught site of one of her boys, she just wanted to run and hug them in her arms. But she could not because she was not allowed to raise suspicions. She had to leave this world peacefully in the least conspicuos way.

She and Qing Zihao made sure that they were the only ones in the house that knew about this plan. They needed it to be foolproof.

While her sons were busy with their day activities, Hao Suyin was getting ready setting things up for the fire that was supposed to happen. It needed to be big and she needed the people out of the house so she sent the majority of the maids into the supermarket—telling them they need to shop for a big party that they were holding on the weekend.

It had been a while since she did something devious. She was nervous. What if she did not have in her anymore? What if she got too attach in being a mother that she did not know how to come back to her old self?

Hao Suyin started small that day, she lit a match and watched as it burned for a few seconds. When the heat got too close to her fingertips, she dropped it and the end of her skirt suddenly caught on fire. Panicked, she stomped it with her shoe.

She dropped down on her seat again and sighed. She was disappointed with herself. Hao Suyin went downstairs and turned the lock on the smoke alarm inside the house.

It needed to burn.

Then she needed towels that she would set up in each room. She would douse those in gas and light them all one by one.

She was shocked to find Qing Wei at the bas.e.m.e.nt rummaging through some dirty boxes. They made small talk and she quickly grabbed a few towels and disappeared from his view.

She didn't want to stay that long. She was going to be obvious. She was going to be so emotional. There was a small gas can at the small shed and dipped each towel inside. After that, she kept them in a small plastic and rushed inside the house.

Every room was given one towel. She put it on top of the most flammable things—the carpet, the couch, the curtains. Then at the end of the hallway, she decided to visit her youngest.

She pushed open his door and found that he was lying on his stomach, busy on a game console he couldn't put down for the past week. "Hey," she greeted him, fighting the urge to cuddle him on the bed.

"Hello, Mother," Qing Lok said, sparing her a second with a small smile.

"How's your game?"

"It's great," he answered.

"You look like you haven't slept in days."

Qing Lok nodded, "Your observation skills are on point, Mother. I haven't had any sleep for the past three days, I think. You need to help me."

With growing boys… often times they divert away from their Mothers. They were finding their own way in this world and they want to do things their way. It was nice to know that they—at least one of her sons—still needed her.

She stepped inside the room and offered her hand to him. "Come on, give it up for today. Get some sleep," she said. Surely, he would awaken at the smell of smoke. His brothers would come for him too.

Qing Lok smiled at her. Her beautiful son. "Here."

She tucked him in and placed a kiss on top of his hair. She quickly pulled away when she felt that her tears were coming. "I'll see you later, okay?"

"Yes, Mother," he said, already half-asleep. "I love you."

Her chest ached so much she wanted to pull her heart out and leave it there. "I love you too, son."

She set the console on the table that she passed and took out the box of matches she had kept in her pocket.

**

She was out of the house by the time that the few licks of fire was already on the walls. Then the show was going to begin. Two of her sons were still missing. Panic and fear gripped her. What if they would not make it out?

She could not help it. All of her instincts was telling her to go back inside, to save two of her boys. She had to get in there.

Before she could even process what she was doing, she was back inside the house. This was where they should find her. They needed to label her death asphyxiation. She had to appear that she got locked in one of the rooms and could not get out.

But she roamed around the place. She did not even notice that Qing Chen followed her inside. She was about to go to the second floor to check her other children when she passed by her sun room.

Without thinking, she got inside even if the flames were already up the walls. The painting on her easel contained all of her secrets. She did not know why she grabbed it and shoved it on Qing Chen's chest. Her mind went blank for a second.

Why did she give it to Qing Chen? He was going to figure it out if she was not being careful.

So she said the first thing that came to her mind. "Burn it."

He looked confused, shocked, exhausted. Before he could utter another word, she pushed him towards the end of the hallway, telling him to leave that she would closely follow.

Qing Chen gave her one last glance and she knew it would be the last time that she would see him.

Hao Suyin did not have the time to think about how sad she was feeling knowing that it was the last time that she was going to be seeing her secondborn. It broke her heart into a million pieces but there was a more pressing matter that she had to attend.

Her two sons… Lok...Wei…

She had never reached this state ever. She was… frantic. She felt like she was going to lose her mind checking all the rooms and sometimes even burning her palms with the hot knobs. Everything around her was hot. She felt like she was boiling. She had never felt heat this way before.

If this was how hell would feel? She better look for some ways to make herself immortal. She had no plans spending eternity in this kind of hole.
