Chapter 54 - Fifty Three: Darkness

Two months passed, Navaya and Johnny continued their little touch and run game they liked to play with each other. Both played it very well but it was only Johnny who seemed extremely amused by it despite the vicious death glares he always got from Navaya. The worst part was he always touched Navaya whenever Becca was around so she wouldn't have a choice but to stay still and keep a straight face.

It was his special way of torturing Navaya as it seemed he wasn't only good at painfully torturing people but his naughty hands could also do a lot of unspeakable things as well.

While Becca on the other hand kept receiving flowers and gifts from Leo with him buying anything she dared to look at for more than ten seconds whenever she went to the mall and sent it to her. It was like the guy bought any expensive jewelry he came across.

Now her apartment didn't only look like a flower shop but a jewelry store as well.

It was getting too much for her, at first, she liked the gifts but now it was just too overwhelming. And the worst part of it was she still hadn't seen Leo since their painful breakup. He just kept bombarding her with gifts without even showing himself. He was sending her presents that she didn't even need when the thing she really needed, the thing she craved was to see him.

Though it wasn't like she didn't like the frequent gifts, she did actually. It made her feel loved and cared for but she also wanted Leo to come to her holding the next set of presents she would receive.

Was that too much for a girl to ask for?

On the day of Kristina's wedding...

Becca sat in the reception hall of her sister's wedding with a half-smile on her face as she watched Kristina dancing with her groom.

The lovestruck look on Kristina's face while she danced with Liam was the first thing that baffled Becca. The love in Kristina's eyes as she still stare up at Liam looked alien to Becca but at the same time looked so beautiful. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen, next to the wedding dress Kristina wore.

Not that it was hard to believe, Kristina was in love with Liam Lee, the man who had the face and body that could turn smart women into brainless lovesick girls. He had majestic brown eyes that could pierce through you with its kindness before its perils. Powerful and utterly male but could be a nutcase when he wanted to.

Liam was just as lovesick as Kristina was, the look in his eyes and the way he held her in his arms proved it. It was like they were waiting for the event to be over so they could rip the clothes off each other.

Wasn't that what everyone really wanted? To love and be loved by someone like that.

Becca still couldn't believe her sister had just gotten married in front of her eyes. It was a little hard to believe, especially with Kristina's immature childish behavior. To Becca, she felt like it happened too fast, like Liam hadn't gotten married to a grown woman but a child.

Deep down Becca felt Kristina wasn't mature enough for marriage despite her being twenty-six years old and an established model/ actress/ businesswoman.

Kristina Ramus wasn't just a big name in America but around the globe as well, making her one of the highest-paid people in showbiz and the face of many top company's brands.

Her angelic face and immaculate beauty made Kristina the most sort out person for endorsing beauty products. But unlike Kristina, Becca didn't like cameras in her face. She was just as beautiful as her sister and had a body that would be perfect for modeling but it wasn't her thing.

Becca wanted to make money, big ass money in fact but in a way she would be comfortable doing it, and tons of cameras recording everything she did made her very uncomfortable.

The wedding was just as grand and lavish as Regina wanted it to be. The reception hall flooded with Stinky rich looking people, most of them were acquaintances of the family of the bride and groom, relatives, business associates while the rest were Kristina's diehard fans. Everyone there was dressed in glamorous dressed and expensive tuxedos that it was hard to tell who was richer than the other.

The first dance from the wedded couple ended, giving way to the other guests to step onto the dance floor while Becca sat on her seat watching the guests as they had fun while twirling the wine in her glass. She glanced at Navaya and saw her having a conversation with Johnny. The next thing she saw was Johnny grabbing Navaya's hand and pulling her to the dance floor.

The fuck?!

Becca saw Johnny wrap his arms around Navaya and pull her so close to him that their bodies touched. Blinking at the scene, Becca shook her head and chose to ignore it.

Perhaps it was a trick of the light.

