Chapter 127 - Addition To The Mission

A few weeks passed and a new rumor spread like wildfire. During the entire week, Hecathe took in smaller missions from the guild, and at night, he went out hunting mutants illegally outside the city gates.

The man would only head out at night since LeiLei would most likely be sleeping at that time around.

Hecathe was now a member of the golden fire guild so he had a license to kill the mutants but that license only worked if he was sent out to the mutant caves with the permit of the guild. Hunting alone in the wild like this was still considered illegal for the man, however, this was the only way Hecathe could harvest some pure mutant beads.

If he were to go on a guild mission and pocket mutant beads from there, people were surely going to consider him suspicious and that was the last thing the man wanted.

Hunting in the wild was much more convenient and safer for him personally.

Ever since the rumor had started to surface, Hecathe would go out at night like this, and every now and then, he would make his presence known, making people think that he was the rumored Orgon's killer who would only appear at night.

At first, all Hecathe wanted to do was instill some fear into the minds of the people and make them aware that the rumor was true, however, he certainly didn't expect something like a man-hunt to begin.

Orgon was a public figure who was considered a hero. He was almost on the same level as the great Edler so it need not even be said that the man had a lot of fans and followers.

When these fans and followers heard the news about the real killer roaming the outskirts of the city freely at night, they started a manhunt and it was truly a bit troublesome for Hecathe who had to be extra careful now not to get caught.

At first, being careful worked but eventually, the guild also got involved in this man-hunt and Hecathe had to stop going out to hunt mutants at night.

At first glance, it could be seen that the rumors had indeed caused some chaos, but there was still no movement from the real killer, and this worried Hecathe just a bit.

Hecathe was sure that there was no mistake in his calculations and this was also one of the reasons why he couldn't help but be confused and a bit shocked when the days went by normally without any threats suddenly arising.

However, thankfully enough, Hecathe's worries didn't need to last long.

When Hecathe reached the guild and entered Kelly's office to greet the woman in the morning like he always did, he was a bit taken back to see the awful state that she was in

Kelly was usually a calm and collected person. She would always have a neutral facial expression and would also give out this professional aura that warned people not to mess with her.

"Oh my... You look like a mess," Marvin commented as he entered the room after Hecathe.

LeiLei also entered the office and her eyes widened slightly in worry as she asked, "Are you okay?"

Kelly's glaring sharp eyes snapped towards Hecathe and the man couldn't help but feel as if he had done something wrong.

The room was colder than usual and her face was also paler than usual making her almost look half dead.

"Hecathe, we have another addition to the mission," Kelly spoke and didn't sound too happy about it.

"What is it?" Hecathe asked as he tilted his head.

"He wants us to find the fake killer as well."

"..." Hecathe was left speechless as he heard this and he repeated the woman's words in his mind as he wondered why she was so disturbed about this.

This was exactly what Hecathe had wanted.

Hecathe's lips curled up in a small smile as he spoke, "That's a good thing."

Kelly was left shocked as she heard this response and her eyebrows creased together in suspicion as she looked at the man.

"Eh?" LeiLei was completely unaware of what the topic of this conversation was so it was only natural for the girl to be confused as she questioned, "What are you two talking about?"

Hecathe didn't bother answering the girl as he kept his eyes on Kelly and asked, "Why are you worrying about it? Isn't it a good thing that the client is willing to pay more?"

This additional mission clearly came with an additional charge and if the guild's profits were to be concerned, then this was certainly considered to be good news.

"And the fake killer is you!" Kelly snapped at the man, "How can you turn yourself in for this mission?! You're going to get killed!"

From the worry that could be sensed in the woman's face and words, Hecathe was sure that Kelly knew exactly what type of dangerous person they were dealing with.

Hecathe chuckled as he commented, "You shouldn't be so worried about me. Since it was my plan, I naturally have something in mind. For now, don't inform the client that the fake killer is me."

Mages were not obliged to tell the clients how they got the mission completed so it would naturally be easy for the woman to keep this a secret.

"Just what in the hell are you planning?" Kelly asked with a sigh as she rubbed her forehead in distress.

Hecathe shrugged his shoulder as he responded, "You'll know by the end of it."

It looked as if Kelly had something more to say but before the woman could say anything, Hecathe bowed his head slightly as he got ready to leave the room.

"We'll be taking our leave now. If there is any news from the client's side then contact me as soon as possible."

Kelly frowned as she heard this but didn't dare hold the man back as she nodded her head and simply let him go.

LeiLei had no idea what type of conversation she had just witnessed and she was clueless from the start to the finish, not even being able to grasp the topic of the conversation. When Hecathe got ready to leave, LeiLei also bid the woman goodbye and followed after Hecathe.

The two left the room and Marvin stayed behind for a bit.

"Miss Kelly, are you reallly not going to tell us who the client is?" Marvin asked with an indecipherable expression plastered on his face.

Kelly looked at the boy for a solid minute in silence before she eventually sighed and shook her head, "I'm afraid it's against our policies. You don't need to know who he is."

Marvin chuckled dryly as he heard that latter statement and couldn't help but find it a bit amusing as he responded, "You're wrong. It's very important for us to know who the client is. I'm sure you've realized it as well. There's no way somebody would randomly be interested in this case."

Kelly's eyes narrowed down on the boy and she tilted her head as she questioned, "Are you accusing the client or suspecting him?"

Marvin shrugged his shoulder with a smirk as he heard this and replied, "I wouldn't have suspected him if he hadn't acted this suspicious."

Kelly's frown deepened as she heard this but she didn't dare say anything more and Marvin also decided to leave it at that.

The boy nodded his head and turned to leave the room.

"These kids... Are they going to be okay...?" Kelly muttered a question to herself once she was left alone in the room.

"So you're the rumored murderer?" Marvin managed to catch up to Hecathe and LeiLei as he questioned with a chuckle.

"Why don't you announce it to the world?" Hecathe asked sarcastically.

"What are you two talking about?" LeiLei innocently asked as she looked between the two.

Hecathe shook his head lightly and patted her head as he spoke, "It doesn't concern you. You don't need to know."

LeiLei immediately frowned as she heard this and Hecathe still didn't want to tell her.

Letting Marvin know was okay but letting LeiLei know about the plan was a bit dangerous for the girl and Hecathe didn't want to put her in danger.

If she gets too interested in this case then there was a chance that she might find out Hecathe's identity as Alphius and that was going to be troublesome considering the fact that Alphius had probably killed the girl's father.

"Sir, how can you hide things from me?" LeiLei whined, "I thought we were partners!"

Hecathe almost choked on empty air as he heard this.

"I never agreed to be your partner. I'm your employer, not your partner," Hecathe stated without caring about how harsh his words were.

"Now now. Don't get into a fight over this," Marvin sighed as he got in between, "LeiLei, he doesn't even consider me his partner so it's okay. He's just that kind of a cold bully."

Hecathe, "..."
