Chapter 296 - Cap 274: Secret

Menma did not answer back, he just gave them a cold look before continuing to walk, not noticing that a small insect had climbed up his leg.

Kurama had decided to seize the moment and use his transformation skills to take the form of an ordinary insect. Unlike the illusion called Henge no Jutsu (Transformation Jutsu), he had undergone complete change, one of the few skills he could boast.

". . ." - the White Zetsu felt something strange, but not noticing anything strange they decided to ignore that which was bothering them.

Kurama quickly jumped off Menma's leg and went to investigate the surroundings.

Slowly, he approached the larger room, only to notice what appeared to be a huge root - "Okay, this I did not expect, although this explains a few things..."

Kurama never thought he would come across something he was so familiar with.

"Shinju... that thing shouldn't be here, although at least this explains why Akatsuki could create Zetsu through people's dead bodies" - thought Kurama with a frown.

The process of transformation to White Zetsu was simple, the Shinju surrounded the bodies of its victims with its roots and absorbed the entire chakra and exchanged it for an unknown energy that modified the body into a Zetsu.

"Ok, as far as I can see it's just a root, one that is not connected to the central body and is on its deathbed" - thought Kurama while he squinted - "If I burn that thing, then it will disappear with no way to come back... that would ease our problems a bit..."

Kurama slowly looked away and noticed how another pile of bodies were arranged next to the root - "I guess I can at least give them a decent burial..."

He quickly walked over to where the bodies were and created a clone that sent him to the root while he stored all the bodies on a scroll. When there were no more bodies, he instructed his clone to use the most powerful Fire Jutsu he had in order to incinerate the root, only to notice how easily it caught fire.

"What is this place?" - Menma asked as he looked around with a frown.

"It's not something you need to know, so just concentrate on what I'm going to tell you," said Black Zetsu with Neutrality. "I know about your dealings with Nagato and I honestly don't care in the least, but there's something I want you to know before you continue to play your games..."

". . ." - Menma was silent when he heard the words of the black entity.

"Don't try to get in the middle of my plans, outside that you can do anything you want, for all I care," said Zetsu Black coolly. "After all, whatever you are doing to try to stop the inevitable, it's just entertainment in my eyes..."

". . ." - Menma nodded weakly when he heard the latter, though he was furious inside, though there wasn't much he could do at the moment. The only thing he could do was wait for the good news of Obito's death during his confrontation with Nagato, he could even wait for better news, this being the mutual death between the two.

"Well, since we made that clear, I want you to..." - Black Zetsu was about to say something else, but his expression changed to one of terror when he felt a deep pain running through his body - "What the f.u.c.k is going on?!"

"The root! The root has been incinerated!" - exclaimed White Zetsu in terror.

"How is that possible?!" - exclaimed Black Zetsu in Fury. He was fully aware of the importance of the Root of the Shinju, after all, he had been born from it, which is why he was furious when he heard this bad news.

Menma only raised an eyebrow at the words the two halves were speaking, only to narrow his eyes when he heard about a root that was the first time he had ever known of its existence.

"I guess that root, or whatever it is, is important to the Zetsu because of the behavior of those two," Menma thought as he turned away so that the two inhuman entities wouldn't see his expression.

"Find the bastard who's responsible!" - exclaimed Black Zetsu in fury - "When you find him, I want to see him in front of me with all his limbs destroyed!"

White Zetsu only nodded before disappearing into the ground.

"What is that root you talk so much about?" - asked Menma as he feigned curiosity.

"It's something you don't need to know..." - replied Black Zetsu neutrally - "If it weren't for the fact that you were constantly being watched, you'd already be dead because you were one of the prime suspects..."

"I don't even know what you're talking about, I just found out that there was a root in this place," replied Menma with a scowl.

"That's the second reason you're still alive, your ignorance," replied Black Zetsu with neutrality, "Now leave this place, you're no longer welcome"

". . ." - Menma was silent when he heard this. He quickly left the scene, but not before giving Zetsu a neutral glance, who sincerely ignored him completely.

"I don't know who was responsible for incinerating the root of the Shinju, but there is one thing I am sure of..." - murmured Black Zetsu coldly - "First, that unknown person knows about the importance of the root, second, he is a person strong enough to be able to burn the root of an entity like the Shinju despite how weak it was because of its separation from the original body..."

That description reduced the number of culprits to only a few, the clearest suspect being none other than Obito who had disappeared for a few hours.

"But... at the same time the chances of him being Obito are low, first, because this does not benefit him in the least" - murmured Black Zetsu while frowning - "Second, because this affects our plans negatively, and in the process, it also affects the time needed for him to fulfill his stupid wishes..."

Black Zetsu again started thinking about other culprits, only to frown at the fact that he couldn't find another culprit.

"Nagato knows nothing about the Shinju, he only knows that the Gedo Mazo can devour the Bijuu to activate our plan..." - thought Black Zetsu as he began to think even more about the situation - "Konan is useless, Menma is a bug that is only useful because he learned to use the Edo Tensei that leaves Akatsuki completely outside the culprits, that would leave us only a possible culprit that is also frankly possible, if it were not for the fact that we know that he is in Kiri next to that former Mizukage... I better check..."

"Do you need something?" - asked a White Zetsu when he heard the call of his dark counterpart.

"I want you to tell me where the Kyubi is," answered Black Zetsu seriously.

"Give me a moment" - said White Zetsu, who had closed his eyes, only to open his eyes in surprise - "I haven't seen him anywhere..."

Zetsu's expression changed when he heard this. The thoughts of Kurama's possible participation in the midst of the burning of the Shinju branch resurfaced - "No... I still can't be sure it's true, not when he has no absolute knowledge of the presence of Shinju in this place..."

"Well, that solves one problem..." - thought Kurama as he resumed his scouting mission.

He quickly entered the desolate village of Amegakure, only to observe the empty streets.

The only sound of the place was the rain falling from the sky, as if they were tears of sadness for the cruel destiny that the village had suffered.

". . ." - Kurama could only sigh with regret when he saw that Akatsuki had not even shown mercy to the children.

He quickly entered one of the empty houses so that he could hide from the hordes of White Zetsu who served as a security system, only to notice how one of the homes down the road had light - "Impossible... the moment those things detect a source of life, they should attack... that means only one thing... whoever is in that house is possibly a member of Akatsuki, or at least an important part of Zetsu and Obito's plans, making them a good source of information".

Kurama narrowed his eyes when he thought that, only to decide than that would be his next goal - "When those things go a little farther, I'm going to go in that place...".