Becca was about to go back to focusing on her wine and the slice of chocolate cake she was devouring when she felt the presence of someone behind her.

Thinking it was just a random guest behind her, Becca ignored the hot gazes being sent by the mysterious person that had been watching her for a while now.

" May I have this dance, Becca?" The man's deep voice sounded in Becca's ears before feeling a touch on her shoulder.

What in the actual fuck?

First of all, creepy much. Who the hell walks up to a woman and touches her on the shoulder just like that?

The touch made Becca tense up and made her incredibly uncomfortable and since Becca wore an off-shoulder dress, she easily felt the warmth of the man's hand on her skin despite him only brushing her lightly.

His voice didn't sound familiar and thinking it was just an annoying stranger that wanted to make a pass on her, Becca turned to smack the living daylights out of the guy but froze when she saw who it was.

" Kyle!" Becca threw herself in the man's embrace, smiling brightly and feeling ecstatic that her other best friend from college who she hasn't seen for two years was right in front of her.

" How are you?" The man named Kyle asked, still hugging Becca tightly.

" I'm great," Becca answered and broke the hug. Then something clicked in her head and she began to stare at Kyle with her brows furrowed in confusion. " Where is your British accent?"

The Kyle she knew was British and had a thick accent but the man in front of her didn't. He even sounded American.

Kyle chuckled before pinching her on the cheek. " You mean this accent." He instantly switched back to his original British accent, making Becca giggle.

" How did you learn how to do that?" Becca asked, still giggling and her eyes forming beautiful crescent moons.

" It's what a career in showbiz taught me." Kyle gave a charming smile, gesturing Becca to take back her seat and sat on the chair next to her where they continued catching up on things that happened when they were apart.

As they continued with their friendly conversation, unknowingly to them, there was a pair of dark blue jealous eyes staring their way with gazes hotter than molten lava.

After talking and laughing for a while, Kyle excused himself to speak to some people who had been waiting to have a word with him. Once he stood up from his chair and walked away, Becca's eyes started roaming about as they always did. Her eyes surveyed the area like high-tech security cameras looking for something, but in this case she was looking for someone.

With every gift Leo sent, it only made Becca wanted to see him even more. It only made her miss him more. It only made her want him even more. Every gift always came with a note that either had a short phrase or single sentence on it and that was the only way Leo had been communicating with her for the past two months.

Becca knew Leo and Johnny were close friends which meant there was a big probably of him showing up there. Becca had high hopes of seeing him there but with the amount of people that attended and the fact that he was a very busy man only made the chances slim. Despite the negative factors, Becca chose not to give up.

'He had to be here, right? He wouldn't miss his Kristina's wedding, Johnny would have probably invited him, right?' Questions run rampant like headless chickens in Becca's mind as she took another sip from her glass, her eyes still working like surveillance cameras.

She took out her phone to check what the time was and sighed. Two hours used already but still found nothing. While everyone else were enjoying themselves, Becca sat on her own feeling detached.

Even Navaya and Johnny seemed to having some fun, well if you call glaring at someone who kept looking at you like a delicious meal ready to be devoured fun, then Navaya was having a blast.

Johnny and his annoying possessive nature made sure to keep Navaya next to him all through the event, not caring who the fuck saw them. To him there was nothing to hide, his feelings for Navaya was honest and real so why should he hide it? He would have already made things official between them if Navaya wasn't so hell-bent on getting away from him and he wasn't so busy going after her.

It was like the girl never learned. No matter what she did or where she thought she could hide, he would find her and bring her back to him.

Becca took a deep breath, it had been awhile and she was sure she had already scanned through everyone in the hall but didn't find Leo.

Feeling let down and utterly disappointed, Becca was about to lose hope of ever seeing him there, when she sensed the heavy gaze on her back, so hot and piercing that could only belong to one person. Leo Kane.

Instinctively, she turned to the direction it was coming from but instead of seeing the face of the person looking at her, she only saw his back. He had gotten up to leave.

