Chapter 26 - Twenty Five: Joking

People in fairytales wake up to the sound of chirping birds, normal people wake up to the sound of their alarm clocks but Becca's case was different. She was blessed with the opportunity of waking up to the pain of an excruciating headache.

Her first hangover of the year, how wonderful.

Becca sat on her bed massaging her temples, feeling like her head was going to explode.

She was having the most fascinating dream where she was being kissed by a handsome stranger wearing an expensive suit and got a little upset when she woke up from it. She wanted to go back to sleep and continue from where Mr fine as hell left off but it wasn't possible. It didn't work that way.

Though it was something she knew would never happen to her in real life, it still felt nice to dream about it.

Oh well.

Back to the pressing issue at hand, her head still hurt like hell.

She blamed Navaya for all this, for introducing her to alcohol.

'It was all her fault while I was just a victim of circumstance.' So she told herself, claiming not to be the cause of her hangover.

Speaking of Navaya, she hadn't spoken to her in days and with that thought, Becca grabbed her phone from the nightstand and dialed her bestie's number. It started ringing and while waiting for Navaya to pick up, a thought popped into Becca's head.

How did she get to her room? And why was she still wearing her dress from last night?

The last thing she remembered was her standing on the balcony and the rest was blank.

Navaya picked up the phone at the last ring and when Becca saw the call had been connected, she quickly pushed the thought away. Her head hurt too damn much to be thinking about things so early in the morning.

" Hello" Becca heard Navaya's sleepy voice from the other line.

" Hey, you just woke up?" Becca asked.

" Yeah." Navaya yawned.

" Sleepyhead, you didn't even bother to call. What a friend you are."

" Check your phone again then talk to me." Navaya lazily said and Becca immediately minimized the call screen. She scrolled through her call logs and saw ten missed calls from Navaya with all of them being from midnight that morning.

" Oops... Sorry about that." Becca apologized, scratching the back of her neck.

" No problem but really, what were you doing that kept you from answering or even seeing the missed calls?" Navaya asked and even Becca couldn't help but ask herself the same question. What was she doing?

" I guess I fell asleep but then I had this weird dream where I was kissing a handsome stranger, crazy right? Anyway never mind, it must be due to all the telenovelas you make me watch." Becca said then heard Navaya gasp and squeal from the phone.

" Don't you understand what this means? This is a sign, a sign that you will soon find your prince charming." She said while giggling.

" Oh, spare me," Becca said in a tired voice, not wanting Navaya to start preaching to her about love and soulmates like she always did.

It was too early in the morning for that and her head still hurt.

" I'm serious, I see a lover in your future," Navaya prophesied and Becca rolled her eyes.

" Yeah right, the only thing I see in my future is breakfast. Goodbye." Becca said and hung up the call.

Now speaking of breakfast, there was an entire plate full of food in the kitchen with her name, and the thought of stuffing her face with food made her stomach grumble.

Becca quickly got off her bed, got changed, and wore her slippers to leave the room.

And since Becca's room was on the third floor, she had to take the stairs down to the first floor.

On Becca's way downstairs, she saw Kristina who looked all sweaty, wearing a black tracksuit and had her long blonde hair tied in a ponytail.

Kristina was sipping water from her water bottle after just returning from her morning run when she saw Becca coming down the stairs and smiled at her.

" Oh, there you are. I almost thought you eloped with the man you were kissing last night." Kristina said, causing Becca to trip, almost falling on her face if it wasn't for the railings she held on to.

" Be careful!" Kristina exclaimed, rushing to help her sister.

" What did you just say?" Becca asked, praying she misheard what her sister just said. No, she heard it wrong. There is no way it was what she thought it was.

" I said be careful," Kristina answered and Becca shook her head.

" No, before that."

" Elope," Kristina said with a sly smile. She knew what Becca was referring to but just wanted to tease her little miss innocent sister.

" Yes but a little after that," Becca said, hoping that Kristina would say something different from what she just heard.

Perhaps she woke up with an ear infection, maybe that's why she was starting to hear weird things.

The sly smile on Kristina's lips turned even more wicked as she leaned closer to Becca and whispered into her ear.

" The man you were kissing," Kristina whispered and Becca's eyes widened to the size of beach balls.

Becca's mouth fell open. She turned to look at her sister only to see a teasing smile on her face. She was smiling like she was having a great time enjoying the show of Becca having a slow mental breakdown.

" So it wasn't a dream," Becca muttered in a low voice and sat on the staircase, needing time to process what she just heard.

" Nope, it was as real as mom's ego." Kristina laughed. " What's with that face you're making? I haven't even told you the juicy part yet." Kristina added and a horrid look formed on Becca's face.

" There's more?" Becca asked in shock. Sincerely speaking she wasn't sure if her heart could take any more shocking Revelations now.

