Chapter 118 - What Would Alphius Truly Want?

After thinking about it thoroughly, Hecathe was a bit surprised to realize that he had thought too much about it.

The answer was simple. It was a bit too simple.

It was something that anyone would be able to see once they tried to imagine themselves in Alphius's shoes.

Alphius didn't want to avenge Orgon nor did he want Hecathe to avenge Alphius himself.

Rather than all that, what Alphius really wanted was revenge.

He wanted revenge against those who had wronged him.

The boy had been hated by everyone for most of his life. He thought he could trust his two friends but while one died in the hands of an ambitious bastard, the other got manipulated and turned against him.

In the end, he was left with no one by his side. Not even the mecha-suits that he created were there to save him. He was left alone to die in the hands of the friend he trusted...

If Hecathe was in his place, he would have also been driven crazy.

Avenging someone's death was something heroes would do and Hecathe was no hero. Both in this world and his own world, he was never considered as the hero. So why would Alphius summon him after knowing that he wasn't a hero that goes around doing people favors?

If Hecathe incurred a problem, instead of being worried about it, he would burn it down without even investigating it.

It wasn't like Alphius would just randomly call him without even knowing what kind of man he was. He had options and he chose to ask Hecathe for help

Why would that be?

Why would he choose Hecathe who was more of a real villain than him?

Of course, there would only be one answer to that question.

It was because the boy wasn't looking for righteousness.

He wasn't looking for someone who could bring justice to this world.

He was looking for someone who could carry out his revenge for him.

Someone who would be capable of doing something like that.

And if that was really the favor that Alphius wanted then it would make sense why Hecathe was here.

To plan a war that could destroy half of the world? It was something that Hecathe could do without even blinking an eye.

The biggest difference between avenging and taking revenge laid within the method used.

If Hecathe were to avenge his death, there would be a sense of justice in his mind, however, if he were to take revenge, such thoughts of justice could be neglected completely.

The driving factors of the two were very different. While a person was driven to avenge someone because of a sense of justice, revenge was something that only had one driving factor and it was hatred. Hatred for the one who caused harm and wanting them to feel the same pain that you went through.

By putting a killer in jail, a police officer could avenge the victim, but if it were up to the victim to take his own revenge, the killer would not be in jail but would be in hell instead.

"Hecathe, have you really thought about this?" Marvin asked with his eyebrows furrowed up in worry, "We would also be caught up in the war...!"

Hecathe chuckled dryly as he heard this and commented, "You're worried about something like that? Aren't you the hero who is supposed to be worried about the people? How can you think only about yourself at a time like this?"

Marvin pursed his lips into a thin line and shook his head as he snapped, "Stop with that hero bullsh*t already! If I was a hero then Alphius would not have been dead and I would not need to stand here having you help me avenge my father's death!"

"..."

"Who said I was a hero? I'm selfish! I've been like that since the beginning itself! Isn't that why I am in this mess?!"

Hecathe didn't know if he wanted to laugh or cry as he heard this.

It seemed that Marvin was at least self-aware.

"Now, tell me what happens when we get caught up in the war," Marvin clicked his tongue as he demanded and Hecathe was a bit surprised to see that Marvin had recovered from the shock so fast.

Marvin had just heard that Hecathe was planning a war but the boy looked to be oddly at peace with it. Only letting the news shock him for a mere few minutes.

"I have an idea," Hecathe gulped as he spoke vaguely and Marvin looked to be a bit suspicious of the man as he heard this.

Hecathe had planned to be honest with the boy in order to gain his trust, however, at the same time, the Dorgon that he was raising was something that Hecathe planned to keep as a secret.

The Dorgon was his very last escape plan.

The whole reason why he was raising a Dorgon was because he wanted to make sure that he always had a secret escape card up his sleeves.

Humans could not be trusted but animals could and this was the exact reason why Hecathe kept an animal as his last backup plan.

LeiLei already knew about the Dorgon only because she broke into his room. If it hadn't been for that, Hecathe would have surely never introduced the two to each other just like how he refused to say anything about the Dorgon to this boy.

"What plan is it? Why are you trying to keep it a secret?" Marvin asked with a frown.

Hecathe curled his lips up in a smirk as he heard this question and decided to spout nonsense, "It's someone I trust. He is the last hidden card that I have up my sleeves. If all the plans go wrong then that person becomes my sword and my shield."

"..." It seemed that Marvin had heard better nonsense than this and thought that Hecathe was bluffing.

"I'm not lying," Hecathe spoke as he blinked innocently and claimed, "I really do know someone like that."

"Hecathe... The more you talk, the more I feel like it was a mistake counting you in on this vengeance plan."

Hecathe shook his head with a scoff as he heard this and immediately retorted, "For your kind information, it's me who's letting you join my plan."

Marvin didn't bother giving a response to that as he walked ahead, leaving Hecathe behind.

"Hey! Did you just ignore me?!" Hecathe frowned as he questioned in disbelief and followed after Marvin.

"Since it's your plan, I'll believe you. If there is anything you need help with, I'll be there to assist you. In return, there is only one thing that I ask," Marvin sighed as he spoke, without even bothering to stop in his tracks.

"What is it?" Hecathe raised his eyebrows as he asked.

"The killer... You leave him to me," Marvin side-glanced back at Hecathe as he spoke and the look in his eyes made Hecathe feel a shiver run down his spine.

For a second there, Marvin's eyes glinted red and Hecathe couldn't help but recognize this odd red glint. It was the same back then as well... When Hecathe had newly entered this world in the body of the captured Alphius, there was a moment when he had seen that same red glint in the boy's eyes.

The room was dark so Hecathe was unsure whether he had seen it right or not but now that he saw it again, he was sure of it.

For some reason, whenever Marvin was dead serious or angry about something, his eyes would have a dangerously red glint in them.

Hecathe was curious to know why but he felt as if this was not the time to be asking such a question.

"You want to kill him?" Hecathe asked as he straightened his back and tilted his head ever so slightly, "Weren't you the one who said you won't be able to beat Asgarian?"

Marvin nodded his head as he heard this and turned his head back to face the front as he continued walking and spoke, "You'll be helping me of course, but the final blow... I want to be the one who gives it."

Hecathe couldn't help but let out a small dry chuckle as he heard this, "Then I'll let you have it. Don't worry, I won't steal your chance at avenging your father."

Marvin let out a small breath that almost sounded like a chuckle, but at the same time, it was certainly not a chuckle.

Marvin, "Let's hurry up. In front of Kelly... I think I know what needs to be said. If we are late, she's going to yell at us."

Hecathe nodded his head as he heard this and found it a bit funny that what the boy had said sounded like something that Hecathe would be the one to say.

"You didn't even do the job properly. What are you planning to tell her?" Hecathe questioned casually.

"I'm going to tell her that she looks ravishing today."

"..."

Flattery seemed to be the only way by which this boy communicated with women.