Not so fast.

Becca instantly sprang up from her seat to go after him. Following him into the night, not caring if people were looking at her or not, all she wanted to do was see him. Talk to him, to let him hold her again.

She went after him, practically running as fast as her heels would let her. She knew she couldn't be wrong, it was Leo. It had to be. The person walking away from her had the same physique as Leo, same height and even walked the same way. It just had to be him.

He was aware he was being followed but didn't turn around, he kept leading her out of the reception hall and Becca knew it but didn't care. All she wanted was to get to Leo.

He took a turn that led to an even darker hallway, his long legs allowed him wider strodes as he increased his pace and Becca, who badly wanted to gain up on him, took off her shoes to gain more speed. Afraid he would vanish, she increased her pace as well.

Becca both looked and felt like a crazy person running barefoot at such a lavish event but she didn't care. Her goal now was to see him.

Her heart and mind raced as she kept running. it was Leo, no doubt about it but if it was him, why was he still trying to escape from her?

" Leo please." She called out to him, hoping that if he heard her voice, he would stop but he didn't.

The more she ran, the darker the hallway became. Feeling out of breath, she slowed down and soon realized how dark it was there, with no one but her and —.

Becca's eyes darted around the darkness surrounding her then squeezed shut. Her heart drumming as pain, anger and panic overtook her.

Was he gone?

"Hello?" She asked the silence, feeling desperate. " Are you there?"

She waited for an answer like a fool and after a few long seconds, she realized that there was no one there, but her.

Damnit!

Becca couldn't believe she had lost him when she was so close. She tilted her head back and a cuss left her lips.

She pursed her lips as she spun around, cursing her luck. He was gone and she did even get to see his face.

Then she rolled her eyes at the heel in her hand, she had even forgotten that she took them off and bent over to put them back on.

Once she straightened her back, something warm and soft fell on her neck.

A breath.

Becca gasped and froze for what felt like an eternity.

" I missed you." He said in barely a whisper. His voice hard and strained as his hot breath kept falling on Becca's skin, making everything in her shudder as he stood behind her. Her limbs grew cold as hot tears brewed in her eyes.

" W-where were you?" She stammered, hiccuping through the tears that fell on her face that she couldn't even breathe. She missed him so much.

" Shhhh" His breath came closer and Becca felt his hands on her face, wiping the tears that fell on it. Then she felt something prickly and scruffy on her shoulders.

His bearded chin? Leo grew a beard?

The answer to her questions came when she felt the scruffy hair press gently to the side of her neck.

Suddenly, she didn't feel cold anymore but hot. The warmth from his body seeped into hers with the slightest touch. The touch she had done nothing but crave for two whole months.

He wasn't exactly touching her, just his face lightly pressed on hers. So gently like he was afraid to break her. Then the next thing she felt was his hand on her hair, touching it so causally yet so possessively. So intimate. Without hesitation, like he had the right to do so.

Like she belonged to him.

" You are so beautiful." He drawled, his hand still playing with her hair. " You are mine and I don't want anyone else touching you." He wrapped his arms around her, hugging her closer to his hard body.

" B-but no one touched me." Becca's voice came out once again as a stammer as many emotions bubbled inside her all at once.

" And I want it to stay that way. I hate sharing and definitely not planning on doing that with you." He slowly released her from his grip, the warmth on her neck now replaced with unbearable coldness. Then she heard him take a step back. " Ci vediamo, my love."

" No, wait! Please don't go." Becca instantly spun around, trying to feel for him with her hands in the darkness but got nothing. He was gone.

Again.

Even after a couple of minutes passed, Becca still stood frozen to the spot, hugging herself with her arms. Left alone with nothing but a promise.

Till we meet again, my love.

She finally broke free from Leo's spell and moved, straining her eyes in the darkness of the hallway until she found her way out and went back to the reception hall.
