Chapter 172 - Red Alert

"Did we just secure the spot on the cover page of The Society?" Feng Xuan's smile widened.

"I think you just sold it," Qing Chen answered. "I wouldn't be surprised if they would put us on the cover of their February issue."

She bit her lips. "There would be more that they would talk about."

Qing Chen was being left in the dark. Feng Xuan just kept on teasing him with all that MORE talk.

He could try guessing, but his wife seemed to be someone unpredictable. He would just have to wait for her plans to unravel.

When the red carpet was over, it was as if all the fun had been sucked away. It was the only thing she was looking forward doing anyway. When they had arrived, a lot of people greeted them and all asked about their current relationship.

One even had the nerve to ask if they were just staying together for the sake of their companies. Feng Xuan was glaring at the middle-aged man's back as he walked away with a high-end bimbo.

Qing Chen turned her face to him. "Stop with the glare."

"I'm going to snap his head off."

"Nope."

"A broken arm, then."

He shook his head. It was a great thing that the party started at 10:30 in the evening. Some were asking for it to be started around nine but he knew it would be too much. He calculated the party would last until around two in the morning.

There was a live band on the stage, singing mellow and jazz songs. Endless champagne stood tall on top of trays. Snacks were served in small bowls and plates. From time to time the sky will light up in different colors.

"It's really boring in these things," Feng Xuan said as she and Qing Chen swayed in the middle of the dance floor under the huge chandelier.

"Dramas ought to happen at these things. Hopefully we get to see one tonight," Qing Chen replied as he also found such functions dull.

The other guests were obviously enjoying sitting around with their friends and catching up. But that was for the old people. The younger ones were having too much fun at dancing and the open bar. When you were in the middle of it all, it felt like you do not really belong in this world.

"Let's go down and do something else," Feng Xuan said. "I'm feeling lucky tonight. Maybe I should throw some dice and place ch.i.p.s on the roulette."

"That sounds really fun," he answered. "But we can do that after the fireworks. Father is going to give a speech. We all need to be here. Especially for the pictures. How about a drink?" he asked her and lead her to their table as the song ended.

"Less juice more alcohol," she said. Maybe loosening up a little would let them have more fun. "I need some fresh air. Can we meet on the balcony?"

Qing Chen nodded and he made his way to the bar where Wuming was sitting with a lone glass. "Why the long face?"

"I'd rather be in hell than be here," his older brother answered. "I might go home after this drink."

"We both know you're not really going home," answered Qing Chen. "Are you going to visit her again?"

"I guess, let's just see where the car would take me."

Qing Chen picked up their drinks. "You know what, you should talk to her instead of just watching."

"That's great advice, Chen," Wuming said sarcastically. "I really haven't thought about that about a thousand times already."

Qing Chen shrugged. "I think you need a little push. Good luck."

**

Feng Xuan made her way to the balcony but felt an urge to go to the restroom again. It was all that iced tea she had been drinking all night. The pressure on her bladder was not that bad, but the time it would take to unzip this dress, she might end up with a pee-soaked gown.

It was a hassle to take off, even more to zip it back up alone. Wang Yimin was busy socializing. She had even asked Feng Xuan to tag along but she was not really in the mood to talk about business and wifely duties and having kids and all that crap.

Her purpose was already done for the night and all she wanted was to get back home and be in her nighties under the sheets with Qing Chen. She already got back with her exercises and her body was filled with so much energy she felt like she could rappel down this skyscr.a.p.er.

She needed for her heart to beat like it was going to explode. She desperately wanted to be tired.

After washing her hands, Feng Xuan was already on her way out of the glass dome and to the balcony. She perked up when she saw Qing Lok walking towards her briskly. "What's going on?" she asked his concerned face.

"Red alert."

"Are we under siege?"

"No, red alert for you."

"Why?"

Qing Lok told her and her eyebrows furrowed. She did not even felt the slightest bit swayed with what she heard. Everyone… every person was someone she could end with her bare hands.

She walked, not wanting to appear that she was in a hurry. She smiled at everyone she passed by. But her smile collapsed when she saw Qing Chen with another girl.

**

Qing Chen did not find Feng Xuan on the balcony and thought that she may have taken a short break in the bathroom and decided to wait on one of the tall tables. The candles on it were glassed, giving it a more pristine look. There were small flowers on the side and some short sparklers for later.

Qing Chen felt a hand on his shoulder and he smiled as he turned. But it was gone in an instant and was replaced with confusion.

"Da Xia?"
