Chapter 16 - Make our house OUR house

It turned out that Feng Xuan's baggages were sent to her new home as they were waiting for her by the front door when she arrived. She asked the driver to send it to their bedroom. She went to the kitchen first and found only a few things that she could make do with.

Honestly, she was not really feeling homey right not that she had seen her step-mother. Would Qing Chen be disappointed if they would just get take out? She would promise to do the groceries by tomorrow.

She fished her phone and scrolled through her contacts and didn't find his number.

Huh. She had no way of contacting her husband.

During her short stay at The Kingly Hotel, she and Wang Yimin had been able to acquire months worth of clothes. Feng Xuan looked around the other rooms and found one that had an empty closet. She rolled her baggages there and started to hanger the clothes. She had availed the hotel's laundry service during her stay.

After she was done with her clothes, Feng Xuan looked into the box of the things she took from the house. She sat herself on the dining table, thinking about an office with a personal computer she could work with.

Maybe their own personal space wouldn't hurt after all.

She was about to finish conceptualizing about her dream office when she heard the front door open. "Qing Chen?" she said.

"Yeah?"

"I'm in the kitchen."

He entered the dining area. He looked really handsome in his business suit and it made Feng Xuan smile. "What are you up to?"

Feng Xuan showed him her phone. "Do you think I can transform one of the rooms into an office? And the other, like, a walk-in closet?"

Qing Chen stepped closer and hovered from behind. Feng Xuan could smell that perfume she had smelled inside the elevator when they first met and blood started to rush to her face. "Yeah, I think that would be nice."

"Yeah, you know, make our house our house. Do you want your own office and your own closet?"

She heard Qing Chen laugh and felt the warmth coming from him leave. He went to the fridge to fetch some water. "I think so," he replied. "I mean, I don't mind having an office and a closet."

"And, by the way," she added. "I didn't get a chance to cook today. I'll do the groceries tomorrow. Would it be fine if we just order in?"

Qing Chen nodded at her. "Sure. I'll just change and I'll be right back."

Qing Chen went upstairs and changed his clothes. He had been used to being alone that when he heard Feng Xuan's voice a shock came through him. When he had gotten back to the dining area, Feng Xuan was already looking online for restaurants. They finished their order and as they wait, they plan Feng Xuan's little office and walk-in closet.

"Send me the designs, I'll email them tomorrow to my friend," Qing Chen said. "He's good with closets and offices."

"Another thing," Feng Xuan said. "I don't have your number."

Then it just hit Qing Chen that she was correct. "Right," he said and immediately shared his contact with her, including his office number. "Call me anytime."

Then the doorbell rang and he went out to pay for the food. "What else did you do today? You've been to your father's, right?"

"Yes," Feng Xuan grumbled, forking a piece of broccoli. "My step-mother couldn't wait to meet you."

"Really?" he said, amused.

"Yeah, because she'll probably want to find someone better than you for her daughter."

Qing Chen nodded. Who else was better than him? Were there other young bachelors more qualified than he was? "I'm sure she'll find someone."

"Yeah, probably someone with grandchildren."

Qing Chen grinned. "Aw, don't be so harsh with your step-sister. I'm sure she'll make a great grandma."

Feng Xuan shook her head with a smile. The rest of the dinner, they were just making plans about their house and what else would they like to add. After washing up and when they were both covered in darkness under the sheets, Feng Xuan gathered enough courage to ask for something she thought of earlier. "Do you think that… we should make plans?"

"For what?"

"You know, us hanging out?" she could feel her heart wanting out of her chest. "To…"

Feng Xuan shut her eyes to the dark. She was even to shy to say the words. It was a great thing Qing Chen just said, "Yeah. Sure. How about, we start with dinners outside, twice a week?"

Feng Xuan nodded but bit her lip. "Are you really okay with it? With us being closer?"

"It's bound to happen one day whether we like it or not," Qing Chen replied. "It's not like I'm being forced right now. You're my wife."

"Don't you think I'm in a rush?"

Qing Chen's lips spread into a smile. "A bit, honestly," he chuckled. "But, I don't really mind. I'm actually embarrassed that you're the one showing a lot more initiative in this."

Feng Xuan wanted to slap herself on the head and whispered to herself. "Tsk, tsk, tsk, Xuan. Now he thinks you're so into him."

Feng Xuan shook her head at the thought. There was no way she was into him. She only met him yesterday! That would be absurd! "I'm just…"

She was just what? She was nervous, that was what. She was nervous that she would be trapped in a marriage that she would not be happy and she would want out. Or maybe just regret that she didn't fight with her father for her freedom.

Qing Chen listened to Feng Xuan's silence, thinking about what was going on in the head of his wife. She was just what? He thought it was cute that she wanted to go out. He almost chuckled again. Feng Xuan was just so adorable.

"By the way," he said, changing the subject. "You want to plan the wedding party for the weekend?"

He heard Feng Xuan gasped and turned to face him. He turned his face to look at her. Her skin looked like milk under the moonlight and her lips looked a light plum, smiling at him. "I like white and champagne color."

Qing Chen turned his body too. He already had ideas about the wedding party earlier. "Yeah? Would you like for the party to be at the hotel? We can have the rooftop."

"How does the rooftop look like?"

Qing Chen took his phone and looked into the website of the hotel. He showed the pictures to her. "We can have the party at around three in the afternoon. That way we can witness the sunset and you can enjoy the stars at night."

He watched as Feng Xuan's lips went wider as she scrolled through the pictures. He could see the vision of what she wanted to happen already in her head.

"That would be great," Feng Xuan said and returned his phone. "I'll send you some pegs tomorrow."

He nodded at her.

"We have to make sure that we won't disappoint anyone," Feng Xuan added. "Good night, husband."

Qing Chen smiled. He guessed that was what they would be calling each other. "Good night, wife."
