Chapter 226 - Termination Notice

Qing Chen went out the party and met the investigator that he hired to trace down everything from the Dai family.

He was handed a thick folder.

"This took longer than usual," he commented.

"It was really hard to trace, Mr. Qing. There were a lot of middle men in these operations."

Qing Chen nodded and said his thanks before walking back to the party. He was casually reading the files, flipping through the papers.

In the end, with Da Xia's car exploding, it had made Qing Chen's job easier. They were finally able to track down the person who had Mr. Dai killed. They knew it was no accident and they knew it was Mrs. Dai who did it. But they lacked the proof and now he had it.

He was just about to head to his seat when a hand grabbed his arm. He smiled. Just the person he wanted to see. "Dai Fang," he greeted. "You're late."

The other guy did not look like he was as pleased as Qing Chen. "I heard what happened to my sister."

"Brought it upon herself," he said. "You know how easy she gets swayed."

"And you let your wife sink her claws in her anyway."

Qing Chen shook his head and lightly chuckled. "Do you think I'd get in the way of women fighting? Besides, I think your sister enjoyed the small feud. Not so much now that she lost."

Dai Fang's fingers tightened on his arm. "You and I are not done."

Qing Chen glared back at him. "Let go."

It took Dai Fang a few seconds before he unclenched his hand.

"If I were you," began Qing Chen, "I would take your sister to the other end of the earth and away from your mother. No, actually, lock your mother up, in jail or a mental institution. Your choice." He breathed out. "You're the one whose name is in the last will and testament of Mr. Dai. I'll buy your shares at The Kingly Empire so you can have your money." Qing Chen pressed the folder to his chest. "Just in case you want to know what happened to your father. And consider this your termination notice."

After reading the thick file, Dai Fang immediately went home, speeding through the highways too much that he thought he would not reach their house alive. When he got home, he found her sister packing her bags.

"Where's mother?" he asked, frantically. His eyes seem to fly through every corner.

"She's changing in her room."

Upon hearing that, Dai Fang entered Da Xia's room and shoved all the clothes in huge suitcases. "What are you doing?!" she asked pulling the clothes out. "You're gonna ruin my clothes."

"We have to leave this house," he said and zipped one of the checkered ones.

"I AM leaving this house. What are you talking about?"

"No, we're going away. Away, away. You and I. We're leaving this city and we will never come back."

"What do you mean? Aren't we taking mom?"

Dai Fang shoved another armful of clothes from the closet to a suitcase. "No, we're going to leave her."

Da Xia was mad. "Why?!" she took her clothes from her brother's arms and dumped it on the bed. Dai Fang reached for it again but she pushed him away. "Get it together, Fang! What are you doing?!"

"Fang?" Their mother was at the doorway, already in her night clothes, looking confused with what was happening. "What are you talking about, Fang?"

Dai Fang got up from the floor and stepped towards his mother. He wanted to put her hands around her neck and squeeze until her lungs give up. But he could not do it. He was no murderer.

"You killed him."

"What?" his mother asked, eyebrows furrowed in annoyance. "What did you take at that party?"

"You killed father. I know it all." He took the rolled up folder from the waistband of his pants and threw it on the floor. The pictures spilled to the floor. Their father with another woman then her mother meeting up with a man, who met up with another man, and it was a continuous process. "And you even put a bomb on Da Xia's car?!"

Da Xia dropped to the edge of her bed, feeling dizzy.

"Admit it," snarled Dai Fang. "Tell her you did it!"

Her mother seemed to also explode, out of options but it. "I had to do it! I'm not the enemy here! I did what I could to keep us together. To uphold our family name."

Dai Fang shook his head. "Da Xia, finish packing. We're leaving tonight." He walked past her mother but then looked back. "You're left with nothing by the way. I own everything now. I also want you out of this house by tomorrow morning or I'll have the help call police to drag you out of here."

Mrs. Dai turned her daughter who angrily wiped at her cheek. Her eyes and lips were full of betrayal.

"Don't even," Da Xia said and turned her back to her mother. Now she got why Dai Fang was so much in a rush to get out of here. They were in the presence of a monster and this city was full of psychopaths.

Da Xia and Dai Fang left Chengshi. The Kingly Empire sold Rosa Chiaro to them and Da Xia had been able to start somewhere else.

The morning after the siblings left, Mrs. Dai was found dead in her room.

Back in the party, Feng Xuan was celebrating, no longer counting the glasses she and Qing Chen were downing by the minute. Everyone seemed to be getting too much alcohol tonight. People were dancing on the floor and the bass made her head feel like it was pulsing.

Then she saw the woman in black again. Her wild eyes scanned the place and followed the silhouette outside.

The woman turned to her. "Hello."

"Ma Min."