" Of course there's more," Kristina said, still grinning like a hyena.

Do hyenas even grin?

Well, whatever they do was definitely what Kristina was doing right now.

" I know who it was. The man you were kissing, I know him." Kristina said and twirled in delight.

" Who? It wasn't one of our relatives, was it?" Becca asked and Kristina made a disgusted face.

" Eww, no! Gross."

" Thank God." Becca breathed out." Then who was it?"

" If you want to know then you have to catch me first," Kristina said and started running towards the main door.

Becca sprang up to her feet, running to catch up to her sister who was much faster than she was.

How wouldn't she be? It was Kristina's athletic long legs against Becca's short ones.

They were running like children with Kristina giggling and Becca shouting at her to slow down. They went out of the house and were now running towards the ranch in the estate.

How was Becca even the younger one between the both of them?

She behaved way more mature than Kristina ever did.

" Hey Becca, why are you so slow? your short self can't catch up?" Kristina teased, still running while Becca glared at her back.

" I'm not short, you are just tall." Becca retorted. Indeed Becca's 5ft 5in height wasn't quite considered short but when compared to Kristina, who was five inches taller than her, it kinda was.

" That's what a short person would say. If I'm tall, then what would you call Johnny and Dad, huh?" Kristina asked, still laughing like a drunk hyena.

Like how wasn't she running out of breath?

" They are both long," Becca answered, panting. She stopped running, not able to go any further, and stared at Kristina who had also stopped running but not out of exhaustion. " You win, Kris. I give up, just tell me already."

" But things were just getting fun." She pouted and Becca shot her a glare. " Okay, since you asked so nicely, I will spill. Just prepare your heart."

Becca placed a hand on her chest, trying to catch her breath and calm down her fast-beating heart

" Okay, I'm ready," Becca said confidently when the truth was that she wasn't but still wanted to know anyway.

" It was Leo Kane," Kristina informed and Becca's face paled in shock, with all colors draining from it.

" Huh?" Becca was now about to faint from shock.

" Did you develop a hearing problem from shock or something?"

" You're lying, right?" Becca asked, eyes wide while Kristina raise her brow at her sister.

" Why would I even lie to you?" Kristina threw back the question at Becca who looked like she would pass out any minute now.

" Satisfaction. The satisfaction you would get from watching me have a mental break." Becca responded and Kristina just shook her head.

" True, I do love seeing you have a mental breakdown but why lie when I could just tell you the truth and still enjoy a good show." She did make a good point but Becca didn't want to believe it.

" No, tell me you're joking. This is all a joke. A prank. Where are the cameras?" Becca looked around to spot any hidden recording cameras but there were none.

Kristina pursed her lips, not wanting to respond to Becca's doubtful statements, and started looking at her nails when she saw that Becca wasn't ready to believe what she just said. Indeed, she did see what happened on the balcony and even helped Leo bring Becca to her room after she passed out. Everything was all her doing. She was the one who invited Leo and told him where to find Becca last night.

But Kristina intentionally left out the fact that she was the one who caused all this. She didn't want to tell Becca about the deal she made with Leo since it was practically her giving her little sister to him in exchange for her brother and that really wouldn't sound pleasant, would it? Being used as a means of exchange?

" Relax! It's not like you woke up naked on his bed or something, well even though that's how it would have ended if you rascals hadn't stopped." Kristina shamelessly said when she saw Becca anxiously pacing back and forth.

" How sure are you it was him anyway? There were a lot of men in black suits at the party."

" I saw him walking to the balcony when you were there then followed him in when he didn't come out after an hour. Besides no one wore a mask similar to the one he had on." Kristina explained and Becca's mind became chaotic.

' That's it, I'm dead! Social awkwardness from now on. How am I suppose to sit in the same room with him after this? And to think I just signed a contract with him. How would he look at me now? A little girl who couldn't handle alcohol in her system or a woman who kisses any random guy she sees when she's drunk? How unprofessional!' Becca thought bitterly. This wasn't supposed to happen, it was part of her plan for herself.

" I was drunk, he kissed me without my permission." Becca tried to defend herself and Kristina scoffed.

" That's your version of the story but that's not what I saw." Kristina's wide smile grew wider. " Well not with the way you passionately kissed him back. Everything about it was so erotic, like watching live porn and I even had to close my eyes at some point. So don't lie, I know you enjoyed it." Kristina teased again, while Becca just felt like dying.

' That's it, just kill me. A bullet to the head would do.' Becca said to herself and started walking away.

Kristina saw Becca walking away and went after her

" Hey wait! Where are you going?" Kristina asked, walking closer to Becca who didn't want to stop.

" To go bury myself alive. Just tell mother and dad that I killed myself to avoid dying in the future.." Becca answered, not stopping or even turning to look at her sister.
