Chapter 322 - Can I Kill Them?

Qing Chen just got out of his meeting and when he came back, he found that both of his brothers were in his office. "Any updates?" he asked both. It was already past lunch and he hadn't eaten anything yet.

Wuming went first. "Great news, they're people I can kill," he grinned.

"Oh," Qing Chen said. "Are you sure that they look like they could really kill someone?"

"Well, I think everyone can kill someone. It's basic instinct to want to survive. When it comes down to that, those two would probably kill father."

"So they don't look like they would kill him at first sight?"

"No, Chen!" Wuming said. "Stop thinking like that. It's father's life on the line. We can't take risks. Even if they look like harmless bunnies, our father is a fugitive who has escaped the law way too many times. Besides those two might be assassins just posing as agents."

"I counter that," said Qing Lok. "The Investigation Service really do exist. It's still a small organization with limited operations."

"So why do they want our father?" Qing Chen asked.

"Here's the thing," Qing Lok opened a folder and showed it to his brothers. "They are already running out of funds—"

"But they stayed in the hotel. It's expensive."

"I know. It's because they are given their last budget. Their main objective is to catch father. If they catch a big fish they would still be allowed to operate.

"So they are really here for father… not for mom," Qing Chen thought aloud. He pressed his pen repeatedly, thinking. His mind drifted back to yesterday when he found a note on his desk. Qing Chen ran his hands through his perfectly combed hair.

"Can I kill them?" asked Wuming.

Qing Chen could not help but smile at that. "You're just looking to satisfy your bloodl.u.s.t."

"How's your date with your friend? I heard you took her," Qing Lok said. And when he said 'heard', he meant he checked the CCTVs. He didn't try to look at her face so he only checked the camera in the parking.

"Do you think she could be of service to us? I'm willing to pay."

"Pft," said Qing Lok. "Why do we have to pay them? I think they would willingly do it. Tell us, Wuming. Do assassins go on killing dates?"

Wuming rolled his eyes at his chuckling brothers. "You're both crazy." He turned to Qing Chen. "I just need a go sign and this will be over. We can go back to looking for mother if that would be the thing that we would decide upon."

Qing Chen looked at Wuming. He already knew that he had to have those men killed. He nodded. "Fine. We need their communication devices. Do it nice and clean."

"Two melted bodies coming up," Wuming smiled and got up from his seat and out of the room.

"What else do we know?" Qing Chen asked Qing Lok.

He leaned back the seat. "That's pretty much it, Chen. There's not much on their agenda. They just wanted a big catch."

Qing Chen changed the subject. "What are your thoughts about looking for mother?"

"What about you?"

Qing Chen shook his head. "I asked you first. I want to know if you really want to do this."

Qing Lok's face twisted, remembering the conversation with Liu Meilien just this morning. "I think… I'll be okay just knowing where she is. We don't necessarily have to go to her if we find her."

Qing Chen have thought about this too when he was sparring with Feng Xuan. While he was sweating, all he wanted was to quit the whole operation. Why would they want to find someone who disappeared on them in the first place?

But before he fell asleep on the ring and his mind settled. There were new questions in his mind. What if she was in danger and she needed help? He had the means to help her and the tools to find her. So why not?

"Let's just make sure she's safe?" Qing Lok suggested. "She was still pretty young when she fake died. She must've found someone, started a new family, under a fake name and all that. The possibilities are endless."

"Or she could be lying dead on a ditch somewhere," Qing Chen said.

"And that too," Qing Lok sighed. "The least that we can do is try, right?"

"Okay," Qing Chen said. "Resume operations today. I'll be home by tonight."

"Another thing," Qing Lok added, looking unsure. "Would it be alright if Liu Meilien stayed with us for the meantime? I already told her everything about this anyway."

"You don't have to ask me, Lok. It's your house too."

"Well, I mean, you're dad's heir and all that. You're like the person who's in charge of things now."

Qing Chen laughed. "That doesn't include the house. Sure, you can take your girlfriend. If you want to be alone, you can just take some keys from father's room and stay in a house with her."

"Yeah, I don't think so. I think it kind of freaked her out when I asked her this morning."

"Oh!" Qing Chen exclaimed. "You want to move in with her? That's big." He shrugged. "I'm sure Feng Lizhao would not have a problem with that. But what about her mother? Are they already talking?"

"Eh."

Qing Chen felt bad for his brother. It was hard to be in a relationship with someone who was not in good terms with their family. It could be a root of a problem in the future. "You're going to be fine. You're a smart person. You'll find a way to help her if she needs it. Go home and take her with you. Stop staying in the hotel for free."

Qing Lok stood up, grinning. "Chen, you do know that you're the future of this company, right?"

Qing Chen smiled at his brother. "I'm doing my best."
